Not to sound stupid or anything so please correct me on anything that doesnt sound right.
Seeming the WoW community is bad and the many people droping away coming back time and time again im thinking their just might be an mmo that will kill of WoW,could it be LOTR?It is growing in popularity but i have yet to try its free trial to give it a go myself.Yet my computer isnt as up for the latest games as it used to be and needs some upgrades eg.video card is starting to give out on me.
Please post your opnions on the game i want to collect as much information as i can and if i choose ill give LOTR a try. |

A game doesn't need to kill wow to be fun. Download the trial and give the game a try. It is a fine game that offers a lot of things to do. |

Let me first say that I am not a fan of LOTRO but I am not a basher just because I dont like it. I was in the beta and subbed to it for awhile and also played WOW. I found that LOTRO scaled well to lesser systems so it should run ok depending on your system. I mean you can run WOW on a chalkboard but LOTRO should be ok on a lesser system that ran WOW ok. I think they did a good job with the engine scaling. LOTRO is a PvE focussed game with story driven content. If you like that style of mmo then you will probably like the game alot. The world is beautiful to look at and journey through, even on low to medium graphics. The crafting is probably agreed on to be better than WOW's which is pretty basic. You can have your own house in LOTRO which you can not have in WOW (if that is important to you) Also the community features in LOTRO are topnotch. From the website, fansites and ingame social aspects they have tried to help foster a since of community. With the ability to adventure in a world like middle earth there will always be something or someone interesting to see. All and all it is a very good AAA western style mmo with a growing player base. You should download the trial and give it a go. Just dont download the high rez client if your computer isnt somewhat current. Just the standard client will do for you. Good luck and happy adventuring! |

LoTRO may be better than WoW or WoW may be better than LoTRO. Depends onwhat you are looking for in a game. All opinions are subjective and no game is best for everyone. |

Both WoW and LotrO are good quality games, what you prefer depends on what you want from a game :) If WoW = The Beatles |

LotRO and WOW are two sides to the same coin, its a toss up based on which is better based on your personal preferences. Besides, everyone knows EVE's the best. |

I've played both and I much prefer LotRO. To be honest, they are very similar in lots of ways but LotRO just seems to have the edge in graphics, story and the rate at which new content is added mostly for free. One thing that is noticeable too is that the community seems to be much more mature and dare I say, even better educated. We seem to have loads of graduates in our kinship. Doctors, scientists, IT professionals etc. Not sure why that should be so unless its because people with top notch PC's that are ideal for LotRO's hi-res grapics tend to be in better paid jobs whereas shoolkids who end up with their parents hand me down PC's are stuck with WoW. That's my theory anyway? |

Thats a little harsh I think. WOW has millions apon millions of players there are going to be a large number of players that are childlike in their behavior but that is true for all games even LOTRO. I had a great mature guild when I was in WOW and I dont regret my time there. Also LOTRO scales well on lower end systems you dont need an uber machine to run it. Considering the average age for mmo players is in their 20's, players who play with hand me down computers from their parents are probably a very small number. Besides computer componants are cheap. It does not take alot of money to build a machine capable of running LOTRO at max. It isnt Crysis. |

Is it a game that you can enjoy as much as or even more then WoW? Yes. Is it a game that "will kill WoW"? No.
To give you a small example, LoTRO Europe has as many English language servers as WoW has English language RP-PVE servers (so thats not counting PVE servers, PVP servers and RP-PVP servers). No game currently available or on the horizon will kill WoW. Eventually a game yet to come might surpass it in subscription numbers, theres a pretty good chance that game won't be released in 2009 or 2010 though. Theres also a pretty good chance that game will also be developed by Blizzard. If all that matters to you is popularity in order for you to enjoy games then stick with WoW , Team Fortress 2 and the Sims. You might miss out on a lot of shining jewels though, and LoTRO is one of them. |

I would debate your points, but this is not the place for it. Besides, your complaints are more a matter of preference based on what you are looking for in a game, and EVE isn't for you. Sounds like JGE will be more your style. But same is true for the topic here, chosing LoTRO vs WOW is a matter of player preference, as both games are simialar in playstyle in many ways. but did you notice my emoticion?

