It's no question that there are some players, especially in the highly competitive Counter-Strike community, that take the game a little too seriously. In Novosibirsk, Russia, a simple one on one game of Counter-Strike ended in the brutal murder of a seventeen-year-old (Alexei) by his fourteen-year-old rival (Alexander). According to the investigation report on the Novosibirsk Prosecutor’s Office website, the two boys had met at a local cyber café to play Counter-Strike together. Alexei, the older of the two boys, had continuously defeated his younger rival which led to several fights breaking out, only to be broken up by the café's administrator. During the night, both boys were drinking alcohol and continued to play the game, despite their rapidly degrading relationship. Alexander had left the café first and, with another, older friend, waiting outside until Alexei finished playing at 3:00am. Upon leaving, Alexander proceeded to hit Alexei over the head with a brick until he succumbed to his injuries. The half-buried body was discovered the following morning by residents. The killer testified in court that his seventeen-year-old friend had nothing to do with the murder or attempted disposal of the body. Alexander was found guilty and sentenced to four years imprisonment at a penal colony for minors. The boy was sentenced under Article 111, Paragraph 4 that states that, while the attack was deliberate and meant to cause serious bodily harm, that the death was accidental, hence the short sentence. Prosecuting attorneys attempted to appeal this, but the sentence remains.

People seldom do what they believe in. They do what is convenient, then repent. |

They should consider outlawing competition if they really want to get to the heart of the matter. (for the dense: this is sarcasm) |

Something exactly like this happened about 8 years ago. The next town over from where I live. It was in Garden Grove,CA I believe. The place was called "PC cafe" the victim got stabbed in the head with screwdriver, over a game of CS. Good thing they caught the suspect though, a few days later.

What... The.. Fuck..?
This is why i stay out of public gaming spaces, i know i get on an epic level of own when im plaiyng call of duty 4, and the way i smack talk, id prolly have a screwdriver or two in the neck waiting for me too.
It wouldve of been epic if he shouted "BOOM! Headshot!" WHen he clubbed him in the head.
Yes i am making fun, because if you get killed over a video game, then natrual selection has demonstrated once again that it is the driving factor in the universe. I would wonder how much taunting was involved. The amount of taunting that's considered "normal" in competitive gaming is, from my point of view, frequently psychotic. |

Yea im surprised the cafe was allowing both of them to drink even though they were fighting. Talk about nerd rage to the extreme. But on a serious note, alcohol makes people act like complete idiots. My freshman year of college, I was at my buddy's apartment with some friends, and they were taking turns playing Gears of War online (only 2 controllers) we were all drinking, but I was drinking a lot. I would trash talk everybody, but in a joking non-serious way, because thats what my brother and my cousin did to me. So my friend, who just happened to be a big black dude named Jamal called me out, we argued, I told him he couldn't knock me out, we went outside, and next thing I knew...I was on the ground asking what the fuck happened. Yea, he knocked me out. To this day, I dont remember the punch. I had a black eye for 9 days. Not one of my prouder moments. And the ridiculous thing is it all stemmed from video games and alcohol. This is why I don't talk shit to people I don't know in video games. God forbid the crazy fucker somehow tracks me down through my IP adress and in the middle of the night kills my entire family in the name of his Video game god! Fuck that. That crzy mofo should be put to death for murdering that poor kid over a game. Playing: EvE, Ryzom |

At 14 I was out drinking sneaking into clubs and my parents couldn't do a thing because you can't keep someone locked up. In Europe theres a massive drinking culture and 13 and 14 year olds are always sneaking alcohol around behind their parents back. I dunno what it's like in other parts of the world but drinking at that age and smoking is normal. You can't blame the parents because parents can only give their kids guidence. The only person to blame is the 14 yer old kid because everyone grows up knowing that killing someone else is wrong, theres no excuse. Humans are kind natured and do want to be friendly and get along. Every country I've been to strangers are naturally friendly and want to get on and it's in our nature to know that killing other people is wrong. I could blame my parents for me getting drunk and into drugs at 14 and dropping outta school at 15 and getting addicted to mmorpgs and dropping outta college for Planetside. However I didn't because I knew what I was doing and I honly have myself to blame. |

Yeah people are friendly and all that as long as everything is going well, let's see how friendly people would be should society crumble. |
