Spellborn, in my opinion, is the best MMO out there at the moment, with the most potential. Now this is coming from a semi noob to the game, I currently have a 20 Wrathguard, 20 Deathhand, 14 Adept, 13 Trickster, 8 Runemage.

Pros

Best combat system to date, real time, openers, finishers, aiming.

Mob AI is good, you are actually able to run behind a mob, and backstab it without stunning it like in most MMOs where mobs just lock on to you

Webinar, the devs have an hour every wednessday to speak with all the players willing to contribute their thoughts on what spellborn needs.

The class system is very refreshing, having each sub class very unique, it is very fun making alts.

Semi-FFA PvP, I say semi, because you can't attack anyone in your own house, which there are 5 of, but it has the FFA feel, where if you kill someone you usually have a reason for it, rather than everyone killing everyone.

Skill based, armor is cosmetic, you can add sigils, but the bonus will be about +1%dmg per sigil.

Cons

I don't like quests. This is the main way people seem to level up. I prefer killing boss mobs, and grinding dungeons/caves, and feel that the pace of that is more efficient than questing, but the general concensus is that questing is king, so not many people want to group grind, which I enjoy.

Population is kind of low. I think people need to give this game a chance. You can play for free up to level 9, and I hope after reading this you do.

Arena is in, but you can't que for it anywhere you want, so i have only gotten into 1 arena game. I don't want to sit around waiting for an arena to pop, while I could be waiting while grinding or questing.

Conclusion

I think this game is great. I love it. I just don't like questing. Every week the devs are willing to listen to what you want. I think this game has so much potential because of that. The combat system is better than any MMO I've played, the first MMO that feels like it is really real time. My biggest problem with the game is the methods of leveling up, other than that, I'm in awe over this game.I don't understand the population, honestly, right now there seems to be a height of lost MMOers without a home, looking for a game, and this game seems to honestly be the most unique MMO i've come across, yet still the population is lower than it should be. To wrap this up, if you are a MMOer looking for a home, I ask you to please give this game a try to level 9, you can try it out at http://www.tcos.com

You can queue in, and then just go on leveling ;) when your up, you get a screen with a countdown (you can turn it down or join it) so you dont really have to wait :)

great post btw ^_^

Agreed entirely - except for your dislike of questing.

There are some interesting quests in this game. Not all of them, of course - your standard fedex and many kill quests are here - but there are also some very enteraining story telling devices, which bring the world to life.

Everyone who plays and enjoys this game finds its low pop surprising. But then again, most peopel enjoying this game were surprised by its quality in the first place.

I really hope it gets the pop it deserves.

Low pop aint an chocker for a beta game. they hurried outt he game fast without any major contet, quest lines was broken so you had to grind a few levels(before not now). released demon chest that was this awsome for pvping, tho people send the keays to their alts.

Arena i a joke, the items you get aint worth the effort, still problems in fighting mechanics, balancing problems, buggs etc.

so dont kid yourself with a big promo for this game, but give it a few months and it may turn out great, but now its just smoke and mirrors.

Btw quests was the worst thing than any mmo game ive tried so far, boring, grind x pigs over and over, run from a to b. spend alot of time running for very little rewards and much wasted time.

Quest's are quests. Unless your talking about dynamic questing, which hardly any games have then you mind as well get used to it because it's never going to change. There is only so many ways to write static quests and they all have been used. The quest in this game are fine. I figure as long as you can quest to end-game level cap, then there are enough quests to please me. The game's combat is rather fun, and the whole gear doesn't make your skills is another great feature. The only things that hurt this game at the moment are:

- quest issues

- instance/dungeon issues

- low population

- class balancing and skill fixes

Two of these things can be overcomed, the last two, over time. But the first two need to be fixed so people have a reason to want to group up and continue on their journey. The game has this big feeling of single player and needs more group elements which are coming in the next two big patches. I enjoy this game though even with it's issues more than any other game out there becuase it does have it's different qualities and has a more engaging combat system then what's out there including DarkFall and D&D.

The post was my own take on the game, so I wasn't implying that quests are bad for a game, just that I don't really enjoy questing, and that I'd like other methods of leveling up to be available in the future.

Nice write-up Nofic.
I think mackdawg was replying to Abbadon, which likes to repeatly post his rather negative opinion about TCoS here.

On your leveling problem...
By own experience I know, that a good quester and a good grinder level at about the same speed. Of course knowing the right spots - similar to knowing the ways for quests - is something you need to learn. But you can start out in the Quarterstone Mines for Quarter Quartz and the Green District for AIOR to grind, which also offer quests for the (freely tradeable) resources with nice fame and item rewards. Later look out for the Hunter Camps, Wanted Quests and the other occasional kill quests.
Note though that someone combining grinding and questing in the correct way will still be the fastest of all to level, as well not missing out on some rather nice quest rewards.
The rest is to discover for yourself. ;-) And good luck finding other people to join you - they might not be as abduant as in other games, but they sure are there.
