SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aventurine SA, a computer games developer located in Athens, Greece has expanded its relationship with GNi to host their groundbreaking game, Darkfall Online, in North America with a launch scheduled for release later this summer.

“We’re very happy with our results in Europe with GNi and we continue to add content to the game and rapidly grow the community. GNi’s network has proven to be very fast and robust, allowing us to deliver Darkfall Online in the best possible way to our customers. It is for these reasons as well as GNi’s commitment and dedication to the Darkfall Online franchise, that Aventurine selected GNi as our dedicated hosting partner in North America. We are confident that GNi will continue to deliver the world-class service and unparalleled network performance in North America that we have experienced in Europe,” said Zad Mehdawi, President of Aventurine SA.

“Aventurine has seen great growth in Europe and we are excited to have Darkfall Online running on GNi’s platform in both Europe and North America. Darkfall appeals to the serious PVP gamer looking for large-scale combat and, in turn, has a devoted player base that few other games can boast. We are happy to be selected by Aventurine to provide a dedicated hosting solution for Darkfall Online in North America. We know that there is significant demand for the game and we are ready to deploy servers for the upcoming launch,” said Derek Wise, Founder and CTO of GNi, Inc.

Darkfall Online Offers Highly Immersive Experience

Darkfall Online is a Massive Multiplayer Online (MMO) fantasy role-playing game featuring a fun, fast-paced, real-time combat system, massive battles, clan warfare and empire building. Darkfall combines role-playing, action, and strategic gameplay. Darkfall has been designed to create intensely realistic and highly immersive combat and a challenging, realistic environment for a more immersive experience. With full collision detection, battle lines really matter and well-aimed spell blasts will send opponents flying. Darkfall’s goal is to provide players with a fun and challenging experience through a seamless and zoneless, non-instanced, “sandbox” game world.

Game to Be Launched by July in North America

The high demand for Darkfall has made a North American server a priority with Aventurine. The company expects the North American server, US1, to launch by July 2009.

They'll need to change their web site.  To reflect whats really in game, before they launch here.

Facinating I wonder if EU1 will be completely empty by the time NA one gets off the ground?

Does anyone else find it strange that DarkFall's own site and Forum is silent on this?  (From the Devs that is).

If they truly are opening an NA server in July (less than 2 months)... wouldn't that be worthy of at least a post on their Forums from the Devs?

Nope... I think this is more likely another taste of Aventurine's own unique brand of advertising and PR spin.

I also believe that if they allow transfers from the EU-1 server... it will become a ghosttown.  Although perhaps then they could use it as a test server.

This is the first time I've seen developers so stupid that, when their game fails in the EU, they open up servers in the U.S. for a second helping of Grade AAA failure.

I, too, thought this was a really odd announcement.  There hasn't been any official word from Aventurine and players post questions about an NA server on a daily basis.  I don't really know what to make of the announcement, since the EU1 server is hardly full and, of what's there, there's a significant NA population.

Yes - Aventurine should announce something, whether it refutes or supports this claim.

if they don't allow transfers from EU to US server with the amount of changes that have been made re: leveling skills and stuff. Starting as a new player on the US server would be easier/farer than a current new starter on the EU server.

On EU a number of characters still exist that used bugs/macroing/etc to level skills quickly. Many of these have now been "plugged" but no steps were taken to "normalise" the gain where as these patches will already be in place for the US server.

Maybe they will begin to make advertisment + new homepage for DF when they have a second server? Then DF will maybe be taken for a normal MMO! (lol).

If you count what they have right now as "Released"... then it "Released" to every country... not just 50.

For instance... name a single country that DarkFall is NOT "Released" for... if we are counting their current status as "Released".

LOL, well the GNI web hosting was given to the hype like most at the time, but the site has nothing about this july thing. i bet they had planned to use them but either money or time they just went with one server. looks like it may be a poor joke.

If these news articles are true, and they appear to be true. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I'm not sure how many players have been waiting for a NA server, and how many will transfer from EU. However I really don't see a large population on the NA server. I can see total subscriptions for NA to be about maybe 15,000 like it is now on the EU. The thing is, I'm sure most, if not all the NA players right now playing will transfer their character.

So I would guess that to be about 45% of the population moving. which would be 7200 based on 16000 players would move to NA. Now lets say for argument points that the number doubles in NA to 14,400. In EU they will have left 8800 players. Since right now there does not appear to be a huge influx of new players lets just hold that number steady. So all together there will be a total of 23,200 players. While that would be an increase over all to what they currently have. Will it be enough money coming in to sustain 2 servers?

I do think this is a bad time to announce a new server though. I would think it best to fix the problems they have now, and improve the game before considering a new server.

I do wish them luck though

I'm a little cofused.

I just looked at thier official site.
It still doesn't indicate that the game has been released, and the features list is still WAY off.

The two articles about the release of a NA server both say for people to join them at thier official site.
They are effectively advertising the game through those two articles.

Is that not false advertisement.
The site doesn't say that they are features to come.
Someone reading that article would go to the official site and think that they are getting an accurate depiction of what the game offers; they would be very wrong.

It also still says it's in beta, and no where does it direct you to anyplace you can buy the game or get an account.
Yet the president of Av makes it very clear that the game is released.  Not only does he indicate it's been released, but that they are rapidly growiing the community.  Zad Mehdawi makes some very misleading statements about the game.  They've been adding content to the game?  They've added some generic quests, and a some addition mob spawns.

What's with the line:
Game to be launched by July in North America?
It was already launched worldwide.  I'm not really sure how they can say that it's going to be launched in July.  Was it a typo, did they mean to say NA server to be launched by july.  It's as if they are implying they had a European only launch; wich isn't true.

How exactly is GNi providing unparalleled network performance when the server bugs out during those large scale battles?

I really don't get it.  People are already complaining on the official forums that there aren't enough people in the world as is.  EU1 will become a ghost town if they open a NA server.

Even if they did come out with A NA server in july I will still avoid this game until the cheating and customer service get under control. It wouldnt hurt if Tasos was gone too.

By reading forumfall I noticed they have a lose-lose situation if they really open a NA server. If they don't add transfers, they would be breaking a promise hurting part of their playerbase, losing them probably. If they allow transfers right away, the people who want a "fresh start" will not enjoy playing along with toons with maxed skills. Maybe the best option would be to allow transfers after 2-3 months after opening the server.

Not to mention the problem of an enormous evasion from EU-1 (not sure about how many people from NA are playing in EU-1 right now), leaving the players with a deserted server, devoid of PvP, the main attractive of the game. I would say it's a risky move.

But it's weird how they have not announced the news yet even in the news forum.
