www.massively.com/2009/05/04/new-player-elected-50-51-server-coming-to-everquest/ all characters will start at level 51 with 50 Achievement Ability points. There's no date on when the server will go live or on any restrictions regarding transfers but all is sure to be revealed in good time.

Thanks. But no thanks.
The real irony and tragedy is that leveling from 1 to 51 is the most fun for so many of us; those early stages of developing a character, learning a new class, and have demanding challenges.
Count me out of this one. |

Hah, exactly. The early part of the game was always the best part. Starting over with new characters was the only thing that kept me going the last couple of years I played EQ. What the heck is this new server going to accomplish? People who want to play the higher level game are the ones who never left EQ. So...what? Are the people who still play going to start over on a new server which starts them out close to the end anyway? Why would they? Are people who didn't like the high level game going to go back to this new server just so they can skip over the part of the game they actually liked? No. So what's the point? |

if I get bored I might go back for a month and start a Wizzie or a Beastlord but I don't like any of the new content past Ldon. Though DoN is one expansion I haven't seen and want to try. |

Now today not tomorrow not next week or next year.... that would mean NO SANKS...... |

Yeah, agree... This is a massive fumble by SOE... instead of selling new subs to returning players they have merely shifted their existing player base around. Genius. Only SOE could have screwed this up so badly. instead of waiting for SOE to give me the server I want, me and the GF are gonna give this a go on the test server... http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/234643/New-Classic-Progression-Guild.html ...and just play the kind of game I want with players of the same mindset. Any players that feel the same way (casual classic/ agreed progression) should come as well. We are just DLing now, so we will be as low as you. Give us a /tell :) |

Sad, but, honestly, just what I expect from SOE nowadays. They've been irrelevant for years, and with decisions like this its not hard to see why. |

they also said that EQ has a perma-death server?? |

This 51/50 server actually gets me interested in coming back to EQ again. I left EQ when my highest lvl toon was 65 (that was the max for that time) and he didn`t have 50 AA then. Thinking of starting a Beastlord or Bard with 50 AA right off the bat sounds really nice. Knowing how to play the toons wouldn`t be a problem for me. My worry would be that I have become spoiled by EQ2 and WoW (with their more casual playstyles). I know EQ has changed a lot over the years and I`d like to see just what all has been done. I guess I will probably fire up the Station account one more time once the 51/50 server goes live. |

No there was discussion of a potential new discord server with a little difference or something. They say they've got the code for this so thats why it's a possibility. |

Unfortunetly, the only reason why I would go back to playing EQ again would be to start over at 1st lvl and even then, only on a pvp server. PvP was the only reason why I kept playing for 4 years in the fist place. |

this news bothers me more than it probably should, 51/50 is likely the only thing that could have kept me from activating my old account. i guess this game is going to remain just a fond memory. |

I'm not surprised, if the decision was up for vote (those who have 'active' accounts) then the largest democratic of people are going to be your raiders. As much as I miss EQ as an 'Old School' player I'm not sure there is much SOE could do to bring me back, with the exception of another 60 day free play. Perhaps another Progression Server may have piqued some people's interest, however there isn't going to be much interest among the raiders who make up the majority of current subscribers.

It is an uncommonly silly concept for a server.
I can level from 1 to 50 with 55 AAs in a matter of a few hours.

So is the new server out right now? If it is, how is the population. I'd love to play if there were others playing on the server as well... |

It''s one thing to have a opinion, but enforcing one is unconstitutional. |
dont you get it, 51/50 won because there is NO ONE TO MAINTAIN A PROGRESSION SERVER. SoE has all but fired or the team has left because they get hammered due to the fact that there is NO SUPPORT for the game. They have a small team and there is no one to maintain a progression server with the existing servers and SoE would be damned if they hired someone new. So that is why you will never see a progression server why u will never see a classic server why you will never see any new server coming out of SoE's camp that isn't similar to the servers in place. |

It use to take a long time to lvl back when I played (2001 to 2004). Has SOE upped the xp gain in the game? To gain 50 lvl`s with 55 AA in a few hours would have to be some insane jump in experience. |

The short answer is YES. Remember the experience bonus in paludal caverns? They've expanded that idea through the levels with "hot zones" that change periodically. I am not sure about doing 51 in a few hours, but I am not an intense player. I have, however, done 1-40 or so in a couple of days, casually. And mostly solo-- I did get a group in a hot zone for about an hour. ... |

I could easily do 1 through 50 in a few hours with buffs and potions.
I have friends who can do even better than me.
I still cannot believe the "new" server is a 51/50 server. |

With potions and buffs, the sky's the limit. (Even I, queen of the periodic afk, soloed a cleric to level 43 in one day with Not-Even-Real-Temperance (pally buffs) and DS potions... OMG, I am such a DS potion addict.) Without buffs and potions... well, it's still not very hard. People who haven't played EQ in a long time are probably looking at the words "soloed" and "cleric" and wondering how they got into the same sentence. (LOL) ... |

LDoN, IMO, was the best expansion in EQ........I made more friends in LDoN than all other expansions combined......It brought players together and gave them reasons to group.......I liked having a goal and a time limit to achieve that goal........The point system gave players something to work for and alot of incentive.......As for 51/50, I wouldnt be interested either.....Most of my favorite zones were also the early ones like Crushbone, Unrest, Paludal, and Blackburrow. |

I have not played EQ for many years. I would have gave it a try again if they did a classic server with expansions up to but not including Planes of Power. |
