Short, simple, and to the point.  Have been in dire need of updating gpu.  Todays day and age the vid card wars are so close it comes down to which companies hardware they want to push to the limit.  Googled Aion/ati/nVidia but not much came up.  Anyone know which Aion will maximize performance on?

They should both perform just fine.

Either one is fine. I would wait until close to release date before getting a new card if you can. They leap frog over themselves all the time and there will be better ones out at the end of the year and cheaper prices for the current models. g/l

The new cards on the market today will destroy this game. I have an old 8800gts and it runs aion on max (no bloom) just fine (avg 100 FPS).

2 x 9800 GTX's decimates it

MY laptop with a Ati 3650 runs it niceley also albeit not maxed or anything but still visially stunning

Either Ati or Nvidia will run it fine my reccomendation would be Ati at the moment a lot more bang for the buck with them.

There was an article somewhere that tested FPS with different graphics cards and it seemed like ATI cards were getting better frames over their nVidia counterparts. I can't seem to find the article but hopefully I can since I was planning to use that article to plan which card I was going to buy.

Actually very mediocre systems can play Aion on most eye candy maxed out, it's a very optimised game. On a 8500 gt with 2 gigs of ram and a Athlon 3200+ processor (2.1 ghz i think) i play on 1280x1024 with everything maxed out except antialiasing and it runs with 20-40 fps and that's a 300 dollars probably.  Whatever you pick you can't go wrong with this game.

Disable Catalyst AI if using ATI cards for better performance.

your standard fare benchamrks as you can see the 295 Nvidia's flagship only just beats the 4870 x2 on most things however the 295 will run you 350 quid whereas the ati can be had for around 230.

Or fob them both of and go with a single 9800 GTX or Ati 4850 which more than runs Aion fully maxed for 150 Nvidia and the Ati at just under 100

i recomend nvidia cards. they just run better with better drivers than ati. also my friend's ati card has mad heating issues even though the fan sounds like a motorbike. nvidia cards the fan sometimes needs to be tweaked for optimal performance but it's still quieter than an ati card.

my 8800 gts 512 shreds aion on full high settings.

For aion it really doesn't matter. At this time, ANY middle- high end range gfx card for either will steamroll aion. By middle I mean nvidia8800 or ati4600 series and forward in time.

But if you plan to take games to the max with games lik crysis and beyond, overall Nvidia puts out more monsters for PC gaming then ATI, even though currently my main rig is using a 4850. But you can get great cards from either, though most ATI cards are built with work/design and intensive software creation in mind, while almost every single nvidia is for gaming. I would say it would be much easier to find a "Cheap" nvidia card that will easily play aion rather than trying to find a ati that will with the price range.

Some people only talk sh!t online. I'll talk sh!t online and i'll say it to your face.

Matters quite a bit really.

I have seen screenshots and complaints about ATI users getting unplayable graphical glitches. There is a thread on this on aionsource website with some screenshots

A player in my guild has this problem as well. although strangly someon with the same card in the guild does not have the problem.

However, not heard of any problems from Nvidia cards

The only problem I have with my 8800gts Nvidia card is when I crank the bloom up to max I start to see graphic glitches around area's with water. With it off or set to 1 it works fine.
