Hi all,

I was one of the first to line up and purchase Vanguard, I think I lasted 2 weeks. I, like a lot of others was really disappointed in the game.

Recently I resubbed because I was bored with WoW, AOC and Warhammer.

So why am I staying with Vanguard now?

1) Brotherhood experience

My chief complaint around mmo's is that I want to play with my friends, not out level them. I don't want to solo in mmo's - I play mmo's to group and play with friends. Most games I can never keep at the same level as my friends - either they would be ahead of me or I would be ahead of them. So one of us would end up "redoing" content or playing with the dreaded "pick up group" (PUG).

In Vanguard you can join a Brotherhood with your friends so while you are logged off every exp you get from killing mobs or quests goes directly to your friends exp bar at the same rate. I have 2 good friends who are all at the same level as me and we love it. We get to hang with each other and not worry about who is logging in and who isn't.

2) The combat system is fresh, fun, lively and interactive.

3) Classes are extremely well done - healers actually have some oomph!

4) You can see for miles - and the game world is seamless and gorgeous.

5) The content is there. They've just added a new patch and raised the level cap to 55.

6) Extremely good community - very helpful - lots of free buffs, great grouping game.

Last year was a huge disappointment for me in mmo releases (AoC and Warhammer) were both huge let downs.

If you are looking for a good game I would really reccomend giving Vanguard another try - it has improved many times over.

Look me up ingame I'll give you some major buffage!

MMORPG Character Monuments

...When its time for your character to take a well deserved rest...

Vanguard is a solid MMO at this point. I think Vanguard is the poster child exemplifying how important the release of an MMO is for long term success

I agree.

Gave Vanguard another try in the past 2 weeks after a 2 year hiatus. Very happy I did. Could be the best pve game going right now.

Also, the population seems quite decent and I don't mean just in the trial area. The trial area is FULL of people. The pop is excellent in the main areas of the game where I currently play 2 characters arond lv 15. So far so good.

Well worth giving it another try for sure.

im not going to go all out and destroy your post but dont you think saying the vanguard combat is "Fresh, fun, lively, and interactive" is incredibly and overly generous?

Yeah, man... I could go on about how Vanguard sucks in so many ways but I would be branded as a hater and it hardly would do any good other than give people some counter-point of view. I guess it would save some time for people who will get disappointed with the trial but at the same time I believe everyone should try those games themselves. Unless they have good friends that know them and who can say that "You won't like that game, dude. Don't play it. We know you." I'm glad I have friends like that. The first time I didn't listen to them was the time when I bought Vanguard (just before the trial came out). I'll be sure to trust them in the future.

Vanguard was a awesome game, even in beta.

But my friends left for other games.. .now then are on DDO, and I am at Darkfall.  I have played the trial islands, and more, and is still a good game, but the graphics are not awesome anymore, and the world is too big for the population of the game.  Here in Darkfall theres always life in cityes, people crafting, fighting, training (macroing), etc..   Vanguard feel to me, like a empty shell devoid of life.  It needs more players to be fun.

If they did sort of a relaunch I would certainly play for a while. I've always been interested in Vanguard and even trialed it a little, but I need a nice RP community to keep me going :)

I have defended Vanguard in past and still do when they deserve it.  I remember diving into diplomacy when I first started the game, diplomacy was fun until I worked so hard to level up until extreme horrible bugs crippled me in Diplomacy.  I also worked so hard to build a large boat and get my skill up only to find that chunk lines would throw you off the boat and CTD almost everytime and this (according to my friends still playing) is still happening.  There are two things keeping me from this game.

1.Bugs and performance issues

2.Population=I don't have time to just be playihg during primetime when everyones on, I need for the world to be populated at all times, but with such low sub numbers this isn't happening.

I've said it more than once, once Old Republic launches and Guild Wars 2 and other MMO's like AION, this game will be history.  I hate SOE but I commend them for ressurecting this game after dumb ass Brad M. destroyed it.  Search Google for Sigil developer confessions of how the game was made and you begin to realize how this game ever made it out to retail stores, really it's a disheartening story.

Best PvE MMO available in my opinion.

The release of Pantheon of the Ancients has been a lot of fun.  Time to work on getting to level 55 :)

Huh, that is EQ2, VG didn't have stationscash last time I logged in. They are making 1 stations exchange server but if you just don't play on it you wont notice it.

Its basically just another WoW as far as I can tell.  Get quest, kill 5 mobs, return to NPC, world stays static, do another quest.

Character graphics and animations have the fake/synthetic look of EQ2.  Environment graphics look misplaced.

The music and general presentation are nice but the gameplay is just WoW rehash with stiff character graphics.

If a game is Fun, It's a good game.

5/23/09 11:57:43 AM#13

I had such a hardtime getting into the game tbh.

The Character models are truely terrible and animations are even worse.

The combat is extremely slow and spells look generic.

When I first try a game the Look of the game has to appeal to me so I have motivation to continue my adventure.

The running animations alone are enough for me to uninstal the game. I felt like my character was sliding across the terain.

Such a samne because I heard good things about this game I just refuse to torture myself wading through this mess of a game to get to a good feature.

Vangaurd is a lot of fun.

I bought a Cleric on the RMT website for $125.00, He is level 50 and has some good gear. I'm having a fun so far. I might buy a rogue next, not sure though.

Combat is not that great....especially ranged.  The card game....very poor explanation...all I heard was  "once you understand it , it is easy" ...well I never did.   This game has been removed from my hard drive.

Really troll? Is this the backlash from not being picked as a highschool (barely)male cheerleader? Don't bother answering I know I'm right.

Avalon they explain everything there is to know about Diplomacy step by step(which is fairly simple) maybe you're just terrible at following directions?

I'm actually enjoying my druid. Combat feels pretty much like any other MMO's spellcaster combat.

Diplomacy really isn't too hard to pick up if you read the initial instructions in the intro quests. At first, I couldn't quite grasp the concepts behind it. It took me several diplo quests before it finally "clicked" what was going on. It's a great alternative to adventuring and crafting. When you get bored with one, switch to another.

Well at least death means something here, and the game is now looking very nice, I can play at max settings, welldone to SOE on that.

I used ti play EQ2 but its so spoon fed its sickening.

WOWatized games can GTFO!

Ive played damn near all there is to play, and at VG is the best, "IMHO"

They need a re-launch or some kinda advertising run.

Not all want EZmode, some actually like to group.

Its not hardcore by any means, but its not piss easy /zzzzzzzz either.

I enjoy it, nuff said!

Heh, I've got 4% experience since the patch... too much raiding and dying.  We'll probably replace some raids with exp nights for a couple weeks and help folks get to 51.  Death is rather painful indeed.
