I was wondering how the experience was for solo play, duos, and parties? what would you say would be the best for leveling up when you finish your quests and need to grind the rest of the level

"you play to win the game!" - Herm

5/02/09 2:49:41 PM#27

I had a few questions as well.

1) What is the chat setup like? Are there different panels for chat? can u customize the chat UI? Also is chat restricted to a zone or is it server wide, respective of the race of course.

2) Is there a guild progression system in AION? Someting remenicient of EQ2 or similiar?

3) Are there factions or reputations to grind?

4) Are there unique wing designs that you can get from boss drops, abyss points or even craftable wings?

Thanks for the info

1) There are 4 tab's above the chat window and you can customize each tab ( make one General chat, Party chat, Legion chat, Alliance chat) or you can add new tab's (you can change the color of each chat font).

2) You can make a Legion at lvl10 and it cost around 12,500 In-game gold (not very much). lvl1 Legions can have 1-30 people, lvl2 is 1-60 people and lvl3 can have up to 90 people. If a Legion or Your Alliance controls a fortress you get 20mil gold right off the bat and then you collect taxes via AH and Teleports I think.  Also there are special NPC merchants that only controlling legions or Alliances can use.

3) Not that I'm aware of besides the controlling of the fortresses.

4) I think there are a total of 4 wing upgrades that can only be bought from an NPC.  I don't think they drop from any mobs or can be crafted at this time.

Doing the elite mob area's are impossible to do solo unless you are 10  lvls higher than the mobs (for most classes) and if you do that the EXP reward is very low. Best to have a very good party mix at the same lvl as the mobs and try to not aggro too many.(they drop the best gear and give the highest exp lvl wise).

Solo play:  In Korea its a lot less grind because they have a newer version and there are more quest in there client. (I can get 1/2 to 3/4 of my exp per lvl just doing quest and most are not long and drawn out process to do (some quest need a party to complete). China's client is missing a few quest so there is more grinding involved, best to grind on mobs 2 lvls higher than you if you can for your class.

(note) some classes have a harder time pve grinding than others, these classes should grind on mobs there lvl or 1 lvl lower (more effective for them that way).

Duo play: find and grind on mobs way higher than your lvl that are not elites or else your exp will be too low. With a duo you should have no problems grinding on higher lvl mobs.

Note: I made 6 char's in Korea to lvl35. So how the game plays out above that I do not know.

ok so the best way to lvl is to have a group to fight elites that are at the same level as you? also what level can you start fighting elites to start leveling up?

and do you think that duoing would be faster even though you dont get as good of items?

I have a question about the world,

1) is it large and open, large but like Wow, meaning broke up into play areas, or Aoc like, with little exploration?

2) Is there weather? is it dynamic?

Best way to lvl is to do the quest (as much as you can for your lvl) then deside how you will augment your exp. Most will solo but people that have friends or are in a guild will go group quest and team up to fight higher lvl mobs.

Example: lvl28 player soloing lvl30 mob will get around 12k per kill, Duo fighting the same mob will get 6k but will kill fast and take less down time. But the duo can go kill lvl36 (2 dot) mobs and get better exp. I would just do what you like doing best.

You will start seeing elites very early on the 2nd map (lvl10-20). There lvl17,18,19, and 20 elites but I would wait until you are lvl24 before you take on these mobs.

1) first 2 maps are small (lvl1-lvl10) and (lvl10-lvl20). After that the maps are large with players ranging from lvl20 to lvl35 or so before moving on to more higher lvl content. The people in the abyss range from lvl25 to max cap.

2) there is weather and yes it's dynamic.

I would also like an answer to the above question if possible.

Also how many toons per server, same faction of course?

How are the guild control options, are there guild banks and such? Is there a way in game to set up guild events?

Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there,
80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters.
Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior,
and he will bring the others home.

@Geriden: No it's nothing like AoC or WAR, the only loading screens you see are when you teleport between zones and your faction's main city. It's much closer to WoW in that respect than AoC and WAR which are chopped up. You hardly see any loading screen for hours, and when you do it lasts a couple of seconds (most of the times I don't have time to read the tip on it ) and doesn't kill the immersion, IMO at least.

