Common sense ain't that common anymore.

Releasing it when it's ready is great and all, but damn, a little tidbit of information here and there would go a long way.  Maybe a dev blog/diary, or something...not asking for a daily play by play of how development is going, but a little unhyped corner of their website with a little information getting updated would be fabulous.

There's a difference between hyping a game far too early and letting out a small, steady stream of info to keep interested fans interested.

Actually the Dev Blog/Diary is a really god idea

I'm talking to Linsey Murdock today so I shall mention it as an idea

Any update on how the suggestion went or when they're planning to start releasing info? SW:TOR released a batch of photoshop mockups and a cinematic and it's the #1 anticipated game. GW2 hasn't even releasedn warrant it's own MMORPG.com page.

I think many people are right in here....Guild Wars 2 needs to not be rushed into production.  We have already seen what rushed MMO's look like: Vanguard, Age of Conan, and more recently WAR all Flops.  NC Soft is too smart for this: they know they already have a huge fanbase in Guild Wars 1 so the potential to make a lot of money is already there.  Though they have a huge dilema in the form of "Aion" but this gamer thinks not so.....why?

Explanation:  Well Guild Wars 2 will be free and thats great, that means that I can afford to atleast pay for 1 MMO maybe it will not be Aion but for some gamers maybe it will.  I guess what I'm trying to say is that Guild Wars and Aion can co-exist because you don't have to pay for both monthly just one of them.  Also I don't think that Aion was the reason for the 2010 launch of GW2  I've been playing NCsoft games since the first day that GW came into the scene.  They want this game to be massive and perfect, I truly believe they are taking there time with it, and I don't mind waiting for it, and neither should you.

I think many people underestimate the franchise of Guild Wars and it will surprise many companies and gamers....here are some finer points of the game that I love.

Huge PVE with many levels and encounters, plus the Epic dungeons are great.

Excellent PVP

Large assortment of skills: though I wish they would raise up the amount of skills you can use at once.

Can't wait for GW2

I don't think the delay of GW2 has anything to do with Aion either.  I believe ArenaNet made huge game design decision that required them to develop new technology.

I also agree that the GW franchise will have a large impact on the market.  I too would like just a bit of information here and there.

I don't agree with the idea that a larger skill bar would make the game better. More skills would mean more possibility for inbalance, and as anyone who PvP'd in the later campaigns knows that is something we don't want. :)

If you recall, the last quarter of 2008, when the beta was supposedly to begin, was the coming of the near collapse of the world economy. Going closed beta means release will come in a matter of months. I doubt very much they want to release the sequel to a HUGE financial success like Guild Wars during the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. Thus, the very vague indications of a 2010-2011 release. In the meantime they are likely honing the product with a reduced staff, ready to ramp up when the climate looks better for release. It would be foolish to release two major products (Aion + GW2) in this economic climate. The good news is the economy appears to be recovering faster than predicted. If things keep improving economically I wouldn't be shocked to see it come out early 2010 or even by Christmas this year.

They've already said themselves they have twice as many people working on GW2 then they did on GW1.

As for the christmas release this year or early 2010 release, that's being VERY optimistic. I'm expecting a late 2010 release, and that's still being optimistic.

Looks like all eyes are on Aion to make it big like it did in Korea.

If this is due to Aion release or not, it just means GW2 developers will have more time to work on their game before release.

They never gave us solid dates though other than beta previsions, they even didn't give us much information about GW2, plus you don't see it on gaming expositions yet.

It can only mean the game is still far from reaching a presentable state. Presentable is a relative idea, I could say many MMO releases weren't what I consider presentable. ANet's "presentable" idea has always been on a very high level.

Guild Wars is very popular in the west due in part because it's developed by a western studio. It would make more sense from a business stand point (imo) to keep GW a priority here rather than take a chance on an eastern MMO. Eastern MMOs tend to be less popular in the west because of the art style and game play incorporated into them.

We'll find out soon enough if the Aion gamble will pay off or not. If they see less than stellar results, they'll probably push for Anet to get the Guild Wars 2 information rolling out asap. Lot's of people believe that if Aion doesn't do so well in the west then NCsoft will probably refrain from releasing eastern MMOs in the west due to it's lack of popularity.

Aion = Failon  -- I'll take what they've alluded to in GW2 over that game any day.  :P

GW2 might be worth checking out if the have a more open world. I really don't care fore the instanced zones. Though if I have to play a game with all that instancing IMO GW beats DDO easily.

I think that GW2 will be really worth it. I also that that it will kill Aion.

My concern is not so much with if Guild Wars 2 will be good or not or with release dates,  My problem is with the fact there has been a complete lack of information regarding this game.  Now I know game devs don't like to talk, but they at least give us something.  Check the official releases and news on ArenaNet's site and NC Soft's site the last information we got from 2007.  2 years ago, we don't even know if they have started working on the game yet.  Fine, take there time, build a good game; but don't neglect the fans, give us something to wet our appetite.  Two years and still no news, and with the first book scheduled to be released early next year and two more to follow it, it sounds like at least another year before the game beta.  That's a long time to keep us in the dark.

I think the main reason that there has not been too much information released on GW2 is because of Aions coming release. For the most part Arenanet listens to their audience and seems to understand their mentality much more than some other developers who try to ram their opinions down the throats of the majority. Guild wars 1 has such a strong following and that will carry over to the eventual launch of GW2 enough to make it a success almost on initial box sales alone. However, Aion is a relatively unsure product. It needs to be marketed in order to make sure it does well and does not fall apart before everyones initial free month is up. That being said releaseing information will only divert attention away from Aion, too much of this will risk people sweeping it under the rug in anticipation of GW2. I feel that there is already enough information ready on GW2 but it is being held off until after Aion is out and had a chance to develop some sort of player base.
