games that should be turned into mmos

intresting list  ,there were some id like to see happen but i think there are some that were left out on your list that would of

of been more deserving like

fable online

zelda online

vampire the masquerade online

mass effect online

megaman online

dynasty warriors online

thoese are just a few suggestions as to what i think would of been great games to play online

I was just going to mention vampire the masquerade but instead of just of that they should incorperate all the stories that White Wolf has into 1 online game called White Wolf Online that way you have vampire hunters, werewolf hunters, mages, everything in 1 big game that spans the whole globe.

World of Darkness Online is already ongoing at CCP's Atlanta studio.

Aye, and maybe some of you guys could sign up to speed up the process?

Mass Effect would totally be awesome as an mmo. I liked their choices of Neverwinter Nights, Age of Empires and Bioshock as mmos. I used to play Neverwinter Nights and Age of Empires all the time and at the time there weren't many games better than those.

I agree. I am shocked these were missing from the list. Both would be great MMO themes.

Also, I don't think Neverwinter Nights should be on the list. The reason is that it was already done. The very fist MMORPG I ever played was the original 2D Neverwinter Nights playable only over AOL *gag*. That was a loooong time ago.

As to the original list, I like the idea of a Nintendo MMORPG. I think it would appeal to other casual gamers like myself. A raid could be a princess kidnapping - you either have to kidnap her or rescue her depending on your faction. But I wonder what the quests would be like - "Go jump on 10 Goombas" ?

Also, not to sound like a complete "dweeb" but... and I'll probably get crap for saying this.... Naruto. Shoot me, but damn the world they made, method of fighting and overall potential, is perfect for a mmorpg.

Check out a sample video of one of the 360 single player titles. If they took the naruto world, put it in a ninja village with clans vs ninja vs clans, pvp and pve, used the darker less kid focused Manga (comic) undertone, this would be the best mmorpg franchise to work with since WoW.

I could totally see this. Definitely a skill-based system with taijutsu, genjutsu, ninjutsu and "med-jutsu" branches. While the basic skills (shuriken throwing, running, basic chakra control for standing on water or the sides of trees) would be available to everyone, the village you pick would affect specific powers and clothing available. And you could have a summoning power - maybe have some quests that would involve working with frogs/dogs/snakes/chimps and when you've reached a certain partnership level, you gain the ability to summon them.

It could work...

The less you expect, the more you'll be surprised. Hopefully, pleasantly so.

I only see one of those games off that list becoming an mmo and that is Kingdom of Hearts, as far as what content would be there is hard to say. Now i see some potential for some of the other games not on that list doing well as niche mmo's for sure. If they ever do decide to make a Forgotten Realms mmo then i see that doing very well if done right(not wow). MechWarriors would also be a worthy mmo as well as some of the other suggestions i see from players.

Hard to believe no Elder Scrolls in this list.

Oblivion or Morrowind or the entire Lore of TES would be #1 if i wrote this list.

No Elder Scrolls because Mortal Online has hijacked their combat system lol..

Diablo Online?  How does someone miss this?  This person obviously doesn't know about what people want.

There are certain things that you need make up an mmo, while some of these games listed certainly have immersive quality that isn't enough.   Two notable mentions I might also point out have some issues.

Bioshock certainly had an awesome environment and story base but that game came under attack early on for good reason. They gave the players the ability to chase down and disembowel little girls that behaved so much like the real thing it was scary. It may be violating  a sacred cow to question the sanity of creative genius game devs but I have no love for sacred cows so I will. The guy who came up with the little sisters as targets idea needs professional help.   It was a magnificent piece of art but it was still disturbing.   Nothing new btw to artist though out history.   In WoW we have people dragging around the orphans so they can have fun with the idea of tormenting children and you want to give them little sisters in a progressive mmo? No.

GTO? One of the most controversial game series ever and you want to give people the opportunity to live in it. No, no, no and ... no. Srsly.

An mmo is persistent, immersive and dynamic.   It is consistently evolving and reinventing it self in modifications.   You need a good frame for that in the foundation of the storyline and not a storyline that could potentially evolve out of control.   That being said some of the suggestions by replies here seem much better suited imo for the job.   Better yet there are some great fantasy novel series out there that would make awesome mmo games.

Hey there everyone.

interesting discussion...

personally i have always thought about the anime Hunter X Hunter as a mmo it has most just not to say all of a mmo systems even the greed island parts are mmo styled.

some studio should really think about this. i really do like hunter x hunter's concept.

I did not get a chance to read through all the pages here but I did not see a mention of the Nightwatch (Daywatch and Twilightwatch also) series being an idea for an mmorpg. If anyone has read the books (Not just watched the movies since the movies only brush the surface of the first book) then I hope you would agree it would make an interesting mmorpg or even just a single player rpg. I know a company made a single player game out of the first book I think but it was horrible.

