It's an interesting gesture. I'm sure Tasos appreciates it even if it is ultimately futile.

Now the site has a bad reputation among the 10k or so DFO players in the world.  The only thing that is futile is any future attempts at journalism from Ed Zitron.  Tasos owned him, now the server just owned him and Eurogamer.

Fixed that for you.

To be frank, Zitron did exactly what editorial writers are supposed to do: stir up enough debate to cause people to notice whatever publication they're representing.  Its not 'bad journalism' as many clueless people have claimed, its editorial/opinion writing.  He is under no obligation to present a fair and balanced view of the game (if there is such a thing), only to present his view.

Zitron is probably laughing at you as we speak.  Hardly 'owned.'

He is very much owned.  Even his boss is undermining him by allowing for another review with a different writer.  It's one thing to diss something, another thing entirely different when you falsify information.  I pity the fools who trust this guy.

You aren't very bright are you?

He is offering to have another writer reveiw the game to validate Ed, who the editor backs 100%.

You must be young.  Read between the lines.  He is obviously putting up a front.  If he really backed Zitron, their wouldn't be a second review.  I can't believe some of you people.

Actually, he is providing another source to validate Ed's review.

Why do you think people have multiple witnesses at court cases, for more EVIDENCE AND SUPPORT.

This is what the enitre server thought of Eurogamer's review......

For the number of times that SOE has destroyed the game I loved, even after it was very clear it was not what the majority wanted, I feel that they should start making donations to us- Paradox (SWG)

I love being pedantic, so I'm going to. This is why these types of games won't be made in the future. Hardcore PVPers are in the same situation republicans are in. Their base is old, shrinking and xenophobic. The majority of gamers brought up on anything post WoW don't care about 'HardCore PVP'.  And behavior like this tells the money people in a publisher/developer that the community a 'HC PVP' game would attract would be very difficult to manage. Since in an open PVP system you always need a victim and preptual losers tend to quit...

It doesn't matter what the intent is; it looks bad.

The reviewer didnt need more than 3 or 9 hours to give out the review.

Graphics: Will be the same no matter how many years you play.

Gameplay: The Core gameplay: Movement, attacking, interacting, etc will not change no matter how many years you play.

Sound: Wont change

Replayability: In this game it wont change, every opinion-review and review about the game talk about the same problem so it wont change.

Story: There is no story.

Doing pvp a later levels will still be the same as low levels, you just have different weapons and spells.

If the gameplay felt absurd and non responsive then at later levels in wont change.

You see, reviewing mmos is sometimes alot easier than other type of games, its like reviewing racing games. After 3 minutes of playing you know the game will stay the same.

I still want to TRY the game so that I can either laugh with you zealous darkfallers or laugh at you.

If thats a classic server moment, im glad I havent even TRIED to buy this game yet, probably never will as its obvious the whole community is made up of tasos clones wearing diapers that poop thier pants anytime anyone says anything negative about thier precioussssss........

Don't be so daft. People are not upset about his opinion. They are upset that he had limited play time with a bunch of incorrect information to base this opinion on, essentially making it worthless.

Im sorry Darkfalrocks (PS your forum name pretty much labels your bias instantly, just thought you should know) but previous evidence provided by the hardcore darkfall fanbase supports the fact that most of the players take negative opinions about thier game VERY hard.....like epically hard. There is no recovering from the blind babbleing of the "playerbase" over the last couple years of development, basicaly praiseing that lunatic tasos like a living god.... lol

Darkfall is a horrible game with overly defensive fangirls who will obey their masters in the hopes of a patch to fix one of the plethora of gameplay and mechanics issues.  Wow, a trade channel!  You guys.... you are so nice to us.  And coloring enemies in red, while at the same time coloring allies in green?  What a generous gift you gave to us, a half playable game months too late.

The 2.0 is an insult to fine games such as The Sims 2 Christmas Party Pack and Toon Car, both of which only received a score of 1 on Eurogamer.net.

It really does speak volumns.

I'm not sure where your getting the information on the game being dead.  Yeah it has one server, but a very active thriving server.

With that kind of behaviour, its more like childish.  Immaturity is too soft to describe such behaviour.  Active?  Yeah actively QQing.  The game itself cannot entertain the whatever number of people still logged on?  The game features does not suck people in?  People having to find entertainment outside the game?

If some reviewer give Eve a 2/10, I believe most of the Eve gamer will just do what they do everyday, play and enjoy the game.  Sad.  This shows how childish the DF community is, how bored the game is, and how totally non-entertaining DF offers.

Hilarious.

Yep!  Bunch of 16 year olds rallying behind their savior!  A social study should be done of the 5k people playing Darkfall.  Let them read/watch Lord fo the Flies...   then show them a 4 year old PlanetSide and ask them: "Where did you fail?"

