So I decided that I wanted to try to find another mmo to play. Darkfall is the only new release and I've heard some decent things about it. So heres my list of things I cant stand after I played it for 10mins. Most people will say well wait you played it for 10mins? How can you form an opinion in 10mins? Well I'll tell you how in the end.
First and foremost the game feels like a bad collaboration of a bunch of other games I've played. Skills from Ryzom, world from Vanguard, Character creation from (insert any of the numerous mmos on the market with terrible character creation), and heres the real kick in the ass that ended my want to try the game, COMBAT FROM NGE SWG. Now being the former swg player I am I'd still be playing that (PRE or Post CU) but they went ahead and ruined it with the NGE. So I'm playing Darkfall and was already leary after reading a tutorial and them mentioning how you have to aim. So I get in associate myself with the UI and run, very far, very slowly to kill my first goblin. I get there and yes the difficulty level of the game is definitely not gear to noob which is good but holy hell, I feel like I'm playing some sort of bad console action rpg. Infact it felt like I was playing the Lord Of The Rings action games for ps2. Not only do you have to aim but you have to click EVERYTIME you want to execute a base attack. Not to mention its not like 2 or 3 clicks and they're dead its like 10 to 20. This combat system feels like the exact reason I stopped playing SWG. I just find it funny that now I know where SOE ripped off the design for the NGE from, musta known someone over there at the Darkfall development thinktank.
So in conclusion, DONT BUY THIS GAME IF YOU DONT LIKE THE STAR WARS GALAXIES NGE SYSTEM LIKE IT WAS WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT. save yourself a monthly fee and go play counter strike or something. |

Yeah Darkfall looked bad from everything I saw. Saw several videos and not one of them made the game look good/fun to play. Guess you'll have to wait for SW: TOR. |

lol yeah darkfall is definatly not your game. go back and play some auto targeting games so you can feel super powerful and awesome killing easy ass mobs to collect their pelts to continue on your endless quest chain and then pvp against people which takes no skill cause you just have to click a button to execute your ultra death move unlike darkfall where you do have to aim because it takes more skill to be able to beat someone in pvp w/o a auto target system. ive played every damn mmo on the market and pvp is ridonkulously easy, click the person cast death skill/spell they die. i just recently got darkfall and pvp is a fuckin bitch! i feel like a total goon in fights because ive gone 10+ years playing easy mode |

For everyone saying darkfall requires skills and telling people to go play auto-targetting games... Darkfall requires no skill at all to play... it's a gank fest... I repeat peple that play this game and say you need skill, they just say that to make themselves feel better...
Darkfall is deatlhy hard to newbies... the only skill in darkfall is to find a group of people and pick on the single guy/girl... that's not skill lol |

but your right... darkfall is just groups of people killing 1 person *sarcasm off* |

"Oooo look at me, I'm so skillful because I know how to run back and forth and clicking to see if my weapon will run into my target" I'm sorry, the argument that "well, that game has auto-attacking, it automatically doesn't take skill lol nubs" is just silly. That's like saying an RTS doesn't take skill or strategy because all you have to do is tell your units to move to a location to do something and then they do it automatically.

Yep they stayed and fought, and died, no BUBBLEZ FOR JO! Anyway I am happy your happy playing DFO, but please dont demean games that were here before, and in some cases set the standard of whats expected in games today. You may not like them thats fine, thats your opinion. |

There are two kinds of people those who use brains and those who use their fingers. A general sends his soldiers to fight, he laid down the rules of engagement and the soldiers do it. The general does not need to target, he just need to know that his soldiers with so and so gear and training tends to hit 30% with gunshots and would end up winning or losing. A soldier does the manual shooting. He targets he shoots and never got to think beyond that. A soldier calls himself hardcore, and think that the general is carebear. Heheh good soldier, oh well, he deserve to stay as a foot soldier. |

Oh no, you cannot ask them to stop posting crap on the net. DFo is not a game played inside the game server. In the game server, they only macro afk. Nothing to do. DFo is played as a self delusionary grandise on message boards. "I play DF, I am hardcore, I am good, I win, I do this and that and never in the history of mankind have any human beings achieved so much", repeat 1million times. That is the game of DFo. If they stop praising themselves here, the game fell apart. |

Basically a clan works it's butt of getting the resources and gold to build things like walls, gates, and cannons. Then another clan comes along and bypasses all of that. The biggest aspect of the game, and you have a DFO fan here varifying that it's broken. PS: Quit comparing combat in DFO to Oblivion. DFO combat is NOTHING LIKE OBLIVIONS. |

Geez I'm so tired of hearing how DF takes oh so much skill and other games don't. Let's set the record straight: ALL GAMES REQUIRE SKILLS! It is actually possible to be GOOD at games that use auto attack, believe it or not. I've never played WoW but I'm 100% convinced that it's possible to be good at it. I have played DF and I'm equally convinced that it's possible to be a skilled DF player. The problem with combat in DF isn't a matter of it taking skill or not because it certainly does. The problem is that it's mind numbingly boring. IMHO, constant LMB bashing is almost, not exactly, but almost the same thing as auto attack. It's just tedious. It doesn't add anything whatsoever. I'm sure it's positive to create a good MMORPG with twitch style combat, but DF isn't it. |

Key and about the only consideration is, how much fun factor the game offers. Chasing a player around, admist lag, or rubber banding due to speed hacks, fanatically clicking LMB, hoping I hit him instead of my own team mate, is NOT my idea of fun. Skill is just a self delusive way of making one looks bigger in a game. A game is not a testing ground of skill, nor a selection process for university enrollment. Nor a way to choose who gets laid, paid or whatever. Its a game, period. |
