i just got the gamespot newslater and saw that their estimated release date for swtor is the 31 of december 2010.

thats just too long to wait. i doubt i will even be interested in mmo's by then, because the genre has become stale for me and i think im done.

I dont think bioware have released a release date, to anyone, so this might just be putting a date for the sake of having a date?

News years eve sounds like a place holder date to me

I'm pretty sure they would want to release it before Christmas so that they could get the most from the holiday, as far as sales.

Yeah it's just a speculative date I assume. It could come out anytime in 2010. I would wait till the say it's official though. Until then it's all about speculation.

yes, but usually game sites are notorious for giving an earlier release date. there must be some truth behind this date as gamespot recently met up with bioware to discuss the game.

I am never sure how true this statement is and it has been made by some posters in the past.

Christmas does see alot of AAA+ titles and I mean non mmo title's,yes a title like star wars would sell alot at Christmas but so would it at anytime of the year,the thing is alot of ppl maybe buy 1 or 2 games for there kids/family/friends at this time and as there is so many top titles released then is it a wise market move to release then for the mmo genre...maybe this is a bit too much off-topic for this thread but I think mmo devs also have this in mind.

There is no chance SWTOR will come out until very late 2010. Maybe summer.

But I would not hold my breath.

It will probably be released early 2011

2011 is a LONG time to wait, the game looks good, but in 2 years, there something better, so i hope for theire sake, it will come out earlier

I can easily see another year before release.

Sometime in late 2010 seems possible, have to see how things develop this year.

A whiles back, Amazon had it for September of 2009.  That was promptly changed.  I wouldn't put too much stock in any information not given by official channels.

gamespot is way wrong, though u still cant really guess a release date more so for swtor.

The facts i know.

Bioware has been working on this game for years now, they didnt just start on it when they started telling people that they was making the game.

Bioware is known for keeping there stuff hiddin from the public untill there very deep in devalapment.

I am no computer programmer but from what I have read  about games, the hardest ( and longest) part to making a game is creating a graphics engain. There not creating an engain from scratch they are useing the HeroEngine that has been around a while, if its not hero its called somthing like that i cant remember. So sense they dont have to make there own, they knock off a pritty good chunck of dev time.  

There is still not tones of info about this game going around yet, because bioware are better at keeping secrets then the pentagon. I think it will be a very very slim chance it comes out this year, but it would not suprise me either, it is possible however.  I would bet all of next years pay i get, that it will second quarter of next year. If it comes out in late 2010 or 2011 or 212 would not bother me though, it would just mean they put more time into it to make the game better.  The biggest thing that makes me think its not going to be to long, is well big daddy EA .

EA from what I have seen of most of there games, are crappy, bioware are good at creating games some of the best ive ever played, and even if they say EA isnt holding there lish, there signing there checks and will be pushed to the limet to getting that game out and on sale ASAP finished or not. 

I woudlnt put much stock in what, amazon says, or even gamespot untill its offical, how the heck would amazon know anyway,

it was prob just a error on there part, a bioware game is coming out close to that the month after sep  called dragon age, some one could have gotten it confused or somthing.

Game spots date was just a guess, but even if some people thinks bioware told them that behind closed doors and off the record to is bs because well bioware most likly dont even have  a exact date in mind, and when u get an exact date a year and a half away that makes it even worse.  I would not put it past them either, to give an offical release date, just 2 months before release. Thats also a good marketing strategy buids up anticipation, the less you know, the longer you dont know the more you want to know :) 

dec 31 of any year is just retarded most teens will be out trying to find a party, most adults will be partying at there house, others will be camping, cooking out that kinda stuff, not all but most.  Hardcore gamers though, will be in lines heck they could release it on feb 14th and they would be out there buying it, There would be a lot of relationships ended that day, broken hearts but by the end of the day people would be killing jedi with a lightsaber and they would fill better.

My uneducated guess is that the game will be released some time in early 2010, but not as late as Dec. The game has been worked on for atleast three years, two of which a 12 member staff of writers has been working on it. So a lot of the game has been worked out (I'd hope) and I'm thinking this year they just are going to release info, polish up the game a bit and then later this year maybe start a beta. Only reason i can see Dec 2010 being the release date is Bioware giving themselves enough time in case things need to be worked out.
