After I quit WoW I picked up beer as a hobby, some say it wasn't the best idea, and though I am 30 lbs. heavier, I am quite happy.

However if you insist on finding a new game, I enjoyed WAR and AoC for a lil bit, and as much as I dislike SOE i find vanguard entertaining, these are just games I have really played since WoW, I am not telling you to play them or say ing they would be good for you, I don't know you so I wont make a statement like that.

I suggest When it comes to searching for a new MMO since everyone has such different taste take advantage of free trials, I mean try them all, you will eventually find something to make you happy.

WoW is like eating off one of those taco trucks, you swear you are never gonna do it again, because after the initial orgy of flavor that tickles you're taste buds is over you're left a miserable shell of a man, but eventually you start craving that deepfried golden piece of heaven wrapped up in a tortilla and well, you just can't help but to go back to that truck, you just can't help it.

Turn to the ever welcoming arms of the Lord, brother, and repent thy sins.

Or try Darkfall.

But don't bother with WAR; it doesn't have an original thought in its head that's been done well and most of the mechanics that it does copy it sort of screws up.

Huh? Like Oblivion and Morrowind failed even though the are single player? If they pull it off right it will be the best thing since the Baldurs Gate series of games when they were first introduced

Crysis ,Cod 4 style fps shooters sell very well ,the market demand will be there if they just have a well thought out and designed product.

Think of WoW as Heroin, and everything else as Weed. Sorry to tell ya but you're going to be smoking a shitload of weed before the next Heroin shipment arrives. And it's really crap weed too.

I would say if you like to try a first person view MMO, then MO might be your best bet.

If your looking for a traditional MMO with the focus towards pvp, then your best bet is Aion : www.youtube.com/swf/l.swf

atlantica online- f2p strategy MMO. its has an old school feel since the combat is turn based and you control up to 9 characters. The nice thing about this f2p mmo is although the max lvl is 120 the grind isn't that bad till around lvl 95. You can purchase anything in the cash shop from other players with in-game currency also.

battlefield heroes- still in CB but there are so many keys available so its easy to get in. The game play is fun although very repetitive since only 3 maps are available.

...those are the only 2 I play atm since I'm waiting for the next big p2p mmo and not trying to waste money on some of the garbage out there.

I laughed when i readed this, but unfortunatly it's so very true... I've tried and tried the others, but there's always something missing. Usually the gameplay, others are too slow while fighting, some the lack of immersion on the graphism, and so on, so on.

Atm i'm waiting to check out Aeon when it launches, and Guild Wars 2. I hope that one of them can be a good choice, but only trying i'll find out.

@op

i was in the same boat as you about 4-5 months ago stopped playing wow and felt a little lost.

since then ive tried lotro, aoc, final fantasy and i went back to eq2.

they are all good games in there own right and i would recommend at least giving them a go. Unfortunatley i have a download limit on my crappy internet connection and i kept going over it downloading bloody content updates for them all so at the mo im playing alot of single player games.

i missed alot of big releases when i was hooked on wow so im going back and playing alot of the games a missed due to that which could be another option. so at the mo im playing Kotor, fallout3, diablo 2, star wars empire at war and ive just ordered mass effect so i think they will keep me going till aion lands

Aye, been there too. Got WoW (after EQ2 was a failure-no solo content-group only hard to find) and wow was released. Played from 1st week release to 1mth before TBC came out. Returned around 10mths after TBC had been out and have now taken another break after purchasing WOTLK (which was a PoS).

Total about 1yr out from wow right now.

Looking for something new to replace it though. tried AoC- from the actual gameplay i have seen this has improved and not as bad as all the reports made out to be. However it still has some problems and a lack of community also didnt help. Being told for instance/group quests to drop them and dont bother with them also went against this game for me. I may give it a try once update 5.0 gets released.

Right now i have taken up lotro (14 day trial) and have ordered the game compilation after asking and being told that the 14day trial will not forfeit the initial free month to new commers (so thats good as the 14day trial did have alot of features turned off).

I will not touch any SoE tagged titles ever again, its all - how can we get more money out of our customers- so far its purchase the game (fine), purchase expansion packs (fine), monthly subscription (fine), purchase adventure packs (also known as updates to other companies, NOT GOOD) and now item malls (what with monthly subscriptions and game purchase's as well) come on SOE you greedy motherfu.... and then turn off some features like chat rooms and do as little interaction as possible. For these and many other reasons i now refuse to touch SoE titles both old and any future ones as SOE cannot be trusted anymore.

Darkfall, well i have never played this but after seeing 4 reviews (2/10, 3/10 4/10 4/10) and all the information easy to find from loads of sites, this game has to be avoided at all costs. I even have a friend who plays it, he says the graphics and sound really do suck gonads, but something has to give if you want 2000 person siege battles happening (yes systems slow right down) but they are still just about playable, something other games with good graphics will not be able to do. However, thats the problem, in this day and age, games must be good to the eye as well as gameplay to warrent a monthly subscription. Then there is also the problem at not being able to freely obtain DFO anyways. This game sounds more and more like an alpha game that people have to purchase to test it out, than a retail/released game. Only way it will get me is if they give a 2-4 week trial/test period. If good enough i will purchase, if not i wont, but without a trial, its a no chance in hell.

Startrek Online - have signed up for beta, only time will tell.

Still looking for that something, hoping one of these new ones, will be worth playing. Untill then, there are only 3 that need be looked at. - WoW (currently taking a time-out of unknown time), LoTRo (currently in trial mode, waiting for game to arrive) and finally AoC - (last of the 3, but would wait for update 5 to be released). Nothing else other than those that i can see worth didly doo-daa-dee.

