No real help for you sorry, but I've been playing in Win7 since beta and it works fine for me.  Maybe a video driver issue?

Since Windows 7 is a Beta Operating System, there is a reason your probably having issues but others are not. This is the downfall of using a Beta OS and you cannot expect them to help you with this issue. The only thing you can do if you do not get it running and still want to play is use another OS.

Now my opinion is this, people need to quit doing full installs of Beta OS's. You can sit here and tell me all day long that this Beta OS is better than a full retail OS, but it doesn't matter. If your going to install a Beta OS, partition your hard drive and install an OS that is retail and the beta OS. That way if you have problems with the Beta OS, you can still play the game on the retail OS it is designed for.

Now for help, check the version of Windows 7 you have and make sure it is the lasted build. If not, then expect problems till you get the lastest build. Other than that, there is nothing else you will be able to do but workarounds until the OS becomes retail.

I agree mackdawg19.

And most likely the person is not running the most current beta ( build 7077, which I currently run due to dev beta ) if they are just in the standard public beta, they would have build 7000. Unless of course they pirated the newer version, which just adds more problems to the fact it's a beta.

However, I will say one thing. I have ran into very few ( as in less than the fingers of one hand ) programs that won't run on Windows 7. More than likely there is a small couple of lines of code which prevent the program running in 7.

And while I agree that the company is not obligated at this time to do anything, now WOULD be in fact a very good time to start making sure code is compatible. Windows 7 launch is not far off at all, and I don't think we need another Vista launch situation where companies waited six months or longer to make their programs compatible with Vista.

And as I'm sure you will agree, it is not the OS manufacturers' responsibilty to make the OS compatible with a few random programs, it is those programs creators who bear that responsibility. And I can honestly say that I have thrown just about every program and game known to civilized man at Windows 7, and it is a very few random programs that will not run. A couple of those being downloaders which use a P2P connection of some type ( such as for patching certain games/mmos and such ).

Edit; @ the OP: the easiest thing would be to get the free Virtual PC with Windows XP binaries from Microsoft and just run the game under XP with IE7 in the VM.

Funcom needs to change the /petition command into a general nano called "Summon Personal Jester"
with a 1 hour cast time and 90% fumble rate.

I keep hearing about this cloud computing thing and I bet that's where FC is putting the grahics engine. Right now they're investing in the weather balloon technology to get all the bits of code up there. Helium is expensive so it might take awhile.

While I agree with some of what you've said (you shouldn't install a Beta OS without at least having a backup option, such as your original OS on another partition), I wouldn't go about discouraging people from using them and reporting program compatibility issues experienced.  Windows 7 will soon be out (some say as early as July) and FreeRealms is going to need be able to run flawlessly on it.  Considering this is a new game, it should be expected to work when 7 is released.

I too am having the same issue the OP is having under Windows 7, which is a little concerning since FreeRealms is a brand new game and is the first application I've actually had an issue running on 7.

I found a post on the freerealms forum to fix this problem, basicaly what you have to do is go to this directory : C:\Users\ (your user name )\AppData\LocalLow\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\Free Realms

and edit this file : UserOptions (config file)

you edit this line :

[Display]
FullscreenRefresh=0
FullscreenWidth=1920
FullscreenHeight=1080
WindowedWidth=1680
WindowedHeight=1050
Mode=Fullscreen                          <-------------------------

change 'fullscreen' to windowed

and save.

That fixed my problem once, when i put back the fullscreen mode it worked but as soon as I exit the game and laungh it back i have to redo this to fix it again.

At least it works so it means the game actualy works with windows 7.

Good luck , sorry for my english, it's not my main language.

Very true, I just installed the Windows 7 new 7000 public beta last night on a new partition!  I'm liking it, but have yet to reinstall video/sound/other drivers etc to test out games.

The problem really has nothing to do with the OS. I was experiencing the same thing in Vista Home Prem 64. I have a friend who was getting the same thing in XP.

None of us has figured out exactly WHAT is causing it, contacting support was really no help in my case. However, the fix posted above DOES fix the problem. Or at least it did for me and everyone else I know personally who was experiencing it. I've also read many posts on the FR forums from people saying it worked for them as well.

I am having the same problem, but when I try to follow the path through the C:/ I only get to (user name) and in the folder there is no folder named "Appdata".   Is there a step I am missing?

Thanks

Oh i think you have to enable hidden files to be able to view that.

Check your folder option when you go to explorer: alt to get the menu, then go to Tools -> folder options -> go to the tab View

and you should be able to see the option : Show Hidden files , folder an drive.

There is no real danger if you do that but consider  that if you delete any hidden files you can corrupt your windows installation.

Keep me updated if this fixed your problem.
