I just started EQ1 and I'm enjoying it alot... just curious if I would like EQ2? what are the main differences and similiarities?
Thanks |

Other than the places, there is none.
Oh and watch out when you enter buildings. In EQ1 the mobs can and will enter buildings to chase you even if they shouldn't be able to see through walls. Its really aggravating. Oh and they don't go through the door to do it, they go through the walls. Meaning, the walls don't exist to them. The suckers will kill you even if they weren't anywhere near the house when you first entered and are currently talking to an npc when they attack. Its a big mistake in the coding that they didn't fix in the two years I played.
*blinks* Honey, I just said, the places are the only similiarities. And everyone knows the story, it was one of the selling points. One of the moons exploded sending the world into a kind of dark ages as it recovered. 500 years later you get EQ2.
The world has litterally been completely remade. |

Didn't really answer my question? would I like it, what makes them different? premis of them? |

better graphics, actually has animations for attacks and skills. you get more skills/spells. there is really no reason to play eq1 when eq2 is out unless you are playing just to remember it from back in the day.
and wayyyy more quests |

They are two completely different games, even beyond the difference in graphics. EQ has more races and classes, and the classes play differently than their EQ1 counterparts. EQ2 combat is much faster. It's generally a somewhat faster-paced game all around. Recent expansions of EQ1 have been pretty well stocked with quests and missions, but EQ2's gameplay seems more quest-centered over all. EQ2 has a more complex (better) crafting system, if you do tradeskills at all. Avatar customization is a lot more detailed in EQ2 (in terms of the graphics). I like both games. My slight preference is toward EQ1 these days, since most of the frustration has been removed, but EQ2 is a solid, fun game. It's just really different. It has a trial. You might want to check it out. ... |

My main problem with EQ1 is that it's first-person, EQ2 isn't. |

You can use your mouse scroll wheel to switch between 1st and 3rd person in EQ1. I switch back and forth, and it took me a little while to get used to how third person handles, but since my post-WoW/EQ2 days, I play in 3rd far more than 1st in EQ1. But that's a valid point, because it really isn't designed to be played that way, and sometimes I've found I really do have to scroll back "into my head". (Then again, I am a heavy on the mousing-- I also do most of my running around steering with the mouse while holding down both buttons. )
Ah, I am so torn between the two games myself. They are both good games, but very different. ... |

Two different games, although sharing the same name/IP, they cater to different crowds. Whether you'll like EQ2 over EQ1 is up to you, you should just try the trial and see if you like it. I don't believe in what the poster above said about having no reason to play EQ1 when there's EQ2. The two games are too different in terms of gameplay, you would be playing two different games if you were to try them both. Even the producer of EQ2 admitted once before that EQ2 should've been named different, because it's really a different game.
EQ2 is more quest heavy starting from lvl 1. Some players like that, as they're used to having quests lead them from zone to zone, kinda like how WoW does it. If you prefer that playstyle, I'd say EQ2 is a better choice.
EQ1 is more open, you have choices of more zones to explore and level in. You can do quests, but I myself prefer just checking out all the various zones and kill mobs to level. This style works for me, so I prefer EQ1.
It's all in the gameplay and what you like better. Hard to explain it but you should just try both games to figure out what works for you. Just don't pick a game based on what other people like better, it should be what's more fun for you. EQ1-AC1-DAOC-FFXI-L2-EQ2-WoW-DDO-GW-LoTR-VG-WAR I can't believe I'm playing EQ1 again...and having tons of fun |
