....... change resolution crashes my PC then client decides to re-patch itself another 4 hours,then on launching the game a error message tells me I dont have Darkfall Installed, Re-install Patch all over again ( and dont dare try to change the resolution).

I will just add at this point that the community in general chat seemed extemley helpful with comments and suggestion ( except for the occasional " Get a new Pc you **** Tard comment ") so that at least made me feel a little better.

... some time later whoopee finally get it working , after 5 minutes learning the interface and finding my first quests and getting killed a couple of times ( which was kinda funny ) game starts to lag and ping goes up to record levels up to 200k ! . quit the game (starting get that pit of your stomach feeling whenyou think you've totally wasted your money now ) .....

.... some time later and after a quick session on Burn Zombie Burn I return to my PC feeling refreshed and optomistic and launch Darkfall yet again.

..... whats this wooot ! it seems to be working and the lag has gone hooray !!

..... some time later after gleefully feeling I was getting the hang it doin my fist few quests and getting some nice starter gear  I head just outside the starter area packed lunch in hand I start chipping away at some trees and rocks. With the warm sun on my back and the nice Ding Ding of my Stats starting to rise, I'm starting to feel all that stress is behind me ...... and then

....... Ganked ! 

Ok I tell my self picking my bloodstained body of the floor this is a PVP game after all bound to get Murdered occasionally...

so I forgive my Murderer and start all over again get some new gear and set out again..

so hey after all the hassle of getting this game actually working I know its a PVP game and I know your going to get killed alot.

But waiting around outside starter areas Ganking new players seems stupid to me , all it achieved was getting me frustrated and hitting the quit button.

Anyway going to give it another go later and see if I can get further than 100 yards outside the gate !

And to those that just sprout " Welcome to Darkfall " .... I'm not really feeling it Dudes

This is why Im more of a fan of faction vs faction.   FFA is brutal.   Minding your business and someone walks up and pisses  on your shoe.  Totally uncalled for and extremely upsetting.  

I always hope for a FvF mmo to come out.

Another Update a few hours later ... logged in and Ping was now at an astonishing 480,000 !! Holy Crap I've never ever seen a Ping like that before, " Sigh" Back to Spellborn for abit and will try again later.

Ps I've never had a Ping Problem before except on Conan at launch.

Two of my friends have had the same ping issue as you experienced. They were both disconnected when it happend. It have not happend to me.... yet. But my friends Teamspeak server also crached at the same time!

Getting ganked is a pain in the ass. But if you take every gank as a lesson, not to do the same mistake twice. You will soon be fighting people and they will run from you instead : )

Do your harvesting/mining naked, stupidest thing i ve ever heard come out of a MMO players mouth. Nice char progression. This game encourages it too, lol give me a break. And yes I ve played it so I know how lousy it is.

Something wrong then, have been playing from day one and ping is pretty much set at 50-62.(Manchester) You seem to be getting a bad deal as getting ganked in starter areas is so easy to avoid not sure what you are doing wrong. Unless you just stand and don't fight.

Fight back most gankers are just lame cowards :)

Another update Re-booted my router and it seems to have worked ( for now anyway ) pings gone right the way back down to 60-80, took some of the advice especially about the naked one lol.

Went out naked slaughtered a few Goblins to get enough gold to re-buy my Axe and Mining Pick. Finished the Blacksmiths quest and have just purchased my first pair of Tongs ! 40 Gold tho !! Pair of Smithy tongs more expensive than a Sword wtf ! lol.

and the Lo and behold I just finished my first Iron Ingot and Server go's down for maintenance Doh !

Anyways thanks for handy tips guys ... oh and one more thing . How do sell the Ingots and stuff I've made and what is the best way to early Gold Killin or Craftin ? 

Ps a couple of people did try to Gank me again but I just Ran like the wind !!

My m8 who plays with me has ping issues as well. He uses BT, BT are shit tbh...

 In general we the "PKs" seem to try and help out newbies, I certainly do. The "Get a new PC **** Tard" only works for a short while until someone quits....and its not healthy for the game.

Even with faction based PvP ive run into a lot of people that do  stuff like that.   You got high level guys waiting around in the first full PvP zones and kill you and camp your corpse.  Lets face it any PvP game there will always be someone that likes to grief the noobs or lower level characters.  As for me I will try to kill anyone even if they are lower level than me, but I kill them once and go on with my business, which everyone should do IMHO.

