Nice generalization on the MMO vet community. Did we all flock to darkfall? Because that's ALL I hear you complaining about. No we didn't. In fact a lot of the vets DON'T CARE ABOUT DARKFALL!!! I mean really, things were so much better before we had wheels.  Wheels just led to wheelbarrows which just let to putting things in the wheelbarrows and pushing them around.  And you know how women are, sheesh, it was always, "Honey, put this in your wheelbarrow and push it over there."  And wagons!  God, don't even get me started on wagons.  Because, I mean, then we just had to do all that extra messing around with oxen and donkeys and horses to pull the wagons and the wife screaming at us to clean out the stables because of the stink.

And then pretty soon we were farming and keeping livestock and working our butts off when all we really wanted to do was just go kill something and eat it.  But, oh no, take a day off for some hunting and she's all like, "You lazy, no-account layabout.  Always gallavanting around hunting with your friends and leaving me here alone with the kids to do all the work.  Mandy's husband doesn't run off hunting all the time!  Mandy's husband stays home and tends the fields and takes care of the livestock and tells her how much he appreciates her."

I have to agree to an extent.  MMO's will always be around, but I think we've hit the peak of their popularity.  I doubt there will be another mmo as big as WoW, but if there is, it will be by Blizzard again.  For the first time since UO I am not subsribed to any mmos.  I had subs to Eve, LOTRO, and AoC, but I lost all interest in playing them.  Aion looks promising, but again, it's another fantasy theemed mmo that I've already played 50 times already.

Actually yes and no. If I ever make my break in the industry I am not going for the wow numbers.  The only way to get back the hardcore crowd of old, is to to make that small niche sucessful. What alot of publishers and devs forget, is to simply  have a steady subscriber base of a couple hundred thousand. If the mmo can sustain it's self and does not give into the new audience that is ermging from the new generation of mmo players. What I mean by the new audience of players; are the ones who want everything right now.  By sustaining it self over a few years word of mouth will spread around like wildfire if the game is fun and especially if it has a good community What also hurts the game is the hype that the players protray it out to be and it fails at launch because of a large abundance of bugs or they claim to have all of these cool features and never make the launch. If the audience can see potential after launch the game already has a good start. What also is hurting the mmos are the community. I really wonder where mmos would of been if wow was never sucessful and each mmo had their share of several hundred thousand players. I bet we would see more quality games and less quanity.
