Funcom has posted the May Letter from the Game Director of Age of Conan where they talk about the game's first year since launch, the Secret World, and more.

This month’s letter marks the anniversary of the game’s launch and it’s been quite a year by any estimation with more than its fair share of highs and lows. It’s kind of hard to reconcile that it has actually been a year already!

Before we get into the all important ‘come on, tell us something about the new stuff that is coming’ I thought I’d take a slight trip down memory lane on a few of the moments that have defined the Age of Conan experience for me personally.

I first heard of the project over five years ago, in the summer of 2004 when, as a freelance editor for IGN, I got to meet some of the folks from Funcom on a press tour in London. They let me in on what their next, then unannounced, project was. That project was Age of Conan, we sat in the hotel bar and talked for hours, (and incidentally was also the first time I saw a prototype demo for what would later become The Secret World!) headed out into Covent Garden and talked some more, and it was that meeting that started the conversations that would eventually lead to me being hired by Funcom later that year. There was a passion for what they did, and for the games they created evident even from those early chats, if the company hadn’t had that aspect and personality to it I doubt I’d be here writing this letter!

I'm still disappointed by this game.  No matter how many Financial reports and "New Features".  I said it before and i'll say it again,  Funcom has failed me.  I have not been back to Age of Conan since 30 days after its release.  I hear the game director from AO came over to lend support and put AoC back on track.  I've heard he's done well.  But it's like adding insult to injury when again, Funcom is over-hyping a new "Secret world" and derailing the 'Fun' outta 'Com'munication.  I was on the Hype-train to nowhere with Age of Conan.  I was all over this ride as all the newsletters were praising this game.   A lot of people were looking for another game besides World of Warcraft.  I think this title failed horribly.  Sure it looks pretty, a lot of work has been put into this game, but you get a little bugged out when in the midst of a brand new title releasing and failing over 75% of the people that bought into, you get a newsletter saying they are working on the next expansion to this fail-hit.  That's like making a car that doesn't work, and saying that we're gonna add tires to it soon.  Just didn't make good business sense.

I don't know how they do things across the big pond, but over here in the States, we have a saying over here.  Fool me once, Shame on you... Fool me twice, shame on me.  I'm not getting fooled again but this over-hyped nonsense.   I wish Funcom would just realize their mistakes, learn from them, and stop making the same mistakes again.

Fix AoC and stop touting new expansions and new MMOs.  Fix the crap you have now.  No one wants to hear of new content,e tc til you get what you've already started completed.

Cheers!

And what makes you think they did not fix the game? If you, as you said, "have not been back to Age of Conan since 30 days after its release"? Your response is so ignorant it can be used as example of thoughtless illogical "sayings just for sake of saying something".