@Enforcer:  You can create 8 characters on a server from the same faction. Concerning guilds, there's all the normal stuff like ranks, guild history, self intro, announcements etc. Yes there's a guild bank (Legion warehouse) for which you need permission to use. The interface looks nice and is easy to use.

I don't know much about guild events, maybe someone else can answer this!

Actually I have a few more question for any one that can answer. After a watching a few vids today, there were somethings that I had not thought about.

Bag Space: how does this works? WoW or LOTRO style, e.g. by bags (items) to increase space or does it grow when you lvl up?

UI button bars: How many do you get and are they customizable?

MODS: Is there any word regarding will be allowed?

Forgot one more thing! Will there be specialized servers e.g. RP, RPPVP etc

Thanks again!!

Bag Space, there are these slots call cubes that you can purchase, so you simply buy more slots. Slots are rows of items you can buy, there is no "Weight" on anything I believe, I'm not sure on any stacking restrictions except you can only stack consumables. In the end it looks like you can have ALOT of bag space, I haven't had trouble yet with bag space at level 15 and never deposited anything into the warehouse.

There are 4 UI bars, maybe I'm wrong but it consisted of 1 to = and then Alt and Ctrl of the same and I'm not sure what the last bar is bound to.

Not sure about Mods, but this isn't WoW. No mods available yet, but there really hasn't been need for a mod yet. Mods just dumb down the game IMO.

There hasn't been server types yet, all servers are the same same as L2.

Thanks for this thread. I have a few (I apologize if they have been asked before):

- What sort of guild customization / identification? Guild cloaks, standards, banners, or anything?

- Is leveling slow / fast / just right? I know it probably gets slower as you get higher up, but is it too easy? or too long/hard?

Thanks.

The guilds are called Legions and there are guild cloaks, if you keep guild cloaks turned on you WILL be recognized fairly easily for which guild you belong to. Thats another thing, you can turn helmets/cloaks on or off.

Leveling seems just right, however the difference in classes is astounding... it still hits the points on what each class are good at. For example my Scout from 1-10 took twice as long as my Wizard. I never died on the Wizard but died 4 times on the Scout. So far it seems almost the quality of a single player rpg in terms of grind. There are plenty of cutscenes and the leveling is quest driven.

It's not Lineage 2, NCSoft plans to continue the Lineage franchise, they aren't going to compete with their own Niche. Aion does feel like a bit of WoW, DAoC and L2.

WoW because of the questing element, and it does everything right that WoW did with it's grind. DAoC because thats what the endgame will feel like, in the Abyss. Lineage 2 because well, it's NCSoft and it's evident some of their design team moved over to this project.

I've been playing the chinese free trial the past 2 days and i just have to say its too easy...

for death,i dont notice any exp loss on death or corpse runs. Theres only a minor stat penalty that lasts 2 minutes.

theres also no need for grouping really since its easy to take down mobs +1,2 levels above you. and even when you do group the exp penalty isnt worth it, its more effecient to solo :(

tell me it gets much much harder for the later levels because the way i see it now, its just a mob slaughter fest with no risk

... there is an exp penalty, 5%. although you can buy it back at the soul healer. if you can kill a mob 2 levels higher than you, good for you. at least it's not a 2 button mashing fest like wow leveling.

What class are you playing?
what level were you when you made this post?

Some mobs 2 levels above my Assassin will kick my ass... others go down easy.
The real problem is social mobs that bring friends or aggro-able mobs walk up on me while fighting another...

you do lose xp on death. I tested it on a level 7 toon.... I lost 1047 xp (about 3%) on death... I was able to buy back 657 xp (about 63% of what I lost)
The debuff gets longer as you level, and so does the amount xp you lose.... and the cost to restore some of the lost xp.
That Debuff cuts you xp gain in half...

First off thanks for this thread. It really helps those of us who want a better picture of the game!

My question is about crafting. I'm really enjoying the crafting system in LoTRO because it has reasonable depth and usable as you level your character. Does Aion provide a decent crafting system, can you make items that are actually useful at all levels, or is it like WoW where only items crafted after max tier is reached are useufl? Plus (I'm being lazy here) can you please list the types of crafting?

Also is there a guild house?
