PROS - Sandbox mmo, you do what you want when you want. - Hundreds of players fighting against each other (which is why the graphics aren't over the top). - A big open world with no instances and full looting. You can kill a player anywhere outside of the starter towns. - Fast twitch based combat system. - No auto aiming, you actually have to aim your attacks with FPS style precision. - Loot anyone's corpse whether it be a mob or player. Just because someone kills a mob doesn't mean the loot is theirs (evil laugh). - You can truly be good or evil. - You don't have to do a single quest. - Killing mobs is always fun and never boring because everytime you go out there is the risk/thrill of losing everything on your back. - Banking matters. - Player killers are back in business. - Crafting is extremely important, player made weapons are better than mob drops the way it should be. - You can message anyone you want. - If you are skilled you can take on multiple players at once. - PVP takes practice. If you're good at pvp you can kill someone stronger than you since you practiced more. - The best mmo to play with your clan. - Sieging cities/hamlets is extremely fun and challenging. CONS - Not for casual gamers at all. - Game is very difficult and very challenging, too advanced for the average joe (i'm not being condescending, the game is pretty tough pvp wise.) - The game requires a lot of morale. I usually just lurk here on the DF forums (for the entertainment value - Not for casual gamers at all. (Okay, fair enough) - Game is very difficult and very challenging, too advanced for the average joe (i'm not being condescending, the game is pretty tough pvp wise.) (Just another way of saying that those that play DF are somehow better then your "average" player? Or that due to crappy design the game is harder then it needs to be? Can go either way...) - The game requires a lot of morale. (No idea what you mean here.) - People coming from carebear games like wow, swg, eq with no real mmo experience will have no idea what to do in the game and simply die over and over again. If you haven't played UO, Darktide or even shadowbane then you better be prepared for a very harsh existence. (First you start by calling other games "carebear" games (a fav tactict around the DF forums) and why does playing these games constitues as not having "real" mmo experience?) Sorry for the rant but, next time, list some actual "Cons" of the game instead of stating why those that play DF are superior to you "average joe".
Back to lurking......

I agree, this review is complete garbage. It's not even really a review, just someone trying to stroke their own ego. It is wrapped in friendly words but underneath the wrapping paper you can clearly see this reviewer is saying the same thing as hardcore fanboys: "This game is for hardcore elitest PvP players that played Shadowbane and UO". My favorite part is how you claim playing WoW and EQ means you don't have any real gaming experience. I wish threads like these would be removed, it's nothing but e-peen stroking themselves. And one final thought, as an example... when you say things like "No offense but your face looks like a horses ass", people normally still get offended. Just a thought to ponder. |

Kakaski, if you had any real MMO experience you'd realize carebear is a term used by alot of gamers from different MMOs, please go somewhere else.. Eric "Rileyman" Grushinski |

I liked it, short and to the point : ) Even Tasos told us many times he knew DF players would be more skilled then the usual PvE player. They had that in mind when they made DF. I have no opinion about that statement. |

As was said before, the OP was was basically an exercise in gratuitous self indulgence very poorly packaged up as a "review". When you can't point out "cons" for a game without resorting to typical fanboy mantras like "people coming from carebear games", then you fail as a reviewer and your bias is pretty obvious.

More skilled at what? FPS combat? Sure, probably so. Doesn't mean they are actually smarter at combat, or better at combat, nor could they complete even the easiest of raids in WOW, let alone EQ style raids. Agree with others, OP is not a review, but a fanboi post with the usual blah about why DF is so great, and lacking in any real concrete minuses, (like the graphic quality, lag, lack of PVE content, and any of half a dozen other complaints we all know about) like the game is perfect or something. A review done with rose colored glasses on isn't a review, its an advertisement only.

Mike, I'm tired of it! The OP says himself "You can message anyone you want." in the game! Can't you understand how hardcore that is? Go play a game with a disabled chat feature, n00b. And seriously, in a game where "Banking matters", how can you expect anything but haters to troll around these forums and try to ruin the games existence. Just go away, Mike, I have banking to do, and guess what... it matters. |

any kid who compares wow to Dfo is truly a 12 year old kid.
Wow is a skating ring, DFO is a strip club. |

I dont get it, he is basically doing what EvE players have been doing and saying for years.. About how "hardcore" their game is and how it only frustrates people who aren't "hardcore" enough for so called "real" pvp where you can lose your items and stuff.. Stroking ones E-peen is something that happens so often on MMORPG.com forums that, seriously, does it deserve such negative responses? Every so called "PvP" game has this kind of thing happen. I don't see Darkfall as being a sandbox, I think it is much more of a game like WW2 Online. A combat simulation. I have been trying to buy it and see for myself, but from everything I have been reading and videos I have been watching , all I see is conflict. Sure you can mine and craft (for economic purposes obviously but it doesn't seem like it was the focal point in the game, nor does the actual CONTROL of the gameworld by its players as in something like Wurm Online where land can be altered.) Seeing as this is how I view the game, I don't see any of the players being anymore "hardcore" than the guys I headshot in Call Of Duty World At War.. “There are dread secrets that none may know and have peace. More, secrets that render whosoever knoweth them an alien unto the tribe he belongs to, that cause him to walk alone on earth, for he who takes, pays.” -E. Hoffmann Price |

Terrible review. I reads as a typical DF community fanboi post. if someone were on the fence about trying this game this review would certainly turn people away especially calling people names. Shows the DF community continues to lack maturity and needs to grow up. Bad review...bad post. Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR. |

In darkfall you have to Aim??? omg yes Aim like in a FPS. now you might be hurting in the head thinking hmm but isnt that hard and not easy. and it is Harder then auto aim system which requires you to push 1 to 2 buttons while your targets highlighted in your range. its not a gear or lvl grind its a grind to get Skill. Now i know your mind thinks Skill like STR, DEX, Stam. No Skill as in playing and fighting skill actually being Good att he game not your weapon skill level or anything else that dosnt matter barely at all. So there you go Ricky i tried to break it down for someone like you to understand. i hope we didnt over work ya have fun in crayon drawling class Ricky. Mortal Online/EarthRise/Project V13 |

Both require you to kill stuff with swords or magic... They do have a lot in common even though they are as far from eachother as fantasy MMOs can be, or at least almost. Still, try to explain all the differences to you grandmother and youll find out that all MMOs have a lot in common even if they have a lot of different features and offer a very different gameplay. Skating rings and strip clubs have some things in common too, like they both bore me. |

I may still try DFO when they have a free trial but if its anything like a strip club I don't expect I will stay very long.

Hmm, this should be tested, we need a Strip club and Skating ring MMO. Or even better combine the 2 and have Strippers on Skates!! YAY! |
