It's a matter of e-Natural Selection. Wow is getting far too many subscribers and the buck had to stop somewhere. |

I WISH TO CONTRIBUTE TO THIS INCREDIBLE AND ORIGINAL TOPIC BY SAYING THAT THE CORPORATIONS SHOULD GIVE EVERYONE WHO DIED A LOLLIPOP AND END IT AT THAT BECAUSE IT WOULD BE FUNNY TO HAVE A LOLLIPOP IN SOMEONE'S MOUTH WHILE THEY'RE DEAD AND WHO KNOWS MAYBE IT'LL GIVE THEM THE NUTRIENTS TO LIVE ON FOR ANOTHER RAID OR TWO AMIRITE? Playing: Non--erm, wait, no, WoW. You all need to learn to spell. |

The problem isn't that MMOG's kill people. It's that some people never die. I mean illicit drugs kill many people but not all that use. The previous 5 posts are testament to MMOG's ineffectiveness. |

I'm quite confident that a fear greater number of people die watching TV. Or eating. Or sleeping. Or sitting on the toilet. |

Sitting on the toilet kills you? And it's addictive? Oh my gawd. Someone sue the toilet manufacturers!!!! Those monsters. No one is immune to responsibility. |

I didn't read through the responses yet (will though in a sec) but I had to respond. What the hell ever happened to personal responsiblity? If it was a kid who died, the parents are responsible. But most if not all deaths from MMO'ing is from full grown, cognitive, normally logical adults. They weren't impaired in any way other than by the inability to get up and walk around once an hour at the very least. Idiots, all of them. I don't want the damned govt. getting involved in my business and I don't need them or a gaming company telling us how long we can/should play for. I know when I need a break and I quit out of game and get some air and sunshine. These people were idiots for not paying attention to themselves. BTW, in Las Vegas, or any other gambling mecca for that matter, nobody goes up to the craps table and tells someone they've had enough (unless they're winning). If an adult can't make that decision for themselves, then they deserve to be taken out of the gene pool. |

"Why is it okay for our children to die playing MMO's?" That's how you do it. Well it's all for me grog, me jolly jolly grog,
all for me beer and tobacco! |

The structure of the products (games) has nothing to do with people overplaying and keeling over of exhaustion, heart attack or blood clots. What we should be discontent with is NOT the games, but with the human mind. It's the people who made the stupid decision to play to the point of death. The game did not make that decision for them. Absolutely nothing was stopping that person from walking away except their own, screwed up mind. Key word should be "priorities". They had theirs all screwed up. I don't want a nanny state taking care of us. We can do without that. |

Stupidity kills people every day. Maybe the government should outlaw that too. |

We are 6,000,000,000 people on earth, do you really think I care if 6 of them die because of extreme stupidity. You can all die for all I care. We are the plague anyway.

Because someone is addicted does not mean they are "stupid" or not intelligent enough to see that what they are doing isn't helping them. They often realise they are addicted but continue, but it doesn't make them "stupid" it just makes them addicted. MMO addiction isn't something to joke about. I hope for every person who jokes about those people who are in a period where they have trouble controlling their life, that they themselves never get into a similar situation where everyone laughs at them instead of trying to help them. |

People die do anything, even something as innocuous as not going pee for the sake of winning a Wii in a contest. Just because it's humans dying, it's different, we think all people should be able to live out their entire lives. No reality in that, folks. People die, all the time, every day, every minute, often from stupid things. There's going to be collateral damage in all avenues of life no matter what you do. It's sad, but it's the reality we live in. My Novel-Length Star Wars Fanfic. Posting A New Chapter Every Week. Lemmie Know What You Think. |

*vomit at the replies* Yes I think they should disconnect players after 20 hours of continue play for example.. I know people in this forum is so cool and don't care about the weak, but if a simple feature like this can save a human life, even if it's a poor clueless boy or guy, and a destroyed family it's worth it. |

Life has idiots who, given enough rope, will allow their idiocy to kill them. It's been this way for countless millennia, and one thing you can't control is human nature. Look how well Prohibition turned out. Want to try that again? |

Everyone who was ever born has died or will do at some time in their future. The only way to prevent this is sterilise every human until there are none left.
"Why aren't more people asking questions like me?!" Probably because such questions are meaningless and pointless. Most reasonable people would like to have some freedom to live their lives they way they choose without interference from the do-gooders who feel cheated if they can't control every aspect of everybody elses lives. |

Originally posted by dippyzippy If someone died because they played a game too much then they belong on the Darwin Awards right along side the family of mexicans who died because some idiot ran a gas powered generator inside their house all night during a power outage. I'm sorry but stupid people need to die, they deserve to die, and they die for a noble cause (increasing the average IQ rating). Unfortunately people like YOU are trying to disrupt natural selection by making it easier for Clyde to not only continue living but continue pumping out useless worthless kids and ruin THOUSANDS of lives throughout their own short, simple, pointless lives. I don't want warnings "in and out of games" to take breaks. I'm what you call RESPONSIBLE! If someone else isn't responsible enough to handle their addictions (whatever those might be) then they deserve their ODs, their starvations, their gassings, and their job loss. And the reason no one has been held accountable is because of the user agreement everyone clicks "accept" on which states "We are not responsible for your stupidity. Should you die playing this game, it's not our fault. Suck off." |

You do all realize that people die all the time. That person dying while playing everquest could have died while flipping a burger at burger king. Statistically a few deaths during video games is pretty good considering how many people play them and its bound to happen just by odds. |

Originally posted by Waterlily There is no such thing as MMO addiction. People who neglect themselves or their responsibilities in favour of playing MMO's don't do so because the MMO has addicted them; they are suffering from an impulse control disorder. These people do need help, often in the form of an intervention as they are unable to break their self-destructive cycle themselves .. but labelling the problem as "MMO addiction" muddies the waters by suggesting that the MMOs themselves are the root cause. They're not. Sad as it is, some people are just mentally ill. |

I was hospitalized for dehydration and sleep deprivation after reading through 20 pages of this thread. I'm going to have to sue the OP, because he didn't put a warning somewhere.

*Edit - Even with actual addictions a person still has some say in whether to continue the cycle. |

Oh, and don't forget to ban food and water. There's more people that die from obesity, allergies, choking and over hydration than die from playing MMOs per year. |
