For me, it was definately the Wish.

Wish was "THE UO2" by many means, the beta was very much stable and 95% of the features were in and playable during the second closed beta phase. I remember having absolutely no life playing and testing this game from 9am till 11pm almost nonstop...It was only time I've let myself stoop as hyper-fanboy.

The morning I woke up and read the cancellation notice on forums is only time I've honestly been butthurt over a videogame. I had wanted a spiritual successor for UO for so long.

I agree with Gods and Heroes. I had a great time in beta. I liked the story elements with your chosen god. The classes were different and the henchmen actually worked well. Graphics were good. Great setting and time in history to pull from. Shame.

If I may add another. I think Hero's Journey is one as well. I know they say it will be released but I doubt it ever will.

I would have to say WISH and Gods and Heroes. I was a tester for both and it was a sad day to see both die off.  I have to also throw in the original Warhammer that was dark, dirty and gritty as Warhammer should have been.

Seconded. Still I'm really sad that game never saw the light. It was so great even in beta...

I was excited for WISH as well. Never got into beta though I bet it was cool. Open world, no instancing, everyone on one big server and skill based. Seems there is still a big market for that type of game..or hell that game even lol.

I don't know about being hurt by anything but I was disappointed that Tabula Rasa was being cancelled. I though atleast they could lower the monthly fee or perhaps make it f2p. I thought NCsoft purposely ran the game into the ground to make way for Aion. I say that because if they was going to cancel a game then why not cancel Dungeon Runners or Exteel, instead they chose Tabula Rasa ? Even if they didn't have the subs they wanted no way should have been cancelled.

I'd have to go with WISH also. Was exactly the game I was looking for, beta was amazing and I couldn't wait for it to go live to show all my friends how good it was. I think I actually still have the install files on a disc somewhere..

The announcement for UO2 was disappointing to me, but I only played the original for a very short period of time with a friend and didn't really get much into it, my excitement was built from everything I read and seen. Probably a different story for all the hardcore UO fans.

I personally was disappointed with the cancellation of Mythica. At the time, the graphics looked great, and the genre wasn't as stale as it is now. I doubt today I'd of been as excited about the game, but back then, I really was. And then they cancelled it out of nowhere :(

Edit: Found an old gameplay video of Mythica: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqroz9iSy3A

I see a lot of people saying this, and loved what they were trying to do, but PE simply weren't up to the task (likewise with Star Trek).

I was in beta (I forget how early) and wasn't surprised in the slightest when it was cancelled. It was very poorly coded and the combat was possibly the least responsive that I've ever enountered. The chat channels were constantly full of people expressing their dissatisfaction.

I fully expect an MMORPG to be announced soon by a more reputable company that covers classic mythology, so it's not all bad ;)

Wish Getting Axed :( Was beta tester that game had some real promise. I liked how when you crafted an item it had a random model so yyou could make 4 of the exact same sword but they would all look different. The Player models looked really good in the game. I still remember the day the game closed - the devs left hte forums open after announcing it and boy things got ugly in there very qucikly.

Uo2 and UXO getting Axed How long must we wait for UO2???????????

The (Climax) Warhammer Online Getting Axed. Game had loltastic art but the character system stuck pretty close to Warhammer Fantasy RPG - so it offered a lot more variety and individuality than the devs @ mythic could ever dream of.... The world seemed a lot more like warhammer than WAR does as well :(

by the end of the second round of closed beta (beta test2) most bugs were removed and the complaints had all but stopped. I was in from the first stage and up until it was cancelled. It was not poorly coded it was in beta ;)bugs are a part of that.

I lament all of the future MMOs that will be abandoned early, before they have a chance to mature, due to the impossibly high bar WoW has set.

The market, at least here in the West, is what - 90% WoW, 10% everything else? Every single MMO that launches from here until Blizzard closes its doors will be directly competing with WoW every minute of their life. Regardless of their setting, or target audience, or niche, or whatever other metric one can cram into this, honestly, uncomplicated and insular (despite its size, how crazy is that?) market.

There's going to be more than a few MMOs that will experience an early demise because they just won't be given a chance, because the shareholders will want another WoW, and so (and more importantly, in my opinion) will the players.

I do so hope I'm proven wrong, though.

Gods & Heroes made a classic MMO mistake; they released the game in external (Open/Closed, it doesn't matter) Beta when the game really was just past alpha. The initial feedback on the game was dreadful; I remember logging in on day 1 and finding a half-finished game. You expect to find bugs, but not completely broken functionality/engine. It was too bad as I had been thrilled about playing the game (its setting, character choices, etc), and they had some great ideas in terms of minions and such.

I wish Mythos had come to see the light of day. Made by the (in)famous team who worked on Hellgate London, this was one amazing MMORPG (using a diablo-style/Guild Wars gameplay system) that was planned to be 100% free! The game had grown over time, from a small labor of love to a game that rivaled HG:London in terms of features and skill trees. Did I mention it was supposed to be free? Unfortunately, the source code and assets were sold off/claimed by an Asian company along with Hellgate.

I miss Mythos as well. It was basic by MMO standards, but so much fun. It was at least a great way to kill time until D3 launches. Too bad the people behind Hellgate had to screw it up -_-

Any MMO that gets canceled is obviously having massive problems, so I'm glad they never make it to release.  Because if they did, we just get Dark&Light or AC2 or Darkfall.  Its like a recall.  I'd much rather the product never get to the shelves in the first place, then be recalled 6 months later once people figure out its broken.  But with a MMO you can't get your money back=)

Not exactly true, the MMO I was most disappointed about being cancelled (in this case being "put on hold") Was Imperator from Mythic, apparently this game was put on hold to work on a big name title, this title as we found out later was WAR, now I am not sastified with that out come, but what can you do.

This may just be one of those special examples, but not all MMO's are cancelled due to problems, sometimes as in this case special interests.

But I do agree to an extent that "alot" of MMO's are cancelled due to major problems, and you are right about how we are better off without them.

There are many things that go into game cancellations (mmo or not) that don't always have to do with current content not being up to par. A lot of games get cancelled during mergers/purchases of smaller companies. There are other reasons as well.
