If you are running any type of windows software the following tools are made by MS to  keep eye on the os.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx Process Monitor even better than the default task manager.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897437.aspx Tcpview See the ip address and domain name

And finaly the whole package

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb842062.aspx many of those tools are useful.

http://www.xnview.com/en/index.html  Screen capture and image viewer.

And this only works in XP but still helpful for tweaking XP 

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx  For Xp Tweak UI allows alot of controls but be careful with it.  And the other xp power tools lots of fun heeh
