I can't wait for this game.

Combat looks good and the graphics are nice (might need to get a new rig for this game).

will be nice to play an actual on foot Sci-fi mmo other then AO.

Graphics looked good to me. But are players suppose to move, aim and hit 1-9 on there keyboard during battles?

If they want dodging and soft targeting they should do something like TCoS did.

The main problem ER is going to run in to is that their combat system is way too contrived at its very core. They're trying way too hard to be 'different', when instituting even a remotely TPS (TR, basically) style of doing combat is already different enough. From the videos I've seen, dev comments I've read and first-hand reports I've seen from beta they must have had a crazy person design it.

 

No offense meant and they have time to change it, but they won't. I say they won't because it's part of their -design- doc. Meaning they have thought about this alot and to them it sounds like a really, really good idea and that's the system they want to use. It really does not sound like a good idea to be honest. It's not going to be much different than the way combat is done in every single MMO out there. MH clearly thinks differently since they talk about it so much like it's a big deal, but it's not.

This is what I hate... There is no innovation in the idustry anymore due to the fact pretty much everything has been done or can be related to an other game. People are taking it way to literal upon themselves to look into this.  Now the targeting system could be related to some game but it could have some sort of different mechanic that makes it different from other games. 

Simple put is we do not know how the game is different until we are actually inside the game.  I also doubt that you have got first-hand reports from inside the beta... As the only released reports are from the devs... Making your credibility in question.

 I don't think anyone of them were melee. They were just demonstrating targeting. Probably should have sauced that video up with abilities with good animations. Other than that the graphics looks solid and the targeting system looks good.

Earthrise disappointed everyone wishing for a true twitch based gameplay. A first person shooter gameplay.

For the simple minded: what they tried to sell: first person shooter in a sandbox

 

what we got? aim, click, wait "Oh, look, you aim and click, therefore its a twitch based! Our game now is filled with ACTIONZORS!"

 

Who they think they are fooling. Look at the responses to their videos people already saw through it. We already experienced games that did that and failed because of that. It wont glue anymore.

 

FOR THE WANNABE DEVS OF THE FUTURE:

GO BACK TO WORK AND ONLY COME BACK ONCE YOU MAKE A TRUE MMOFPS RPG WITH THE GAMEPLAY AS GOOD AS UNREAL TOURNAMENT, WITHOUT ANY INSTANCE. NOW GO.

I think people need to relax and wait and see until a full review of the combat system is done by an independent site. Until then we don't really know how it plays and alot changes between now (pre-beta) and launch. I think there's too many people jumping to conclusions and accusing Masthead studios of raping their pet cat.

If the combat system is similar to TR where you fire with the left mouse button as much as you like (normal attack no cooldown) then fire off specials with a 1-9 key or whatever key you have mapped (cooldown), then good. The only thing they really had nailed down in TR was the combat system in my opinion!

As for now I don't see any problem with disscussing it and making guesses on the subject, but declaring it sucks because this is how combat will be in ER is a bit silly. No-one is really certain and it's not like this is a month before release and we've seen tons of videos and reviews. I suggest we keep it to if the system is like this ...... or it looks like it might be .... until then you're simply getting your knickers in a twist over a percieved mechanic that may not exist.

And did not Koster say in the electronic bible "Let he who hath played Beta or a Demo cast the first flame!"?

All hail the Miracle Build!  It will fix everything AND cure cancer, too.

That fight looked boring and skilless. The atrocious animation can be forgiven due to the game's beta state; unfortunately I doubt the combat system will fundamentally change at this point. With combat that shitty the devs should probably drop PvP entirely, make sure the game has a ridiculous grind, and publish a localized version in Korea complete with a cash shop. That's what a lot of other MMOs with similar 'gameplay' do, but at least some of them have the dignity not to demand a monthly fee.

Work in progress.

They need to tighten up animations, decrease shot cooldown and  it should be fine.

I don't know who the genius was who decided to release combat vid this early in development.

Now I have to see a hundred threads saying ER will sux even though that looked like pre-alpha combat.

2009 my ass Earthrise wont be ready until late 2010 atleast.

That is a laughably bad video, regardless of the stage of development it's taken from. But regardless of the amusingly bad animations and bland, washed out textures (all hail the one-size-fits-all excuse of closed beta), I genuinely thought this was going to be an FPS. It isn't so it's plummeted down my watch-list.

Nahh Even I knew this wouldn't be a Fps and I read maybe two lines of text about the game prior to a couple weeks ago.

The combat is going to be similar to old AO(speed of combat), I just hope they fix up the animations and shorten cooldown timers.

Wow, and I mean wow!

At it's worst Fallen Earth's combat system is 10X better than this, plus the game actually look, play and feel like Fallout Online without the VATS system. Guns have no cool downs, but your abilities like healing do.

Earthrise on the other hand looks like a Korean version of the apocalypse with a TR slant. Without a twitch FPS based system this game fails, just like TR.

I was trying to decide between the two but that vid really cleared things up.

ER has much smoother combat now even though it still similar to old AO combat.