ROTFL....

I don't play this game (though I might) and I don't consider myself a fanboy either but I sure feel sorry for you and your inability to appreciate this mass uproar about that weak excuse for a 'review' on Eurogamer.

Sure, to some folks DF might be a 2/10. But for anyone with a remote idea of how proper journalism is done that reviewer should get a 2/10 as well.

You know, I don't know where people got the idea that reviews should be unbiased.  You read a review looking for a reason to play or not play.  The best way to form an opinion of your own (without performing the action yourself) is to learn about others' experiences.

Ed is certainly biased.  I think it's funny that he writes about twich-based combat as universally accepted as bad in an MMO environment.  None-the-less, his DF review was honest and opinionated.  It's not inaccurate or overly harsh.

Maybe if he put a big disclaimer at the beginning - "Hi, I'm Ed and I like traditional MMOs like LOTRO.  DF was not built for people like me, but I reviewed it anyways." would set the fanboys at ease.

I personally would give DF a 2/10.  Coincidentally, the same score I'd give Dark and Light.  I reserve scores like 4/10 for games that stink but were complete like Tabula Rasa.

For reference - I'd give:

AoC a 5/10 for having a ton of potential but failing to deliver

WoW a 8/10 for being rock-solid on what it does, despite not being my cup of tea

DDO a 6/10 for being DDO...an almost MMO that wears MMO clothing

SWG a 7/10 for being a great game with a ton of bugs and balance issues

SWG NGE a 4/10 for doubling the crappiness of the original SWG

LOTRO a 7/10 for being almost as good as WoW at being WoW

The original Neverwinter Nights on AOL a 9/10 because it was unique and offered what I didn't think was technically possible at the time.  the 1/10 was with-held due to the 500(eventually 750) space server.

Tasos own something?  Childish QQing is all you can think of as a proof you own something?  Oh dear, even a child will learn to move on after falling on the floor and crying a bit.  There are more toys elsewhere to play than stamping the floor and keep crying because you fall and hurt.

Even a baby beats the EQ of everyone in this soap opera.  Now what kind of ppl make and play DF?

Ah I understand, there is no life in life, there is no life inside DF either, the only life left to boost your ego, go after EG!!!!!

How to go after EG!!!! declare war on EG inside a game EG won't bother about and just about no one bother either.

When Russia invade USA, what do you do?  Declare war against Russia!!! How?  Inside DF!!!!

When the economy flopped, what do you do? Declare war against recession!!! How? Inside DF!!!!

When the sky start raining, what do you do? Declare war against the cloud!!! How? Inside DF!!!!

When it gets cold, what do you do? Declare war against the thermometer!!! How? Inside DF!!!!

Now everything is alright, as you have taken care of everything by declaring war inside DF.  What else can you do?  Declare war against what next?

This is about the supidest thing I have seen in a long time and makes me wonder what the world is really coming to.

After this little incident I wouldn't give Tasos and comopany a dime.  Like someone else said, this just shows how unprofessional the company really is, if one of the guilds involved is indeed an inhouse guild.

This is just not the way you handle something like this!!!

That sure quieted down the threads a whole lot :)

I encourage anyone else interested in DF to do the same. Ignore the haters until they leave.

Here is some homework.  Click on both Benthon's and Lidane's post history.  Check out their opinions about Darkfall, before it even launches, so you can get a good reflection on them for now.   Notice a similar pattern  between them and many people who already prejudged Darkfall before it released.

Most of the people, like these two, have a preconceived notion and always seemed to take what Tasos said out of context, or exaggerated things he said to make them sound alot bigger than what they actually were, or mean alot more than what they really meant.

It's sad really.  How people could hate on other people and games so bad, especially things they never really tried or never really followed.   I suspect that for many of these people, like those two, it's all abou hearsay, rumors or secondhand information that was butchered to mean other things.

Now, we have a debate that a terrible review that was obviously, glaringly full of bias  is good or bad... kinda reminds me of the fact that people were arguing that potential customers are the same thing as customers.  I can only question when humanity's intelligence started de-evolving.  Isn't evolution suppose to work forward, not backwards, or is there some hidden thing in nature that contradicts our own thinking of what evolution is?

 Hahaha

Burn the witches! For they have spoken foul blasphmey against the most Holy Tasos and the holy grail Darkfall.

But whats really funny is watching you defend Tasos. What part of we will not take pre-orders is out of context? What part of We will not make a release date we won't keep, or that Darkfall will be released in 2008, and then Jan 15th is hearsay, or rumor? There are and have been many threads with exact word for word quotes from old tasos king of misinformation himself posted here do i really have to post them again and make you look like a ... <sigh> nevermind your not worth the ban. though i must thank you for the laugh that you could possibly question anyone elses intelligence.
