I've been playing AION on the Chinese servers using the English patch and I can safely say, AION is not your savior, at least, not if you are like me. The graphics are amazing, but the gameplay is less than stellar. You have to grind half way to the level cap before you can even begin to PvP, and by grind, I do mean grind. There are plenty of dead levels on your way, where the best thing you can do is find a spawn and grind it out continiously.

The PVP is decent, but the fact that there isn't any bolster ability means you will die A LOT until you reach the max level, then you will most likely spend your time killing those from the other faction that are lower level than you (without ever much of a challenge).

The best thing about the game is easily the 'rifts', but they don't open in the lower levels.

The PvE that I faced was pretty standard affair, nothing exciting and as such, I won't be playing NA release.

From what I read, they are changing it somewhat for the EU/NA market, so the grind is reduced.

I don't care about grind or late PvP (though I heard that you can PvP pretty early already). It's more about content for me... With that also quests. If I have 2 quests a level and have done them at 10% already and next I have to grind my way to the next level for 2 new quests (a lot of the newer PvP games have this problem these days), then it's not my game...

Trolls should stay in WoW. That's the only MMO where you're allowed to play one :D

You cang et to 20 within a day if you push it enough, then start pvping.

There are more than enough quests to level up at least 80% of your exp to max level, now, if you decide to solo all the way, that 80% becomes a 50% in 1.0.

What do you mean with there isn't any bolster ability? Which class did you play?

If you watch The Karate Kid backwards it's about this karate champ that just kinda slowly becomes a pussy and ends up moving back to Jersey

There are several points you are not considering when playing the Chinese version.

1. Chinese "release" version is the oldest of them all. It has less patches and content than the Korean version.

2. NA and EU version will have all that "missing" content, which includes MORE quests and MORE experience per quest, i.e. LESS grind.

So, eliminating the "grind" qq and ignoring "I don't want to level fast" qq, you really got nothing to stop me from liking the game so far.

Bolster ? do you mean like "healing", true some classes have a limit to how much they can heal. All I can say is "Craft pots or food".  It's easy to figure out the other factions lvl by looking at there Gear, Skills used, and the area they are grinding in.

The best thing about the game is easily the 'rifts', but they don't open in the lower levels. Yes they do not open in the lvl1-20 (why would you want to rift in these lvls)? They do open in the other area's and stay open for quite a long time.

I've leveled a toon all the way to 43 on the 1.0 version (Chinese beta servers) without doing any pvp or grinding. Just doing quests alone so it can be done easily. You only have to grind if you want to. Otherwise just do quests.

This have to grind threads really need to stop folks. It's just not true.

A little confusion in this thread.  I believe when the OP says "bolster" they are talking about the buff you get in WAR when you enter a PvP zone.  it gives you the stats of someone near the top of that level bracket so that you can head into PvP even when you are low level without being at TOO much of a disadvantage.  they are not talking about healing.

honestly I'm glad it doesn't have bolster, the mechanic was kind of interesting in the scenarios, but the in a game where you PvP and PVE in the same area (the way i like it) the bolster buff is just bad. (like in WAR beta when you got to keep it outside of a scenario and steamrolled mobs your level)

Re-read my post again if you still have that question. And if it still does not help, then "no, it is not slow to level, but it will be faster".