Ok, first @ Papadams:
If WoW = The Beatles ^^^^^^^^^^^^ HA! Bloody brilliant.
Hmmm, LotRO versus WoW? I never got into WoW, mostly cause the art style did not appeal to me. You gotta appreciate what it has done for MMOs though. With 11+ million subs worldwide it's made MMOs part of mainstream. I have coworkers who have never played nor will likely EVER play an MMO know exactly who Leeroy Jenkins is.
Look at it this way - I don't think ANYthing will come along to "kill" WoW. Why does anything HAVE to? An mmo can still be successful without "killing" WoW. Look at Everquest, one of the forefathers of mmorpgs. WoW and EQ2 didn't kill it, as it's still alive and what? 5+ expansions at least? Sure it's had some server mergers and it never had the subs WoW has, but after 10+ years it's still alive. If WoW manages the same level of longevity, coupled with the over ten times the subscriber base, WoW will keep millions entertained for ages.
As for LotRO? I love it because I love the IP and Turbine has done such a great job of writing AROUND the Tolkien universe and keeping it interesting and compelling for the players while not raping our love of the books. That and I was never much for PvP.
Of course with that said about PvP I tried out the 10-day trial of Warhammer and enjoyed the PvP a great deal! |

I'm a huge Lotro fan , but I still would'nt say its better than WoW , no what you cant deny the huge success that WoW has been and still is .... horses for courses I suppose, but out of all the the Mmo's I reckon WoW and Lotro probably offer the best experience and value for money. ( except of course if your a Pvp fan ) . |

LOTRO and WoW are actually pretty similar. Both are essentially bog standard EQ clones. What hurts LOTRO is the lack of content, about 1/4 to 1/3 of that of WoW (in terms of quests). The community is also incredibly stuck up. People say it's so great, but I have never experienced it. People never talk to me. Quieter than the game I used to play before LOTRO (Sword of the New World), where everyone was literally AFK 95% of the time. See the official forums for proof - half the threads there (slight hyperbole, but only slight) are rants against "casual" players. http://my.lotro.com/character/landroval/galadthryth/ |

I have played both and find both kinda boring. They are both a quest grind. I think lotro has better quest text, and a more engaging story. I also think the graphics are better in Lotor. But what i find sad is wow's pvp is way better than Lotro's and that isn't saying much in my book because I don't like wow pvp. But Lotro's pvp is horrible. You have to do monster play. At lvl 10 you can log into mp from the log in screen and make a max level creep to fight against the high level player char's. But one on one you really don't stand a chance at killing a player char as a creep. And no open world pvp. Now the pvp area is quite a big zone and you just grind more quests there to skill up your creep. Though they did do a pvmp update since i left so it could be a little better I guess. I feel lotro is even more of a grind than wow because grinding mobs in lotro is almost pointless they don't give enough xp to be worth while. That is my opinion on the two games. |

I can't put my finger on it, but comparing different aspects of WoW and LOTRo, LOTRo usually comes out a winner in most aspects, however, i still find WoW more fun to play. I got bored with LOTRo pretty quick for some reason ( a couple of chars in their 20's ) I think it might have something to do with the combat. LOTRo's combat feel slow and boring while WoW's seem a bit faster to me. |

That is why wardens and RK's have 'oh crap" buttons which will clear the gambit panel for wardens and enable RKs to go from DD to neutral or heal mode to neutral. Once again this is chocolate/strawberry preferance as some will prefer WoWs simpler system other prefer LoTROSs more complicated combat. |

ah, didn't catch the tongue in cheek thing, my bad. on topic: Anyway, Graphics wise LOTR looks better, but I still to date haven't seen a game that does fluid animations as good at WoW. ![]() |

AH no more lemmings i used to love that game, you know where you have to bomb the path ways to get the lemmings to the exit safely.
And i gave the trail a go guys,i am going to have to say i am bored of the rings already. Its a pretty good game with nice graphics but it does not float my boat.