Just because you know that someone will spawn at a point or come back to get there corpse dosen't mean you should sit and camp them and kill them repeatedly.

You cant play any open PvP game without being ganked, only arenastyled PvP games dont have gankers.

I think you got the wrong game, open PvP is not something for everyone.

As for the long time to get it down, you can always use this torrent link if you get any problem with the official one.

darkfall is a mix of faction vs faction and free for all really, you can do either. maybe its the race you played but virtually none of the elves ever tried to gank me, couple who did I killed whilst they went grey. only time I really got ganked was when groups of enemy races rode into starting areas killing everyone outside the city walls, and thats your just like your regular faction pvp server action really.

edit: yeah I reckon alot of humans are gankers, you could always just travel to elf or dwarf cities without having to change race. and also BT are shite.

For what it's worth, im also in the UK with Virgin and regularly get the 200,000+ ping in this game. Doesnt happen in AO, Spellborn or EQ2 though.

Never managed to fix it, our AO clan were all UK players anbd most of us had this problem, most of us were with virgin, BT, and Sky. Darkfall Support said it was the UK ISP's at fault and not to log another ticket "moaning!" lol. We have all just gone to try out spellborn. If you manage to fix it let us know!

The ganking will never go away.  For some reason there are people who believe ffa pvp = "I can be an ass and gank whoever I want, whenever I want, as many times as I want".  "I can camp lowbies and kill them repeatedly!" 

You must understand op, the simple minded are easily amused.

Ok, it sounds as though you have gotten the ping thing situated on your own. A definite plus due to Aventurines customer service being non-existent.

On to the issue of being new within the world of Agon. It seems you have experienced possibly the number one frustration in Darkfall. Getting ganked while your just trying to get ahead. Sometimes for me it was like two steps forward and one step back. Taking solace in the fact that they cannot take away the skills you gain is tough because they sure can take everything else.

Aventurine has changed a lot of things to accommodate the new player, from launch until a couple weeks ago it was incredibly brutal. I don't know how many times I clicked on the quit button in a fit of nerd rage only to be back at it thirty minutes later. Time to put on the thick skin because you are going to get ganked and the only thing you can do is learn from it.

When I got jumped by a single guy, even two, and got killed by being out played I usually just shook my head and moved on. It's when you get rolled by 10 guys on mounts and don't have a chance was when it got me really mad for some reason. I dunno. On to the things I have learned over the last couple months.

~Safety in numbers. I constantly hear "Join a guild as fast as you can." I understand the logic but it's not necessary by any means. To me the safety in numbers means when those 10 guys on mounts appear, if there are three other people around that means there is a 25 percent chance that you'll be the one they go after first. More time to escape.....this is what its all about when your vastly out numbered.

~Always wear something. I believe (I could be mistaken) Aventurine nerfed being neked at some point. Always wear at least one piece of armor because the damage between being neked and very slightly armored is substantial.

~Mounts are life savers. I always have one on my toolbar ........ always. Tough to swallow when you lose a mount but you get used to it. Learn to ride and ride well. This means if you ride in a straight line from an enemy shooting arrows or magic you will go down. Learn to dodge and jump when escaping.
*Get a sickle and go herbing. Spend time building up your steedgrass supply so you have many mounts in the bank. It lessens the pain from a lost mount. Lots of people carry around more than one mount so if one goes down they quickly whip out another.

~Spend some time straightening out your key-bindings. The one that always got me was the shift key sprinting. When you want to sprint you hold down the shift key, the use keys in your tool bar are 1-9 ....... easy enough, right. You want to switch to your bow and you press 2 for example. It just so happens when you want to change to another tool bar ..... eg. toolbar#1, toolbar#2 ..... etc. You hold down the shiftkey and press that number. Soooo ....... I would be sprinting from someone and want to whip out my bow. I'd hit the 2 key and nothing would happen, again, again ......nothing ....... wtf. Look over and my toolbar is empty .......WTF! I'd die, lose all my stuff ..... be pissed. I had switched to toolbar#2 because I was sprinting with the shift key. I found changing the toolbars to the "F" keys worked much better for me. Just spend time to make it comfortable .... quick reactions are key.

~Always, always, always ...... be aware of your surroundings. If you are fighting gobbys, mid fight look up and look around 360 degrees, take an extra hit from the goblin if you have to. Look around and try to position yourself for a quick get away. As you fight in the same place for a while you will notice that the enemies always come from same direction or two. Remember that, and never give them an opportunity for an easy kill.

