Hi guys, I joined because this seems to be the best place on the internet to get this suggestion :-) I am like I just said, sick of WOW! (got 3 70s and 1 80) Have had WOW account since 2005 launch. Want new MMO. I like : 1. Lots of solo/quests. Enough quests to finish game without really grouping much 2. Love Scifi but will happily take a WOW type scenario too Hate : 1. Any game that requires me to group/dungeon to advance to end game For instance, with WOW, I basically quit after I lvled to the end with the 70s and the 1 80 since there wasn't much to do at that point having finished the game. I don't have the time to group and do dungeons etc and can't possibly arrange my schedule around this stuff. I don't enjoy that anyway... Would appreciate any and all comments :D |

My situation is much like yours... currently I'm just waiting for the right release... Star Wars, Star Trek, Aion, Mortal Online, and Champions. I'm hoping that at least one of those will be worth playing. There's just nothing out there right now that does it for me. |

take a break for a while, theres a lot on the mmo horizon atm...if you like sci fi theres fallen earth or earthrise...Jumpgate evolution is coming out next month also if you like flying/action sort of games....then later on this year theres AION and Mortal Online, which i am eagerly awaiting. Fire up the XBOX or PS3 and just relax for a while. I just got back into Elder scrolls oblivion personally..... |

Hello guys, Well for starters on a suggestion you could try one or two (maybe all) of the free mmos and see what takes to your liking. If you not too tired of Adventuring in Fantasy - try the LOTRO Trail, Conan if they still have one, City of Heroes. Its pretty hard to make a suggestion, when you have be committed to one game for soo long. But don't loose heart, I am sure there will be one out there (maybe more you never know) that briong you into a community of players that will hold you interest. by the way I play Coh/CoV, AoC, LoTRO, Guild Wars, and I current ly am in the Beta for Champions, yes there are a few out there I am waiting on (doesn't take the brains of an ArchBishop to figure out which ones). Good luck in your search. |

I know it took me a while to find another MMO after I quit WoW early last year. There are a ton of choices out there, but at the moment there isn't one that meets both of your preferences that I know of. At least not yet. LotRO meets your #1 preference easily. TONS of solo quests all the way to mid 50s at least, but it obviously doesn't meet your #2 preference. LotRO has spectacular scenery, good gameplay (although combat is not as "twitchy" as WoW) and a mature and dedicated community. Housing, crafting, mounts and PVP are pretty weak, but those might not matter to you. You might also try Vanguard. From what I've read it had a horrible start, but has improved leaps and bounds since then. I recently started playing it several days ago, and it's quite impressive. The world is enormous and not instanced. Tons of quests. It has much deeper crafting than LotRO (or just about any MMO I've tried). The community from what I can tell is growing and dedicated. It's definitely a PVEers MMO. I'm not sure if you can solo through the whole thing since I only just started playing it. You might even try EVE Online. It's got a learning curve from hell, but it can be quite fun if you like sandbox, PVP MMOs. It has PVE aspects, but the game really shines in the PVP area. You can solo all you want there, or join a corp and grow that way. The game universe is insanely huge, but repetitive. You can only have so many combinations of suns, planets and space clouds after all. Anyway, those are my suggestions. Good luck in finding a new MMO! Current: None |

Had tried D&D Online, LotR, EvE- I went over to Warhammer Online when it launched. Lots of fun - lots to do. Quests, Public quests (just walk up and participate - great XP and drops), RvR (PvP zones - great XP for taking and defending keeps and objectives), Scenarios and Dungeons. 2 days ago I cancelled my WoW subcription for 1st time since starting in 2005. |

Adding to the preferences. I forgot to add, I do enjoy some solo PVP from time to time. WOW never had that in arena for instance and I really really hated that. But Wow (pardon the pun) I thought this would be AOC AOC AOC seeing that the media says it's a distant but safe #2 behind WOW. I did look at the StarTrekOnline & SWTOR websites on madeux's suggestion and I can't wait for those 2 to be released (being a long time fan of both franchises :-)) . But they both look to be far far away (hehe) since they aren't even in BETA yet :-(. Have been taking a break from MMOs since Jan BTW. Regarding the suggested ones that are around - COH - Checked out COH and looked OK but not sure, graphics look kinda choppy. Guildwars - seems to always require a group for anything interesting and is the exact opposite of what I'm looking for :-) Vanguard - looks to be really hated by all at least initially Everquest - Did the EV 2 thing once and found it to be really boring. Just a worse version of WOW. LOTRO - Leaning towards it right now but looks to be really really WOW-like? Doesn't look like a clear winner is anywhere in sight yet? :-) |

