Is how schitzo the client is. I'm having a lot of fun playing, but can someone tell me how it's possible for me to run Age of Conan on high and have it run great, and have this game lag and stutter on all medium? It runs fine until I get into larger battles or try to PvP. That, and I get CtD's sometimes whenever I try to change certain aspects of the graphics (I can eventually get it to work).

But the game is really fun. I love the combat system. I just wish it'd run better on my system, which I know isn't THAT bad since I can run AOC on high. :(

Lag has NOTHING to do with graphics.....

Well, not lag, but stuttering. And if my connection is bad, then I don't see why this is the only game that does this ...

Oh well, hopefully I figure it out eventually. u_u

Who is more the troll? The troll or those who feed them?

Lag is a pretty ambigious word in that it's tough to tell if you're referring to network latency or frame rate.

Personally, I've never had any problem with either, on the PvP server, even in the busier zones, and supposedly the PvP server is the busier server.

However, other people complained about the lag over the zone chat, so I can only assume their computers are too outdated to run it at their detail setting.  (I did a major upgrade overhaul about a year ago, so I'm sitting pretty.)

Try lowering detail settings first, is my advice.

Kinda...but not.  One makes things warp around...the other slows things but still shows you what's going on....

(is that a good explanation for non techs?)

When I first installed the game it stuttered alot to, not sure if it was my graphics or my connection or what, though with the graphics turned up I still stuttered alot

Within the last 2 or 3 weeks though the game has been running extremely silky smooth for me, no idea why but i've got no reason to complain. :)

Your in the The Chronicles of the spell born forum asking why your Age of conan game has bad lag.

Give it a bit for updated driver releases that provide more support and perfromance as well as server side patches to increase stability for OS. This game is built around the Unreal3 Engine so there are a lot of visualation tweaks you can perform manually on your end.

I don't think it's just a problem with outdated computers.  I'm having a bit of it too, nothing major but still there.  Get CTD's sometimes espeically going through portals.  My computer isn't the very latest but it's fairly recent and way beyond the minimum requirements for this game.  I do have a quad processor, maybe that's part of the problem.

The TCoS client isn't as well optimized as the AoC client. Its just something we will have to deal with.

I did notice that the TCoS client is very CPU dependent. A recent CPU upgrade I did made a huge difference in performance.

A lot of people have seen an increase in performance by turning off the Hardware support in the Audio option... and you might try updating your sound card drivers as well. People always seem to keep the video card drivers up to date, but skip the audio...

Thanks for the reply, that may be what my problem is. In all games I play (strangely, except for AoC), the video will run flawlessly and I'll get hitches in the audio (like skipping, pausing, etc). So I may just need to do that.

I also turned down the World Mesh to low or normal, I forgot which, and that helped. Graphics don't look too much different from when it was defaulted on high, so that's nice.

Thanks for the reply.

Actually, from what I understand its a heavy mod of the unreal 2.5 engine. UTE3 allows multi core support. 2.5 doesn't.  What many in the MMO Dev world should consider is hiring(or contracting) people from the FPS game sector to optimize their graphics.

Tcos uses 2 of my 4 cores.  It runs extremely smooth at high setting, despite some high congestion hiccups (boo geforce120gt)

Ill take the unreal 2.5 over a lot of other game engins in mmo's.....gameplay and combat are as smooth and responsive as wow.

are people having issues with mulicores running smoothly, because i havnt tweaked anything and im not even sure optimizing all 4 cores would even have a real improvment, since the game runs butter smooth already.

if your curious im running intels q8200@2.33 ghz so its not exactly a monster compared to whats currently avaliable and my card isnt exactly a gamers deam.

However i use to crash on rare occasions, not so much anymore though.

My information comes from the official boards(one of their CM's posted). If its in error, then thats news to me.  My system is a Quad core 2.5 with 6 gigs of memory, a Geforce 9800(512 megs), SB XiFI plat, Vista 64 SP1 and a 8-10 meg cable connection.

It runs fairly smooth in most areas on mixed settings(some high some medium).  If SB has been designed like the Vengence engine(based on URE 2.5) then it may be multi core.   I hope it has been designed for multi cores, as other wise it will not wear well.

Its not built around the Unreal 3 engine but the 2.5 engine... quite a difference