So, to all of the recovering (recovered?) WoW addicts out there... What do you play now?  Which games are worth investing my time into?  Is there anything yet?  Do I wait for an upcoming release?

If PvP is your thing and you arent married to fantasy based MMOs, you will like Eve. It is the most hardcore MMO PvP game I have seen so far, and a lot more complex than WoW in just about every way. The PvP aspect of it is what really shines...player empires control much of the in-game real estate and watching their interaction is almost like a soap operah. Lots of player based drama and long term glory/consequences.

I have played it off and on since launch. I've gone to other MMOs before, but I always end up back with Eve. Just havnt seen another game with it's depth.

As far as new games coming out, I agree about Fallen Earth. I like it for many of the same reasons I like Eve. There really arent any good fantasy based games coming out that I like. Darkfall came the closest, but it looks like it didnt pan out.

Are you serious? EVE is the most hardcore mmo pvp? I never play EVE, currenlty i'm playing WAR but i found out that WOW pvp is the most hardcore and really need SKILL. WOW arena is the best pvp MMO, it's fair fight the different between win or lost is only player skill(I assume that you already have top pvp gears since they are very easy to get).

Ohh dear,

So basically you are saying if 2 teams have the best pvp gear the game has to offer then WoW is the most hardcore and takes the most skill and the WoW arena is the best pvp mmo?

Ok I wont get into EvE or any other more open pvp game but just to show how little sense that really makes, compared to wow arena what is the difference then when 2 teams in a WAR scenario are evenly matched or in AoC pvp mini game were again boith teams are matched?

Not a hell off alot is the answer, you press your spell/attack wait for it to be cast ,cast next spell move onto the next..rinse repeat,at least with AoC and WAR the healers have to be in a cone range for there heals to work were as WoW the healer can stand just about anywhere and spam his heals.

Sorry but having played alot of games I really dont see your stance that "WoW pvp is the most hardcore and really need skill"...the skill bit really threw me.

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

Dude you lose your ship and any cargo you may have in EvE when you die.... In PvP they get to loot your cargo. That is was makes it Hardcore.
In WoW you lose nothing, except a corpse run in world pvp... 10% durability in PvE. that is nothing compared to Eve.

Also skill is usually the last thing the decides the outcome of a fight in WoW.

And I hate Eve... I think It' boring as hell.

@op: I also played WoW for years and quit (a couple times). I've been trying to find another game for a few months now. The only one I actually ended up spending time with was LOTRO. I downloaded every trial and f2p I could find and if you're anything like me, I would just tell you one thing - don't waste your time. I don't think (and this is purely my opinion)  there is a mmo out right now that lives up to the standards of a long time WoW player.

Currently I play some CoD4 and get my WoW fix on naxpgaming servers. I'm waiting for Aion, SWTOR, Global Agenda, D3, SC2 and I'm about to give Warrior Epic a shot, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Some f2p games that I found playable, but still didn't hold my attention were: Runes of Magic, Free Realms, Wizard101, Dungeon Runners, Requiem Bloodymare, and Fiesta.

Good luck to you

edit: I forgot to mention that those games probably wont have the PvP elements you're looking for. You can try WAR like the post below says, but I didn't care for it. Might want to take a look at Mortal Online

This has probably already been suggested (I skipped several pages), but I think that Warhammer Online would be a good game for you. I played it for two or three months, and in my opinion its PvP (they refer to it as "RvR" or realm-versus-realm) is much more robust, balanced, and well-rounded than WoW's. Further, you're able to immerse yourself in it at every stage of leveling as there's essentially a number of battlegrounds for every level bracket (you can earn substantial experience doing nothing but PvP), and the PvP bleeds over into the game world. As their tag line goes, war really is everywhere in that game.

Overall though, and this is to be expected as it's still relatively new by MMO reckoning, Warhammer Online is very shallow in every other respect compared to WoW. Questing, events, crafting, etc. It basically focuses on one thing (PvP) and does it extremely well, and only pays a passing after thought to every other staple of the MMO genre. Just my opinion of course, mileage will vary. So if that sounds like your cup of tea I can't suggest it highly enough.

DOS 6.22 - fuzzy memories...

Try Everquest 2. From the many P2P mmogs that I've played, it offers players an unique experience, and it's very well done. Just get past all the bonus SOE throws at you, just in case you were a newbie - to try and hook you up, and you'll discover the wonderful world of Norrath.

I can't tell if you're kidding or not. WoW PVP is so horribly unbalanced and more depends on class composition and gear than skill. And this coming from a priest rated in the 2ks (yes taking the easy road with a rogue).

But to claim it's all based on skill is laughable.

He is kidding, not even the top 10 players in WoW arena tournament would agree with that statement. Just ignore it.

In all honesty and I hate to say it, the most balanced and hardcore arena based game is Guild Wars.

Now that is actually a pvp game that takes "skill" all characters are created equal, and only your brain and ability to combine skills determine if you live or die.

WoW Arena = Garbage

I know how you feel.. it's not just a good game you're looking for - it's a game that you can adept other aspects of your life too. The other games like eq2, warhammer and all the rest don't really appear all over the place. Everywhere you look is Wow stuff, Wow jokes, Wow Pictures, Wow Gold, Wow this, Wow that and Wow players everywhere. That is what feeds your addiction and your commitment to Wow. You feel like if you played a different game - everybody else is playing Wow so what's the point of playing 'insert random game here'? I bet if EQ2 was as widespread it would be the same. Wow even has a Southpark episode dedicated to it.... So you get me?

What I'm trying to tell you...  unfortunatly, you're going to have to wait for Aion... like the rest of us