~Don't always run. If you turn your back to an slew of arrows you will go down. The damage taken to your back is alot more than the front. I always felt better when I stood my ground and put up a fight even though I knew I was gonna die. Maybe I could take out a mount or even kill one of them. I didn't ...... but I felt better about it.

Anyway, OP....you may want to save your ingots, and use them to craft yourself armor and weapons to replace what you lose when you get ganked. Otherwise, wait until you get a stack of 100 to sell them, and you'll make a nice bit of gold.

If you DO join a clan...GTFO of the starter city and to your clan's city. Otherwise, clans like "Gank and Bank" will wait until you are crafting or banking, declare war on your guild, and gank you right in town.

I understand what your saying here and yes I understand that this is a pretty Hardcore PVP game ... but its still going to have to have some rules/changes if its going to really sucessful.

I've persevered I 've take advice of some help people especially here on these forums. I am trying get my character up to a reasonable level so I can hold my own,run faster ,have a better chance of survival etc. Hell I was even naked killin a couple of goblins and got Ganked by two people on mounts in full Armour. The individuals that were on these mounts have Ganked me on 3 ocassions now, I had no chance to run no way I could fight back and was killed in about two or three strikes ! these were certainly quite power players because even as a new player I could tell by there mounts and Armour. They were repeatedly coming back to the same newbie area and killing everyone and they were doing it over a period of few hours, for what gain tho I have no idea as I said I was naked and had little gear.

I'm not askin not to have Ganking in the game that would be ridiculous , I would just like to have chance to build a character to decent level so I can put up a good fight back.

Anyway even despite being ganked repeatedly I have to say I think I'm going to enjoy Darkfall alot , I personall feel it has huge potential and could possibly become one of the best Mmo's ever.

Its sort of like ... yeah its all Virtual and stuff but , it kinda seems that you can actually feel the game if that makes sense to anyone .. or maybe I'm just a soft headed old git ! 

This game has no levels yay, but it has hundreds of skills and each one of them will be like leveling a maxed out char ala wow. And 1 guy vs guy who had skilled up will totaly pwn u. It really is the worst grind game i have ever crossed. My Eldrich sphere takes ages to skill up, first i have to grind and harvest for mats to use it. only that takes FOREVER. and then i can shoot my sphere x100 (100 Sulfur takes to gather HOURS) and gain a small amount of skill up = +0.5, And i have to rest between becourse it eats mana and i have to rest for 2 minutes. to shoot 100 of them will take n hour. Amagad that only 1 skill. Im out of that game let the chinease wannabe farmer play that game lowl

 EDIT: I also want to point out that there are a couple of ppls making small guilds. They go towns and look for crafters and ppl going to bank stuff etc etc. Makes war with people in other guilds so they can gank them in "safe" towns and loot them. They killing every guild player out there and taking them smart 4vs1 etc etc, Aiming at crafter and geared up players. They bank there stuff and ecape fast from town to another town and do the same thing, When they got to many enemie clans they disband the clan ore leave it and make another. Do the same greifing so they can override the rouge status they will take in towns. They do this over n over. Also alot of 1 MAN army, that will follow you, but u see him as friendly. then u gathered alot the will make war against ur clan so he can kill u.

There also where before, if u was in clan war an fought a guy in town, just quit the clan and yo will go blue and he will get killed by guard towers.

I can say with my hand on my heart that the community is bad, ALOT of players try to make u go rouge for no reason at all(run infront of u and mob), just to be as mean as they can. They steal loots from u. everything in there power they will make it a living hell to play it for you.

And the grind. have i told ya about it?=), i playd a week, this is wat i have been doing. Grind, gathering and ganked. Grind gobs grind skills grind grind grind. Ganked and i gankes one. grind skilling up grind and a guild make war against us just so they coult take my shiny armour and 100 timber  then they ran off. Then they come back with other clan name and hide behind crafter npc, ganked again and lost 400gold + lots of mats.  Abusing the war fare system to maximim like ALMOST every other darkfall player would do

And cheaters. lowl who is not using macro? and RADAR cheat. U cant almost not hide from griefers they will see u on radar. hat about those who are at ur back all the time, even if i turn around they ALWAYS are at my back stabbing me, i have 100% no chance  to even hit them. Wtf is tht cheat must be new.

And GUI, i wont even dont wana type about it. I say this 'LOOL'.
