The wind carries with it all things forgotten. |
Okay I just started this thread to hate a little, I will admit it, but than again everyone has tried a game that has made them reconsider playing MMO's. However, as the saying goes, 'Don't hate the haters, hate the game.' ^^ So I ask, in the current bad ecomony, what game needs to close it's doors for the betterment of all the others that are worthy of some kind of praise? What games can be closed so that other more admirable games can keep their doors open? I'll start it off. Flyff: Needs to be consigned to the burning depths of hell. Luminary: Just because of the bad software package zOMG!: Because they are a bunch of sellouts who care more about ads than content. |

Star Wars Galaxies - because then the vets will finally shut up. Anarchy Online - because it's Funcom, nuff said ( although I would grant it a pardon if given to a good developer ) Age of Conan -see Anarchy Online above Darkfall- self explainatory |

None need to close. Those that can't make it will close when the owners decide they are no longer worthwhile. |

None. The more the better, even if the majority is crap; quality will shine and attract us humans like a beacon in the night. Quality releases should never have to fear and competition is what made our societies what they are today. (A.k.a. far from perfect, but way better than bending over all day digging up turnips from a swamp in some feudal system).

I know, and you have a good point. Nor am I trying to argue that these games are not worthwhile for some people. I would just rather see a bad game close than see ones that actually have worthwhile content fold up. I refer you to the thread 'Oh No!' I know nothing about these games he mentioned, but I'd just as soon see a bad game close as opposed to ones that still have a dedicated player base. |

As much as I would like to say AoC simply because I think Funcom is a disgrace to the market, I'm going to say none as well. Know the topic was more for fun than anything but if you were to look at it seriously then I also agree that the more competition there is then the more need there is for companies to stay competitive and on their toes. Besides, even AoC has it's benefit. Others can look at what Funcom did /does and use it as a blueprint to help them possibly be successful by doing the exact opposite of everything they do. |

I'm not sure I'm following your reasoning here. You assume that if a game has to close, you'd rather it be a "crappy" game than "one that deserves to keep its doors open". However, if the game is crap, it'll naturally have less subs than a "game that deserves to keep its doors open". That's how the market works - if you don't make money because you don't have a good enough product, you will have to close shop. Maybe you're suggesting that these bad games take subs away from the good ones, because inevitably, some people will find those games enjoyable. Unlike Wild West towns, though, the market is big enough for the two of them. Most people are going to choose the better product and if enough people do that, the lesser will eventually close down. No one needs to go around spreading the message that "X game should be closed down!"... it will happen on its own. If two games, one good or decent and one terrible, were put into a life or death cagematch with their quality as their only weapons, then I think this thread would make sense. But it's not just that simple, bad economy or not. |

I wish they would all shutdown and then someone might actually create something innovative and quit following the crowd. That continues to be my wish.

Oh god, you watch all the carebears prey for Darkfall to die. This should be a giggle. _________ |

You are playing the MMORPG genre, they will all be similar in way. Just like when you play a FPS, expect to have a gun in front of you while shooting at shit. There are a decent amount of MMORPGs out there that do things differently.... |

I see no benefit whatsoever to narrowing the field of available options. |

Nor do I see anything like an opinion in any of my statements, as for reason perhaps I was just hoping to draw some abuse from people who have nothing better to do, maybe I was hoping to make a thread that would gather in all the hate and save this forum from another dozen hater's threads appearing through the course of the day. MAYBE it was just a JOKE, and trying to insult me over is going way off mark because clearly you just feel like spreading a little pestilence in a sterile enviroment. MAYBE this thread is an abject failure and people should just let it die. But clearly some few people just want to beat a dead horse in the attempt to get a little more blood to squirt out. |
