I don't normally kick something when its down but the Tasos rant along with the backlash has made me think otherwise. Let me put it to you simply.  I do feel i was SCAMMED out of my money. Now I take full responsibility for this because I'm the jack ass who actaully parted with my money to buy this game (almost 70$ Canadian I might add). I waited in line as they artifically limited the sales to give the illusion of demand.  I played the game as they randomly decided to take down servers with no advance warning. I sat in their piece of crap queues (which have been fixed....I will give them).  I searched around the landscape looking for content to engage in other than mindless ganking......at the time I couldnt find any spawns that a> worked properly b> worked at all.

I've watched this community start off large as many hoped it would be the 3d UO we all want so dam bad.  I saw it weed down to the hardcores that are there.  All the time a rather large group of people with social skills akin to tree slugs berate anyone who didnt talk in l33t speak and feel the same way they do.

If Tasos expected the people his company ripped off to sit back idly while he discredits the Eurogamer review as complete bias then he's made a very serious mistake.

EVERYTHING ABOUT HOW THIS GAME WAS ADVERTISED WAS MISLEADING.  I do not typically generalize communities in games. I think its like walking into Walmart and trying to caste everyone with the same brush. Darkfall is different.....the community has a large number of idiots....a lot of them spout crap here each day.  Many of them are playing Quake online or are %100 pvp ffa clan warfare.  Ok, if the game was always marketed as just quake III in MMO clothes, fine, but it wasnt.....it was suposed to be a MMO.

I expect part of the reason the features listed on their website (which STILL is not updated)  is due to the fact they had to launch earlier than they wanted to.  I don't blame them for running out of money.  However, that does not change the fact that this game is a halfbaked bastardization of a mmo desinged for socio paths and FPS players.  The features are misleading, the idea you can be a small fish in big world is misleading........the whole notion that this IS A mmo is misleading.

The graphics are not as bad as people say but the UI is.  Hint: MS DOS was replaced with a GUI for a reason.

This game encompasses none of the lessons learned from 10 years of commercial mmos.  They threw the baby out with the bath water and are trying to pass of tedium as hardcore.

 

dont waste your money and dont believe the hype. Despite the (apparent) underhandedness of the Eurogamer review, much of the spirit ofthe review is accurate.

Well, i know most of you DF fans like to think that those people who hate this game and keep posting about it are all themepark carebears when we are mostly not, we wouldn't even have touched this game then because it is not safe and fluffy enough.

i have been a competive qw, q2 arena and cpma player, i was a pk in uo, in nc and wherenot, i played many games, i LOVE pvp, i am all for death penalty and partial/full loot and i WANTED to like DF at any cost. the concept is good, the product is not. it is a college school garage project that horribly failed. and tasos scammed us. period.

AV grossly misadvertises thier game.  Moreso then any MMO I have ever played, and that's just about all of them.
They charge more then the standard box fee, and a higher monthly fee then AAA titles.

The released the game with some spawns and rudimentary AI.  They're only now adding more after 2 months and thier STILL messing with the AI.  This is the same AI that was so advanced that Tasos said the servers couldn't tell the dif. between a player and an NPC.

This game is LITERALLY in beta.
The staged release is the same thing companies do during a beta.
Implimentation of art assets.  Beta.
Gradual implimention of PvE content.  Beta.
Adjusting core mechanics.  Beta.
These are all things that should be happening during beta.  And yes, I have been in betas before.

Character models weren't finished when it released.  Buildings weren't finished.  Portions of the world weren't finished.  Skills weren't finished.  Clan city assets weren't finished. 

"No MMO is ever finished," is not an exceptable excuse for this.  A GAME should be finished when it releases and then NEW content should be added.
When you say the game is 100% complete, it should be complete and everything post release should be added content and balances; not developement of it's core.

If AV ran out of money after 8 years, that's thier fault.
Charging people for this game is a rip off.

And they didn't get me for 50, they got me for nearly 100.

In the 5 years I've been a member of this site, this is the ONLY game I have ever actively told people to

STAY AWAY!

if all the people posting feel that DF is lacking a mature community... there ARE mature communities of players that play (no, i'm NOT talking about goonswarm);  old timers guild, comes to mind... i believe it's 25+ and the only requirement is you have fun, or something like that.  most any game can be made palatable if you're playing with the right group of people.

besides, if a group like the old timers guild gets enoug people... this game is all about zerg... and once you zerg enough, you get skills, you get experience, next thing you know... your 500 noob carebear zergers are battle hardened vets with great stats/skills/equipment.

if all the people posting feel that DF is lacking a mature community... there ARE mature communities of players that play (no, i'm NOT talking about goonswarm);  old timers guild, comes to mind... i believe it's 25+ and the only requirement is you have fun, or something like that.  most any game can be made palatable if you're playing with the right group of people.

 

besides, if a group like the old timers guild gets enoug people... this game is all about zerg... and once you zerg enough, you get skills, you get experience, next thing you know... your 500 noob carebear zergers are battle hardened vets with great stats/skills/equipment.

Getting a kill isn't worth saying more than a few sentences over, and it damn sure isn't worth making an ass out of yourself over.

you get what you deserve, keep throwing away your money for playing a beta. this is the reason why there is less quality in MMOs these days because of people like the OP that follows the hype and dont think by themselves. just by looking Darkfall's official website was enough to stay away from that game and wait to see what happened after release. Then when the game releases, everthying started to get dark, and the end, fall apart. Enjoy Darkfall!

Well, in my opinion, there is nothing wrong with jacking some newbie so much that he hangs himself IRL over it. Inflicting that level of pain on someone else is not only amusing, but challenging.

Darkfall didn't advertise itself as anything. It didn't advertise itself at all. Only advertisement this game has ever had, was forum talk and word of mouth. On topic - are you really trying to say that a serial killer would make a BAD Darkfall player? I think you're being naive. It takes a certain mindset to succeed in a situation where someone becomes a victim. That's sandbox PvP. I was pointing out that of all the sick bastards, I would rather stick with people my own age and maturity, rather than to gank with kids who think what they are doing is "cool".

I mean, it would be fun either way, but those kids would get annoying after a while, no?
