I got so much |
Black Prophecy just came out with Gameplay footage www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/04/08/on-the-menu-black-prophecy-footage/
I have been following Jumpgate Evolution for over a year now. -Everything from how the ship moves. ( you can fly full speed and than stop in split second. - you almost move like WOW avatar ?!) -They are almost finished with game and have no Cockpit screenshots even… they are still considering how it will look? They are heavily implementing instanced battleground PVP (thing that destroyed WAR) No death penalty, no collision damage, no multiple faction squads... The game is slwly but surely moving away from Freelancer/Elite - towards some kind of arcade pew pew
On other hand Black Prophecy (out of nowhere), looks ever better. Cockpit. Ships that change appearance depending on equiped parts… And it looks less arcady … Dont know what to say…. dissapointing
Net Devil allready destroyed one great idea Auto Assault... Now it becomes clear why and how....

Yes, it does look better then JGE. I will watch it more closely from now. But I wouldn't say that it's more sim-like and less instanced then JGE. AFAIK its directly opposite - more arcade fligh model and heavily instanced. But I for one don't follow some strict rules ie: "you shall not play a game with instances" "you shall not play a game without heavy death penalty" No, I stick to what provide better overall fun, where positives > negatives. Will see how this ratio is going to be in both games.

If someone wanted a arcady space shooter there has been Vendetta online which runs mint. We see how many people populate that type game. As for JGE and BP lets see what they actually deliver at release. Hype is so meaningless to me with all these MMO failures. Good luck to the devs on both. |

BP's instancing might not be so bad, depending on how rampantly it's used and how fluid instance transition is. It sure looks nice graphically, which probably means I'll be playing JGE as I doubt I'll be able to get acceptable frame rates with BP. The cockpits look great visually, but in terms of practicality they seem rather shoddily designed, especially the one you see about half-way through the movie as it obscures most of the view. I don't think anybody will be using the cockpit view on that ship. I hope JGE's cockpits will be practically designed. Loved the atmosphere and the visuals, though. Wasn't the BP crew behind Neocron also? If so, they hardly have a perfect track record either. |

Yes they are the ones behind Neocron. Graphically I think BP is going to win. But with both JGE and BP staying a little tight lipped about certain aspects of the game we will have to just wait and see how things really are. I have been emailing the devs to see if I can get more info... Come and checkout my website: |

Black Prophecy appeals more to me as well. |

If you don't like instancing, BP is not your game. It has a huge emphasis on instancing content. In fact, could someone please link to any word official quotes about non-instanced content? Everything I see is about instances. If you don't mind instancing, BP may be right for you. |

I'm gonna keep my eye on black prophecy, if it's got instancing as in BGs or JG:E "battle space" then forget it. For now I'm concentrating on Earthrise, an open world MMORPG. |

What I saw in the BP video is you selected what kinda mission you wanted to played... PvE or PvP and whether you wanted to play in a Group or do one Solo. So yea you aren't gonig to like it. What was lacking (in the video) was what kinda non-instance missions would there be, if any. Mortal Online looks more "open" than Earthrise... if you don't mind it be 1st person all the time. |

Earthrise doesn't look to impressive yet personally... I thought Tabula Rasa looked better. But I'm concerned about the instancing that will be used in both BP and JGE and I will be looking at that the most because I want more of an open experience as well. And I think we won't see that until Infinity comes in another 2-3yrs :) I want there to be some openness where we can just fly around and blast people if we want too and I would love to see actions effecting the universe. Why do you guys keep mentioning the instance in JGE as the only PvP there is? There is perfectly fine open world PvP, too. You don't have to do the instanced PvP, at all, you can 'just' do the world PvP, which is about conquering stations or outposts, from the other races...
Anyways, yeah, BP is very pretty, but that game only have instances, from what i can gather, but i will surely try it out at releasetime anyway.. could still be great... I especially love the cockpit graphics. The modular design also sound great. |

What do you think about Infinity? Another cool space MMO in development : ) |

We won't see Infinity for a few more years. They are still working on perfecting the I-Novae engine that already looks amazing. But this game will steal a bunch of users from all the space MMO's just because they have kicked around the possible option of being free or small micro payments. But that is only talk no fact behind it. Come and checkout my website: |

bh looks crappy, trading outside ships/docks, only instanced pvp.. its not an mmo for me unless you can blow up the sissy's that trade and roleplay and steal all thier cargo! besides ive played JGE and its really good, has alot going for it if you're patient enough to wait for the release and see for ureselves

Both JGE and BH look good. Finally a space shooter that caters to people who have lives. Going PvE is the right way to go. We will see which one comes out top. |

I was assuming the lack of actual docking was temporary.... not that it matter much to me. The docking bay in Eve and JGE is just graphical and has no function.... no reason to really waste the time docking and undocking if all the same functions can be done from outside the station. They have stated clearly, in several places, that the game has areas for open world PvP. It is NOT limited to instances. If you want a game where you can gank and grief players that have no interest in PvP, it's already out. It's called Eve Online and it's a snoozefest. |

not exactly selling it well there mate, i dont want a snooze fest, i wanna make [lovely individuals] cry by "ganking" them, but i dont want a point and click game, which is what makes EVE retardedly boring..

Black Prophecy, if you listen to the little info the devs have released, is going to be heavily instanced, and focused on missions with smaller groups of people...
If it turns out that way, it will be the death knell for the game. |

I played Freelancer in multiplayer and loved it for many years. Therefore i was so excited about JGE and followed the game from the very first moment on. By now, my excitement dropped to almost zero for a simple reason: It's taking them WAY TOO LONG to get it done and release the damn game. It also took them forever to get the beta up. I remember that still on their old homepage one could sign in... and nothing happened for ages after. Years ago the first screenshots and later also videoclips where impressive. When i watch the latest clips today, the graphic almost looks dated. There is also some hearsay floating around that many things about JGE plain sucks and they cant get their things straight..but well, thats just hearsay. I'm afraid this game will follow the route some other games went...took them forever to get released and when they finally hit the stores, the first day on the shelves they were already outdated in many terms or a similar game was quicker and outrunned them on the home stretch. Very cool video. Really seperates itself from the visual look of EVE which Jumpgate has somehow slipped into. I signed up for beta and am excited to see how it plays. Arioc Murkwood |