I played flyff for almost 4 yars now and it's really good hack and slash game, i like their events and th community... I'm currently playing atlantica for 5months now and still a lot to learn in the game but i can say that this turn based mmo is not just like other mmo because there's a unique features like: Free league, TOwn system, recruiting 9 mercenaries includig your main character, auto move function where players can easily go to their quest, Betting where players can bet on whos gonna win in the AI battles. and a lot more.. *** Atlantica Online***Reanemeiko*** Mycenae ('@') Oink! |

To be completely honest what you're describing in this other MMO you want to play....well....that's pretty much WoW.
There's a bagillion wow-clones out there, not like it's hard to find one. You will never find a game where 1v1's actually mean a whole lot, mostly because no game is balanced around 1v1's. If you want to play WoW in a different skin you're just going to get bored, it won't do what WoW does as good and you'll have just wasted your money and will probably end up going back. Just being honest here. Aion is pretty much what you're looking for, it's a very traditional RPG in many regards. I find it to be a lot more fun than WoW in many regards even with it not being anything much different. Unless you're wiling to jump through some very minor hoops to play on an eastern version of Aion then you'll just have to wait. LotRO is supposedly a very solid PvE experience, there isn't a whole lot of focus on PvP though. Ehhh besides that pretty much anything you're going to find that's on the market right now either isn't going to be your style or is going to be so much like WoW you'll just end up going back to it anyway. My advice: Go out and find all the free trials to anything that looks interesting to you or download some ftp's (free to play). Don't buy anything until your free trial is over, two weeks is usually enough time to make sure you aren't going to get bored of it at week three or four. Don't be afraid to try out something different, you might find that you like it. |

Decided to bite the bullet and download COH trial. Will have it in a couple hours. Will likely download LOTRO after that too. From reading the literature the one that most SOUNDS like the one I would want will likely be SW:TOR but that is likely a Xmas release if we're lucky. |

Report : The graphics on COH were ghastly. Straight out of Doom/Wolf/any other first person shooter from the 90's! Can't bring myself to play that after WOW. Will report on LOTRO and I guess AOC next. |

There is absolutely nothing in the market right now, so you will be probably disappointed. As myself looking for everything you are not looking for I can't find anything. Fantasy with group oriented content. I am actually playing 'Lotro' but definitely a quest grind game. |

Originally posted by kkhin Surprised by that, although CoH graphics are a bit dated and were intended to look comic bookish, I personally would say they are superior to WoW style graphics, which I really disliked and was convinced there must be some graphics settings I was clearly missing. Anyway different tastes, will be interesting how you consider LOTRO graphics in comparison to WoW. |

Nah COH graphics are not worth it. If you turn the sound on too you really feel like you're playing doom with the footstep sound effect etc. I have decided to go with AOC next which is a bigger download. It's almost 4 AM so I will report back tomorrow on how it goes with AOC. |

Play FFXI...its nothing like WoW, or LOTRO, or AoC, or CoH, or Guild Wars or anything even remotely close to everything else out there!
Its like nothing else, and you can beef the graphics up really nice for a 7yr old MMO, has a huge population that rivals all the previously mentioned MMOS and its not quest driven. You don't do mindless quest after mindless quest to lvl up, but they are there for reputation and there are also heavy storyline missions for each nation with personal cut-scenes! {Some are full blown CG scenes, but most are text and your character has an active roll in them} FFXI is party enforced but its still possible to solo on all jobs for awhile {mid to late 20s}, and some all the way to 75! If you want something drastically different than the normal WoW experience which most MMOs nowadays are developed as or reverting too then FFXI is what you need to play! |

Sounds like you'd perfer a single player RPG over a MMO. If you have a current generation console you could pick up various RPG titles like Fable II, Tales of Versperia, Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls IV, Eternal Sonata, etc. These all meet your requirements. I'd suggest starting with Mass Effect if you perfer the Sci-Fi theme. You can get it on the PC too if you don't have console. |

Been trying that for the past few months and 1P RPG are just not as good as they used to be too me! For one they're lonely as hell...surprisingly enough even though you play most MMOs kinda solo at times its nice to read what everyone else has to say good & bad. ...and two as far as the 360 goes, many of their better games require an HDTV to read the damn game and enjoy it. {They're still playable on SDTVs but the text is so small...anyway!} Just sold off my Star Ocean and Tales of Vesperia, and thinking about selling the 360 too; very soon, and just invest in more PC parts for the upcoming MMOs in the next 2 years! |
