I can see your point though. Aventurine made some lofty promises, and has failed to deliver on many of those. The billing fiasco was just another failure. I can see people wanting compensation.
Look at it the other way. If AV is able to get away cheating in game delivery and billing, and make heaps of profit, lots of small companies will follow suite, as its easier to cheat than to be creative and more profitable, riskless. All honest indies goes crooks, you can forget about indies and new games. Before you can have creative business, you need business. Before you can have business you need business ethics and environment. |

This post is absolutely outrighteous. I've seen other people post like this in response to another person who suffered a similar depression from abuse in one of these games. The depth of callousness shows that this person is just a sociopathic ingrate who should be locked up in the looney bin. |

90% say the game is bad, 10% say they like. For me a game that calls itself sand box usually means they got lazy developers. I should make a game. Make a massive landscape stick a couple of nodes in, couple of mobs with small loot tables scatered around and viola we have darkfall. Seriously though we already know its bad no point in making another thread saying it is.

i'm looking at the official darkfall website, and i have to say that i don't believe those december interviews are accurate or credible. it must've been an evil clone doing those interviews. could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please? |

Darkfall is a poor game. It lacks some of the most basic elements that you associate with an MMO. It's got some glorified content thier that make it MMO-esque but in reality, it's not an MMO. Their PR is crap. Their customer service team is crap. The whole Darkfall experience is like going to a cafe and ordering toast because you like toast. However, when you get the toast you find that the bread is burnt, as thin as a tissue and covered in shit. On top of that, Darkfall has a disgusting side to its community. Some DF fans remind of the people I know that I cross the street to avoid because every time I talk to them, they say something that makes me want to punch their teeth out. On the other hand, there are some guys there that are really intelligent and will go out of their way to help out new players and give some basic pointers (after they have owned you). That sums up my own review of Darkfall. However, I can see why it has some appeal. It has a LOT of potential and if Tasos takes a break from being a raging moron for a few weeks, we may well see it improve. There is some stuff that they are working on that may well increase the image of the game for me, if these things are done well. They really do need to look at the UI because it is rubbish. Character animations need to be improved. The solo experience (that the main page talks about) needs to be fixed so that it works. If they don't sort out these basic problems, Mortal Online may well slaughter them (if they get it right). However, what Eurogamer did was plain wrong and far more conceited that anything Tasos has lied about in the past. Tasos may well be the single most unpopular developer in the MMO world now but I can empathise with the guy in this instance. Eurogamer gave Darkfall the lowest score it has ever given based on less than 3 hours of game time. That just doesn't work. The reviewer has a past history of doing this to independents as well, so I can see why DF complained. The brilliant thing is that Tasos is arrogant enough to make a massive issue out of it instead of fading into oblivion. He may well be an arsehole but he's good at making a fuss. Eurogamer's re-review won't rate Darkfall. It'll be a poor review and DF will get a poor score. In fact, most reasonable reviewers would not give DF much aboive a 60% mark because it doesn't cut it. It's not a AAA release by any stretch of the imagination and no amount of Av mobilising its rabid army of fanboys should put off reviewers from being honest and truthful.

To people who say $50 is a lot of money and losing it is worth all the time and effort you are putting into crusading against the cruel Tasos and his evil AV empire, please follow these simple steps: 1) stop playing video games. 2) find a job. If you already have a job find a better one or work more hours. If you aren't old enough for a job and actually wasted mommy and daddy's money shut the hell up. 3) If you refuse steps 1 and 2, then do a little more research before wasting your rent money on a video game you may not like. This should help to curb your emo-rage when you do in fact decide to waste your hard-earned rent money on a video game as, with that added research you should be able to weed out the games you will dislike from the ones you actually will enjoy before entering into a binding agreement to spend said hard-earned rent money on said video game. Follow these 3 easy steps and you will live a much more rewarding life. This advice is free, even though i know it will change your life for the better. You are welcome. |