What a great game ...it could have been a skill base MMO and I like the Arcane vs Technology idea in this game.

Well there's a lot of indie development out there...so it's just possibly that most of you have already missed SMOO Online...which was created by 1 man-band developer Doomsberg on the Multiverse platform.  This was just a test of course a challenge issued 1 year earlier to create a different type of game using the MV platform (at GDC i think) and this is what resulted from it.

Enjoy the video...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnqL7Fn1GTc

And I agree there's a number of mmo's that could be made from existing IP's out there so to throw mine in the ring...

Force of Arms (In development) the Mech MMORPG ...based on a love of the Mechwarrrior and Battletech universes but with all its own new lore and backgrounds. Footage of in-game models and Renders from DragonCon 2008 video are here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rYZrO56DyA

Games I'd love to see, defintely the Forgotten Realms universe...and as mmo's ideas are a dime a dozen I have a couple of other personal favorites from old Table top...Deadlands which has been mentioned here a couple of times and which I have already planned out to be my next mmorpg project I work on following release of FOA. Then I would also like to see Dune and the Alternity Universe (Retro sci-fi like old Traveller) made into an mmo....if I can get Steve to come down on his IP licesnse then I'll do that one as well....you wouldn't believe the price he wants for it.... :)

I disagree with many titles on the list.

Battlefield should not be made as an MMO. I'll say that Heroes is a good exception and that the game is pure solid but any serious BF game should remain how it is. The FPS communities has a competitive scene with major events and such, making an MMO will destroy this.

Neverwinter night

Again, no... the beauty of NWN is that the players gets to make content and allow other players to play in it. You have story tellers, building and planning out an epic adventure over several months. It's basically D&D with a graphical interface.

NWN MMO = Dungeon and Dragons onlines

Left 4 Dead

While I like the idea, do you seriously think it's going to work? Did you actually play L4D for a few months?

I don't think so...

As for Nintendo, Kingdom Hearts, Madden, age of empires here's the a simple quote...

Awesome + awesome does not always equal Awesome.

I'm suprise you didn't mention Command and Conquer instead of Age of Empires. At least C&C has 3 distinct faction, with 3 distinct goals and a storyline with 200 years of background and wars.

Battlefield already has an MMO and it's BF heroes or WWII Online. Do you know what happens to noobs in WWII online? They get to walk 45 minutes in the wrong direction only to get killed by a sniper 1 mile away lol...

The world of Bioshock could potentially make a cool MMO but only the world, not the game itself.

Basicaly, aside from Starcraft, I have no idea where you got your ideas but seriously, as a writer you could have looked a bit deeper. I like what you normaly write but this time, you we're lazy and that's pretty sad. You did exactly what most companies do lately, you simply picked a bunch of random popular names and placed the awesome tag on them. Might as well say that Unreal Tournament could make an MMO... after all it has more then 10 distinct factions, a huge storyline and enough worlds to crush Starcraft to it's knees. Yet, you went on and named something like Nintendo worlds online?

It seems like Nintendo would sooner gnaw it's nunchucku controllers off than have anything to do with an MMO.

They've made it no secret that they're targeting gamers not even old enough to cross the street by themselves. That's why the Wii and DS make full use of garbage friend codes and the most un-fun multiplayer modes ever (Only multiplayer over the internet counts here, you can still squeeze some fun out of a group of friends huddled around a TV.) Nintendo's just too worried about predators and other unsavory types roaming the servers to risk putting in place such an open system.

It is a pretty interesting idea though. A Mario World Online, although I doubt humans would be a playable race, world PvP between the mushroom people and goombas would be a blast.

Age of Empires, interesting. No one has really thought about that, as far as I know. There is a lot of complexity when it comes to RTS games (well, maybe not anymore with the release of Dawn of War II...), primarily city building, tech trees (which could be adapted to some sort of crafting or upgrade system), and, of course, factional warfare.

All the other suggestions were interesting as well, except Starcraft Online, which is cliché. Everyone wants one, and Korea would go nuts.

Don't discount Shadowrun as a great property for an onine game. Hackers, Cyber Samurais, Shamans, shapeshifting dragons. What a great combination. Plus the RPG system is already created, I think Shadowrun roleplaying rules are up to their 4th edition.

Oh, and there was already a Neverwinter Nights MMOG. It was one of the very first actually. It ran from about 92 to 97 on AOL. Was the game that broke my online gaming cherry. And my bank account (pay per hour, once paid 1400 dollars for a month of play).

Sorry if this has been mentioned before since theres so many replys but I'm honestly suprised that Pokemon was not on the list.  Yea I know some people don't like the francise, but the games have always been fun to me.  Seems like a game that would be a lot of fun in a MMO setting with the potential for expansions.  If they allow players to control the pokemon in a more proactive manner then turn based it would be insane!
