I too was there at that party and it sure was fun to watch. Everyone does this and i dont consider it as failing the game. Darkfall still remains to be the best mmorpg avaible for me.

HAHAHAA

This post is hilarious! Not even the GMs "work" in this "game. What a joke!

And again, your cop analogy is flawed. Some GMs, the ones that don't have temp ban powers, aren't the same as cops. They are more like the neighborhood watch people that try to enact citizen arrest.

No matter how you spiin this... it still is a black eye for DarkFall.

Either they have a significant portion of their player-base that will use any and every opportunity to exploit, or they have GM's that are abusing their position.

Even if you are correct in that the GM is abusing his power... it doesn't make the actions of the players that the OP is talking about more legitimate... does it?

Nope.  No matter how it is spun... the majority of gamers are going to take the position that the players mentioned in the OP do NOT seem like the type we would enjoy gaming with.

Sorry, the community in DarkFall is going to need to do some growing up if DarkFall is going to be the next EvE.

I suggest we start a campaign to make all other MMO companies to finance Adventurine with % of their earnings, so they could have Darkfall running and with more servers. That way all cheaters, exploiters, hackers, macroers and all other lowlifes could join their brotgers in Cheaters Heaven (aka Darkfall) and left all other games free of them

I think this is probably the second poster from the darkfall forums that have posted something here that the entire website, even the fanboys have flamed for retardation. This thread makes me sad in the pants.
Full loot pvp game and the GM didn't just cast AoE insta kill and loot everyone?
that made me laugh and skipp al the rest of the posts to say so.... -_-

a free totally open game with free pvp / looting and killing is bound to fail... its not hard to understand, its not something that would work in the real world because of how humans work... why would it work in a game???????? especially if you see that the people usually capable of this behaviour are between 12 and 24 and male... and offcourse non of those are playing darkfall... **cough** This game probally wouldnt have this problem if all playing where 70 years old....

awwwwwwwww damn you made me rant :( :( can i get my time back?

Sigh ..... I really am trying to look at this with a shred of positive but it's just not coming to me.  I honestly don't understand why Aventurine just doesn't nip these things in the butt.  When they become aware of them they should rectify the situation quickly, within a day or so.  Instead the exploits linger on and we end up with what we have here.  The acid pool exploit was the same kinda thing.

Hopefully the patch today will rectify the situation.

LOL while it may have been "fun", OP and other participants in this incident remind me of those idiots that videotape themselves committing crimes and posting them on youtube.

I mean, I don't play DF and I probably never will, as it's just not my cup of coco, but if this is the general attitude (and it seems to be, if there are hundreds of players participating in such an exploit event) then is it really so surprising that game developers and GMs have such a hard time?

My problem with a lot of MMOs are the players not the games ;)

yes, this is what you can expect from the "people" playing.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

I vote this thread the most painful DF thread of the week... ouchies.

... but gosh Jane I am so surprised that DF GMs are unprofessional and there a whole load of gameplay mechanics existing in a gray area between legitimate or exploits status. Its not like this game is badly planned, thought out and executed with a insane ranting lead developers and idiotic fanbase...

oh... riiiiiight :)

Good grief.....Paragus' excellent write ups almost had me consider playing this game, despite it's multitude of documented flaws, because I have a buddy who plays and his write up made me nostalgic about Shadowbane.......until I read this.

Thanks OP for clearing my head, I must still be hungover to even have considered......

But from the OP's account there were more then 200 people participating.

Isn't that like...
half the playerbase?

I'm sorry, I'm not following. What does the amount of people doing something stupid in game have to do with me saying that this is probably one of only a few people that have posted something stupid here, that the entire website seemingly have attacked him for. Are you implying that most of the people attacking him here, are in fact hypocritical players that did the same thing in the game? I'm not trying to sound like a smartass, I honestly didn't understand your response to my quote.

Ok so people throughout Darkfall have been using a great way to train rigor by encouraging mass participation within major alliances. Basically we have 15-30 spell casters with the earth magic called earthquake and then we form a pyramid with non-casters surrounding the casters. Everyone donates reagents for the casters to use.

Then they click and release the AOE spell which trains our rigor skill while we don't get hurt since they don't hold onto the spell. Earthquake is a spell that does DOT around the caster and hurts everyone in range. But we don't take damage which lets us train rigor 100X faster than normal. This was suppose to be a smart way to train a skill but the GM's recently declared it an exploit.

Yesterday, while we just formed our pyramid after over an hour of organizing 200+ people a GM talked on public chat while we were taking advantage of game mechanics. I later found out that they destroyed another 'rigor party' in another major clan/alliance by kicking people. First our alliance leader tried to persuade the GM that it isn't an exploit but it failed since the GM said that the devs considered it an exploit. Then he started talking bs with some sarcasm which was hilarious.

Soon the GM began kicking people but there were too many people so I barely noticed people disappearing. Our casters just logged back in after being kicked so the GM couldn't beat us. He kept trying and trying but for some reason he couldn't kick us fast enough. Then we spammed public chat with stuff like "MORTAL ONLINE" and "MO" and the chat was flooded like crazy and it became more laggier.

Eventually the GM gave up and we used the rigor pyramid all last night into the morning when the servers went down for daily restart. We did it the whole day also today and the GM isn't interfering anymore because we kicked his ass. We are going to do it until they patch it in about 7 hours which is the patch tomorrow morning. It was the first time that I saw a GM back down from the biggest alliance in the game.

Fun.

Here is a screenshot of the public chat from another city that had a rigor pyramid going on and a GM interrupting it.

You did it, you finally did it.  You made this game look shit in a way that even the fanboys can't deny.

The one and only.

Hehe, No worries then. And yes it is rather interesting to see both sides uniting against something. So good on you OP, as laughable as your post was, it made some decent conversation in here. Halfwit, or Brilliance on his part...you decide.;)

and yet when the fiasco of corrupt gm's disrupting sieges (and otherwise cheating to help their own character's alliances and such) the lord of all things spindoctoring, I mean Tasos,  stated in public releases to the gaming press that GM's in DF cannot kick players from the game and that's part of how they knew the claims were false :P.

So you are saying the OP is a liar?   I just want to be clear.

To be honest I can't make any sense out of the screenshots of all that chat, so I'm not sure who to believe.

But mind you, we've learned not to believe a single thing that comes out of Tasos and he really says their GMs cannot kick players?   With the community forming around Darkfall, that's like sending peacekeepers into Somalia with nothing but whiffle bats.

Tasos never said GMs couldn't kick people.  What he said was Aventurine checked the logs and found the reports of the GMs being corrupt (at that time) weren't true.  He also said that GMs don't have the power to crash the server:

"First of all GMs cannot crash the server, or cause a client to crash. They cannot create items or money. All their actions and communications are monitored and logged. We re-checked all chat logs and GM activity for every report mentioned in the forums or reported to us at the help desk, over the time periods that the questionable conduct was supposed to have taken place and found absolutely nothing. Because of this, any public accusations on the forums accusing GMs or the company of any such activities will be removed, and everyone contributing in the thread will be banned from the forums.

GM activity is always monitored by us. If you would like to report GM conduct, then you should use support.darkfallonline.com to do so if you have proof of misconduct."

In this case, was a GM abusing his or her power?  Who knows?  It does seem like the rigor pyramid is an expoit, but that the GM didn't really have enough power to stop it.
