Live Blog is over, link removed and details are below! This ended up being an Q&A session for FFXIV, not a press conference. It was added at the last minute. FFXIV will be the only title discussed.
* Q: What happens to Final Fantasy XI now that we're moving to FFXIV? Are you going to phase it out or continue to publish new content for XI? How will the development team be split? * Q: What influence have games like World of WarCraft have on the development of FFXIV? * Q: Will combat be more action oriented or turn-based? * Q: FFXI has evolved a lot over the years, especially in the areas of player accessibility and the ability to solo. Will you carry over features like level sync and other features to FFXIV? * Q: Are you planning a simultaneous worldwide release or will it be released in Japan first? * Q: Will all servers be worldwide or split by territory? * Q: Will you be taking feedback from your FFXI users? * Q: Will you try to move players from XI to XIV or will they be separate communities? * Q: Are there plans to localize the game in Spanish? * Q: How can users transmit this demand? * Q: Is there any special element in the MMO genre that you will improve with this game? * Q: Why did you decide to make a new game rather than continue to evolve FFXI? * Q: Yesterday's trailer that was shown, was that running of a console or was it pre-rendered? * Q: Is that the quality you're aiming for? The scene with the Galka fighting, is that what you're aiming for? * Q: In that scene, we saw many parties and many enemies. Is this the new focus: many parties fighting many enemies? * Q: What would you like to emphasize with this game? What is different from FFXI? * Q: On the beta process, will current XI players get in? * Q: Will FFXI characters be portable to XIV in any way? * Q: If I'm new to the MMO genre, why would I choose FFXIV over other games? * Q: I've been seeing information that the title is free to play, is this true?

Good info so far.. Aimed to more casual players, new world but same races to provide familiarity, simultaneous pc and ps3 worldwide launch with cross platform worldwide servers, at least another year of FFXI content planned, no info on battle system at this time... My god man I want to smack these people and ask the questions. If they waste one more question about why they did X or something stupid instead of digging up info about the game I am going to hunt them down and force them to listen to the chocobo song until their eyes explode. |

Awesome!
A: For FFXIV, the keyword that we've been using is "The Growth and Development of the Character." We will have the same type of storytelling and high-quality graphics. We also want to expand and create new in-game systems. The player can grow & develop in a more natural way without putting too much weight on the player. We will expand the job system to make it fairly different from the one in FFXI. A: Another very important concept that takes a different direction from FFXI, for FFXIV we want to make it so the player can choose to play solo, in a party, 40 minutes, all-day... there will be content for ALL of those play styles and systems for all of those play styles. |

So think merit system from lvl 1 ... You will more than likly get points on top of your exp to use for abilities (and I'd assume the total points you can amass is less than the total points for all abilities). I'm thinking something like FFT. |

BOMBSHELL:
A: We will NOT be using PlayOnline, but friend lists will transfer over. |

And here is all the info you want to know:
11:18 It seems like this is very much about FFXIV. Please be patient as this is going to be translated from Japanese. Q: What are the ties to Final Fantasy XI, if any? XIV does not take place in Vana'deil. A: Yes. All of the knowledge and experience we gained from FFXI will be used in the development of FFXIV. At the launch, we intend to have content for solo players as well as large-scale battles. We want a wide-variety from the start. There's your beta! A: We will conduct marketing research. We're asking questions, but they are currently going through the international and Japanese press. The job system alone has always been a selling point for me with the various FF's that utilized it.

I was kinda hoping they'd have asked more about character customization at creation as well as post-creation.

There will more than likely be a huge announcement and more info at the FFXI fan-faire later this year! |

I was going to Trade In my PS3 but this game pretty much has changed my mind the most that and Final Fantasy XIII Versus(Even though no new news on it yet). Yes I could play XIV on PC but I prefered playing XI on console but was forced to switch to PC because Sony changed the PS2 model. As for the no Playonline I'm pretty shocked by that but also very satisfied with thier decision on that I would much rather launch the game and not have to click 5 things to get into the game. I for one hope they will still continue to update XI even after this one comes out I spent a lot of time on my character and it would seem like a waste. But even if they don't I will still of course get it because I love FF games. One last thing anyone know if this was Project Rapture? If so what happened to it not being anything related to FF? |

You all remember, I suppose, that beautiful and inspired saying of Our Ford's: "History is bunk." |

Misinformation, maybe? The guy who introduced the trailer at E3 seemed pretty proud that the game hadn't leaked and that it was pretty much fresh news to everybody in the room. I found the surprise of it quite impressive too, especially because it was stated so many times in interviews that the game was not going to be related to FF in any way, shape, or form. To answer your specific question about whether FFXIV is, indeed, Rapture or could there possibly be another MMO lurking in the shadows.... Well, FWIW, the wikipedia entry on XIV states that XIV=Rapture. It cites the following Gamespot blog as its source for that claim: http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6210893/final-fantasy-xiv-online-trailer-impressions Something else that seems to confirm that XIV and Rapture are the same was SE's recent release of a financial report that stated "Rapture" would eventually become their Flagship MMO title (ultimately replacing XI, or at least carrying on XI's mantle). I can't think of anything more flagship than another game that carries the title of the series forward. Still, it is a bit unnerving to imagine *another* monster MMO lurking out there in the shadows. They'd never split their talent and effort away from the golden goose that is FF, though. |

Are Chocobos back?
Rumor has it that if you get 5 kills in a row w/o dying you can call in a ChocoStrike and do massive damage to everyone in a certain area. If you get 7 kills it will open up a slot machine where you can possibly score 3-7s and gain buffs that make you to apeshit for a while ... and by rumor I mean I just made it up. |

All great news. I am glad they are taking what they learned from FFXI and bringing it over to XIV.
My only concern is what they said about the job system. This is something that made FFXI so great to me, being able to be everything with one class. I hope they bring it back in some form or another. |

The only thing that worries me is the last question. I deeply hope they stay to their Monthly subscription based model! And don't go the F2P route with a stupid RMT cash shop! It would insta kill all my interest in this game. When www met dot , they then stumbled upon Secret Society , wich happened to be a Guild , wich in turn told dot about the net . |

I've been following info on Rapture/FFXIV from as long as I can recall, and that last F2P question was a retarded waste of breath from the G4 people. Its quite stupid to assume that it would be. Final Fantasy is a AAAAAA+ series and MMORPG and the thought of it being a F2P is an insane thought! I'd be more than willing to to pay double the normal subscription fees for FFXIV...screw F2P! |
