Hi there, Arawon.

I'm afraid I'm not new to SWG, but I can hopefully give you some insights on what you can expect on what I assume would be a return to SWG after a few years?

Levelling up via PvE takes you through the Tansarii Point Station Tutorial and then through many of SWGs planets and cites on the "Legacy Quest".  You can also hop over to Kashyyyk for quests at the level 20 mark.  After this you'll be looking at the Meatlump Themepark, Mustafar Expansion, Azure Cabal quests, Factional Themepark and many more fun quests and now also collections with award XP too.

There was recently a 10% increase on all XP gained in combat, so this should also help you on your way.

Missions terminals also grant you a levels worth of experience every day!

My top tip for levelling in SWG is to use the player search tool to find players around the same level as you and all do quests and missions together, its a lot of fun

More information on levelling can be found here: Guide: Understanding Experience Gain

I hope that helps.

I suggest doing the trial before you lay down any $$$ for this game.  Also choose your server wisely...many are now empty for the most part.

Do the trial and make your own decision.

One piece of advice I will give is not get too attached to anything in this game...SOE and LA have trouble understanding what a Persistent  World means...they will arbitrailiy change or remove game items and features on you lierally on a whim.

Game Play feels ok.  The character movement is responsive and targeting concists Keep Crosshairs on HitBox.  A massive problem is there's no collision detection in the game which extremely complicates combat.  For example, mobs will bunch up and you can experiance situations where multiple targets are literally standing at the exact same spot which makes it absoltuely impossible to target a specific mob.

Loot is garbage.  It appears loot only serves 2 purposes, one is Collections and the other is to clutter your inventory with animal organs and body parts which causes a situation where you have to spend a tedious amount of time selling them for credits to a Junk Dealer.  To make matters worse, looted clothing and weapons are extremely inferior to Quest Reward handouts.  Looted items are always massively inferior then Quest Rewards, to the point that looted items 10 levels higher then the lower level handouts are frequently no better; ie, clothing giving at level 3 or 4 is the same equal to looted items 10 levels higher.

Accessibility to armor and weapons is extremely unclear and often guess work.  I have found Padded Armor that indicates I can wear it although when attempting to equip it there's a system notice stting the lack of a profecientcy.  Problem is there's a lack of clarification as to what when and how you can wear armor.  A likely culprit is the most terrible skill progression chart ever concieved of.   So, why can't I wear any armor at level 18!?!

PvP, or the Galactic Civil War, is severely broken.  It's so bad that a new player cannot function in any regards in this system.  No exageration, if someone doesn't kill you in less then 1 and a half seconds they are either AFK or simply letting you think you're accomplishing something ; ex, level 18 Officer has about 3200 hitpoints buffed and attacks agasint this character are about 1400-2800 per spam.  The fault of this is the level system which is broken in every regards.

Proffesion and Pilot progression.  If you are interested in this game I would recomend you completely ignore these progression charts.  Not only are they the most repulsive piece of art ever concieved of for an alledged big budget MMO but they are also extremely uninformative and non conesquencial.  A 5 year old child with a box of colored markers could not do worse if attempting to design this - seriously, why is there even a sheet like this if the progression is absolutely linear!?!

Pilot - this appears to suffer terrible problems from the ground up.  Loot appears to be complete random (kind of good) but it's too random in the sense that you will get items in your noob ship that have absolutely no value to you for many levels to come.  Fighting tier 1 NPC's will drop tier3 and tier4 items and the skill sheet is so poor that it completely fails to clearly inform the player of their access or limits.  Having to acquire a ship and refit it throws you to the mercy of inflation where there's no hope for a player to put together a functioning ship without the assistence of others; I made about 90k total by the time I hit level 18.

Audio has some terrible looping noises where 3-5 background noises start looping over each other to the point to discgrace some of the otherwise great tracks present in the game.

Graphics are ok for a 5 year old game.  In all, I think the graphics have aged nicely.

I would say the game is pretty mediocre.  If you like action, character dynamics and a good loot system that facilitates customization and character growth I highly recomend trying the Free Trial of Dungeons and Dragons Online.  DDO has the best directed experiance you'll discover in online games and a great combat engine that's extremely tactile while emulating a far superior pseudo fps type of control.

Head my words, SWG can be fun but you'll have to purposely ignore and overlook certain aspects of the game which tend to be core features in others.  At the moment I'm playing the trial and once I started ignoring the level progression pages the game started feeling a lot better then it is.

I am currently playing a 14day trial (Piloi, Level 18 Officer, Rodian; Bria) and other then the glaring flaws I do find the pace of combat relatively decent.   My goal is to find ways to have fun in SWG based on the current design even though certain key elements are severly flawed.

p.s. If you can ignore the above facts and focus on the pacing of the combat and environments you get introduced to you will likely find the game to be a lot of fun.

p.p.s. SOE Staff, someone hire their fucking kids to redraw the skill progression pages as they are the most offensible feature I've ever seen in an MMO albeit a product of Star Wars.  If you can't get your kids to redo this, then completely remove them as there's no reasonable function or vaule to their existence.

I met someone in Tabula Rasa a little over a year ago that got me into a guild of his, I eventually mentioned SWG and he said he heard about it but never played it so he went and got an account and tried it out, he felt Tabula Rasa was 100x better and SWG's UI was butt ugly (and I agree with that). I've heard a variation of responses from new players, many like it MOSTLY because of the crafting and the sandbox environment, and could care less if it's Star Wars or not.
