I have little patience for humans...

5/18/09 10:52:39 AM#1

I played WoW for several years, and really burned myself out on it.  Took a pally to 60, a lock to 70, with a number of twinks inbetween.  Never did end game, I was a PvP whore.  I haven't played in over a year, and I refuse to go back.  I want something new.

So, to all of the recovering (recovered?) WoW addicts out there... What do you play now?  Which games are worth investing my time into?  Is there anything yet?  Do I wait for an upcoming release?

Yep Aion looks like it will be the next poison of choice,I also played wow off and on for about 4 years, been clean for around 14 months now,I have played most/all the p2p title's on the market atm and I would say to wait for Aion,I am also keeping an eye on Mortal online but that is a whole different experience and tbh could be just about be anything at the moment.

The safe money is on Aion.

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

Who knows, nobody can answer that for you. What do you enjoy in an MMOG? People play MMOGs for many different reasons, so you'll get different recommendations. I played WoW, but I'm not into PvP (though I want to try Mortal Online), so my recommendations might not be appropriate. If you like PvP, maybe you should try Darkfall. Do you want a difficult game, or something retardedly easy like another WoW? If the latter, you could try WAR. Cartoony graphics or realistic? There are lots of factors. I wouldn't recommend Aion, personally, but that's just me; it seems like more WoW to me and I need some innovation. I don't play anything now; I'm tired of paying for utter regurgitated crap. My next game will be dynamic, not just scripts, stupid NPC AI, and useless PvP. The only game that even sounds worthwhile to me currently is MO, which isn't out yet. Hopefully it won't lose features and disappoint as most games do, but we'll see.

Mortal Online has amazing potential... for greatness, or otherwise.  This is one I'm definitely looking to try out.

Perhaps a break is in order. Maybe an adventure in real life. This time away from games like MMO's may make them all the more sweeter when you pick up a new one.

If not, Try LOTRO.

I'm waiting for the NA Aion and Black Prophecy, but, you could always jump on the Chinese Aion. Quite a few all english guilds around.

Aion is the way to go imo. Not coming out till the 2h of the year, which is too vague for me. In the mean time try LOTRO. Its the best looking game out there ( havn't tried aion though) and has great quests and enviroments. A tip for LOTRO though, if your primarly a melee player, take the time in LOTRO to play a caster class. The melee classes are not as fluid as WoW because of the que system style. But classes like the Runekeeper and Loremaster shine. Just my 2cents...

If PvP is your thing and you arent married to fantasy based MMOs, you will like Eve. It is the most hardcore MMO PvP game I have seen so far, and a lot more complex than WoW in just about every way. The PvP aspect of it is what really shines...player empires control much of the in-game real estate and watching their interaction is almost like a soap operah. Lots of player based drama and long term glory/consequences.

I have played it off and on since launch. I've gone to other MMOs before, but I always end up back with Eve. Just havnt seen another game with it's depth.

As far as new games coming out, I agree about Fallen Earth. I like it for many of the same reasons I like Eve. There really arent any good fantasy based games coming out that I like. Darkfall came the closest, but it looks like it didnt pan out.

Well most I know are going to try Aion so that is an option or perhaps you might want to give Jumpgate a chance.

Well, if you don't mind emo looks, go for Aion. Mortal Online looks interesting, but if you are that kind of player that needs to see the rear of your toon, it may not be your cup of tea. You may want to try a free-to-play MMO while waiting for one of the big releases. You can still go back to WoW if everything else fails.

If you're still into PvP, I would take a look at WARHammer. If you want a true break from anything akin to WoW..then take a look at Darkfall

So I guess you want someting better than WoW then? Hehe, nice one.

The recipe is this; try every free trial you can get your hands on, then buy one moth subscribtion (this crucial, ONE MONTH, do not make a mistake of buying 3 months up front) to EVE, play that for two weeks, let it sit for another 2 weeks and then get really drunk with your mates the first weekend after that

Once the ritual is complete, you have cleansed your system of wishing for impossible, go buy Wrath of the Lich King and join us in Northrend...     join us...   join us..   join ussssssss

I really like AOC it has great and realistic graphics not cartoony like wow,  the combat is the best I have played on an mmo and I have played many.  It is more of a linier mmo but at least your not running around looking for something to do and getting bored.  It has a PvP world similar to what was found in Shadow Bane although you can play in a PvE world also. Crafting does not start til lvl 20 and at this point is average (who cares).  there is no fishing (thank God) and the quests are good.  So if you like great graphics (and who does'nt) and great combat (by the way "city of heroes" also has great combat just not the graphics) you should try this game and you can now play it on a good computer it does not have to be great because Funcom did a nice job optimizing the game.

All the newly released ones suck. I'm playing non mmo's for kicks now. No grind and all the pvp.

I was in the OP's shoes a while back, I tried different kinds of medication; Lotro, AOC, WAR and dusted off a few single player games inbetween like Oblivion and X3-reunion. Nothing helped me and I am back to full time anticipating new releases.

It is not very likely that WAR or AOC or LOTRO will keep you interested in the long run. Since I never found the excitement of pvp in WOW in either of those games and I was a dedicated (world)pvp, non-endgame player like yourself.

Mortal Online is at the top of my list now, followed by Aion.

And before you get disencouraged by people who write that the 1st person aspect to Mortal Online fails, read up on the game. You might be happily surprised.

Though Aion will probably be more similar to WOW in gameplay and mechanics if that is important to you, MO will have a shitload of freedom, immersion and realism (and devs with very bright ideas on many aspects, it seems).

Kinda like the post above I found that games like LoTRO and WAR are just more of the same as WOW.......The gameplay feels eerily similar in all these games (EQ2 also)........The newer MMOs just feel so cookie cutter and that they are just trying to take what was successful in WOW and run with it..........LIke some of the posters have said you can try LoTRO, WAR, EQ2, AoC and games like that just dont be surprised when it feels like your playing WoW all over again.......It just depends on what you want out of your MMO.....Like others have suggested, try the games that have free trials and see what you think.....The only problem is some of the games are actually better during the early levels than they are later.

A recovering addict should not turn ot another mmo to defeat their addiction, play some single player rpgs, get hook to them but its okay getting hooked to them because theres really no need to constantly play and have to worry about competition.

I was playing Atlantica Online and got bored with it after awhile. I didn't think I'd like a game like that because it came close to looking like WoW. Interestingly enough, it was alright. However, the repeatative monsters and fighting style became a bore to me. That and the missions weren't far from being the same. You'd climb to higher levels yet still be fighting some sort of tiger or something. PvP wasn't that fun either. Aw well.
