So what did I get out of one month's worth of play?  I learned how to use 3rd party programs to cheat.  I learned many tricks to exploit the game.  I found out that the game can actually play for you while you sleep.  I have played just about any significant MMO out there (and a few insignificant ones).  But this is the first game that I hacked, macroed and exploited.  Why you ask, cause if you don't you will only tread water.

This is really a wonderfully developed game, but the devs just simply underestimated the time people sink into this games and drive to "win" at any cost.  The developers didn't fail this game, the community did. 

Game canceled - 6/1/2009.

You can't just blame it on the community, there are cheaters in all games and most devs work hard to stop them.

Avi needs to do that bloody fast also or the game will flop because everyone who is not cheating will quit.

And it is kinda sad because DF do have some interesting parts but Avi released the game early and are very slow with fixing the issues.

Well if both of the people who don't cheat quit, I bet AV will not even notice it.

The blame of cheating falls squarely on both community and developer.
If the game encourages, allows cheating, the developer is at fault.  If the community insist on cheating, even tho it does not really pay off in the game (like gold buying in games like DAoC or WoW), then the player is not very "social".
The point is, the game should be designed in a way such that obvious cheats won't work, and the few cheats if ever detected can be rolled back.  Bans, punishments are clearly announced and visibily and swiftly enforced.  Last but not least, the developer can provide venues to help the community enforce the rules, like easy reporting.
This way the game will encourage and attract the decent bunch of player, or encourage decent playstyle, while deterring the otherwise.  The community will also see the benefits of not cheating, or the high risk/cost of cheating.  Most important of all, if the game is fun, and there is continual gains thru maintain an in-game charactert, being banned is very costly, and cheaters will hesitate.
What does AV do in this regard?
(1) They designed a game open to hacks.  Client side coding is a big NO, for any first year computer design course.
(2) They seems to have little resources or code segments ready to help identifiy the cheaters.
(3) They do nothing even after the cheaters are identified, meaning even if you are caught, you walk away.  So AV is directly encouraging hacks.
(4) Added to all these, AV and their developers are trying to attract the worst kind of gamers in their game while banning anyone trying to make sense.
What we have at the end would be a community AV actively woos, who have no fear or remorse cheating all the way.  Good natured players are forced to go along with the hacks to stay competitive, or leave the game as its not fun being not competitive at all.  So if you own a ship, you need to hack your own ship and fly around, or someone will hack your ship and fly away.  You simply cannot play and be honest, as your ship will fly off.

Clearly just an attempt to receive the names of programs so you can use them yourself.

I know that I for one have left my computer on for two whole nights (got the game Saturday) running against a wall. If you do not see people doing the same in town, then you must be blind.

Darkfall has amazing potential, but much like UO, to combat macroers, they increased the amount of action needed to rank up. This makes the game simply not fun. Hopefully the grind is tone down.

Well it's a pity that your arm won't actually fall-off or otherwise i would take you on that bet. Also maybe i'm out on a limb here but it's my guess that if that could actually apply to every Darkfall player that has used this figure of speech then there would've been plenty one-armed and some no-armed Darkfall players to date.

No game allows cheating at such a grand scale.  DF is a game played as a cheater ground.  Its codes to promote hacking.

 I think in a competative environment games like DF there will always be a strong reason to macro,bot, exploit etc. It happens in al games but this factor makes DF very vunerable.. I suspect we only see the unsubtle cheaters and were only  getting the tip of the iceberg. In FPS games I have seen the rise of the crafty cheater able to subvert detection by gameplay means by occasionally losing/turning off aimbots.  the real fallback is the faith in the games inbuilt anti cheat system and the usually 3rd party companies that update it.

So in the end I blame AV for this ?. Why ?

• The arrogance of pre beta and the emphasis on testing with  bots 
• Inability/lack of funds to work with third party like punkbuster etc;
• The low key low number beta most of whom were ignored anyway some of the exploits are just facepalm... and obvious.
• The many features albeit added at a low quality and with many  bugs confuse the issue and add more exploit vectors
• Lack of valdiation of client side data in favour of performance.
• Claiming the game was ready for release many years  ago... it never has been ready for release
• Moderators who close and lock threads when they are a common issues
• No roadplan or ackowledgement of the large problems. Covering up and lieing on main website FAQ.
• QQ'ing lead developer and antgonistic relationship he has with user base and MMO peeps in general.
• Silly claims as to manually banning cheaters when what is needed is a punkbuster/VAC type system.
• Failure to address or realise cheating will be pandemic in a PVP FFA MMO where competition is widespread.

The damage is already done. DF will never be the king of PVP FFA MMO. It not a new UO. It is certainly NOT Eve. It will be surplanted by the next FFA PVP MMO. Since the demand for this type of MMO is so high and quality acceptance so low, this next game might be even worse than DF. That would be an achievement.... !

That is the lost meaning with hacks! In most other MMOs there is nothing to loose. No point in using hacks. DF is one of the few MMOs were you can actually loose a mount, ship or siegeweapon!  So the question would be: In what other MMO can you get your ship stolen in the first place?? Now this hacker cheated, but anyone else on the server can try and steal a ship you know : )

The incident in question is one awful showcase in what a idiote can do woith some hacks. Id example WoW had "stealable" ships, do you think it would happen there as well? I think so, DF is after all a newly launched game.

I think he means about ways to increase you skills afk. There are afcourse people who use 3rd party hack program, but their numbers are pretty low, less than 1% of the whole player base. So then you have other people who macro 24/7 and A LOT of people who dont do either and just play the game like the Devs meant it to be played.

Well if you read their post thoroughly (of course you didn't), they said that DF is the only MMO they've done that in. That's a perfect example of my previous paragraph... You see/hear only what suits you, ignoring everything else.

As has been stated many many many many many times before there are two kinds of hackers. (Well a lot more than two but for the current purposes two) Smart ones and dumb ones.

There is a subtle distinction you CAN see the dumb ones are hacking.

To make it short you haven't met any dumb hackers, you most certianly have met a LOT of macroers, probably a few exploiters and maybe a smart hacker or two.

You have met some cheaters like it or not.

P.S. your Yoda sig hurts people's eyes. Not that I have any hope you will get rid of it or anything......

OP you learned all those things cause you not good gamer. You did all those things cause of your inability to play the game. You want the quickiest and dirtiest way to become "ubber" instead of playing and enjoy the game. I did not the things you did and i am now approaching my 4th month of fun :)

 To the OP: you didn't WIN anything, In fact, you came out kind of looking like the opposite of a winner.

 I mean, why would anyone "cheat" at a video game? You actually win nothing, you don't become famous and people forget you when you are gone.

I guess the OP is the part of the community that failed, big time.
