Hello all, |

As a fellow Aussie i can vouch that battles are a little thin in our prime time but are still large. Personally i found Project Reality (a mod for Battlefield 2) did what WW2 failed to do (in my opinion) and make a realistic game (they did quite well at it) and encourage teamplay and be accessable to new players. The biggest benefit that Project Reality had was the voice chat. It is a lot easier to call out targets in a fire fight without stopping to type out a message.
Anyway aside from that little niggle (which can be overcome if you play enough and become experianced) the game is quite fun to play especially when you get to play with the advanced vehicles.
I would strongly suggest trying the trial and tagging along with an Aussie clan. Originally posted by Cyborg99 |

Yes, try the trial first, last I heard this game is going free to play so you might just be wasting money if you sub. Other than that, enjoy the low populations, spawn camping and 1999 graphic engine for your $20. |

The game is not going free. It is still the only game on my HD for more than a few montsh and it has been on since first iteration of beta in june 00. It has its faults but its depth in gameplay is bottomless. |

Originally posted by hardcase Agreed. The only reason I haven't played straight through since launch is because I rarely have the time. bigtime102, in regards to the spawn camping.... that means you need to spawn at a different location. Your position has been overrun, for God's sake.

I played back in 2006. I remember the long walks and sneaking through bushes to get back. One of my fondest memories, once I got into battle, was I was in one of the houses and an allied came storming in and I shot him. My first kill. What a rush. I also remember getting in a boat and traveling down some river and never saw a soul. I also flew a fighter and did pretty good too, but flew a little too low and got shot out of the sky by AA guns or something. I am a flight simmer, so flying was fairly easy for me. I never gave the game a chance, I guess. Have been thinking of getting back in. I played the Axis
I do own BF2, but havent played that yet.

The new patch v1.30 is said to introduce a new training basic section, as well as a Advanced training section. That will probarbly help you and the rest of us old timers as well. I am very good at failing in-game. I still have lots to learn so I think the advanced training will be good for me (or even the basic training maybe :P). |

WW2OL does something BF2 never can; -Battles have meaning. They affect the rest of the map. -Each battle over each town is a new experience. Things never play out the same in terms of terrain. -Realistically simulated tank combat. No other game can match WW2OL's attention to reality here where each piece of armor plate is individually modeled according to type and thickness, and each projectile that strikes the tank is calculated whether it can penetrate based on angle, type of round, velocity, mass; And then once inside it hits stuff inside the tank according to it's angle, which it will either damage or destroy depending on how much energy it still has left. WW2OL is the only game where you have to know more about a tank's true vulnerabilities than simply "flank it and hit from the sides instead of the front". -Realistically simulated air combat. BF2 can never come close to the fact that the air combat in WW2OL is on par with actual WW2 flight simulators, and if you've never played one then you wouldn't realize how inadaqate BF2 is for simulating them and their involvement in battle.
