Long Track record of previous missteps in other games and after spending over $1100.00 on upgrading pc getting collectors edition, 6 month subscription to the game. The final straw was when i asked on the funcom fourms why dx10 was not in game but it said dx10 capabale on my collectors edition box ? My post was removed in about 10mins and i was permanetly banned from there forums. I will as long as there in business continue to voice my opion to them anyway im able till i feel ive recoped my 1100 bucks. I will also never play another funcom game.

Those external hired Moderators have been their biggest mistake ever. And have hurt more then they think.

Seems they are gone now tho. Haven't seen any of them in a long long time. And it was about time their contract got killed!

Doesn't sadly remove the fact that damage has been done to people like you who were unrightfully banned by those forum nazis.

But also remember that the amount of hate and trolling on the AoC forums was pretty extreme back then. Only saw it on the SOE forums shortly after the NGE had hit SWG. And the SOE moderators went Nazi mode back then too tho (and lot more extreme even) and basically... they still are today.

Cheers

The fact that the lvling curve was way to damn fast and we had tons of  80s running around within a month. Either they made it too easy or alot of people out there have no lives but to sit infront of there computer for countless hours a day. That is what put me off, no MMO should allow you to reach its max level in less then a month as that is just bad planning.

It was a combination of both. Plus there were a lot of exploits that were being exploited by a large amount of ex-BETA testers.

You should have been there when The Matrix Online launched. Had been with that game months in Beta till couple months after launch.

There were some notirious MxO BETA guilds who held back some serious exploits and exploited them to the max when the game launched. They reached level50 within 1-2 weeks and especially on the PVP server it became one BIG gankfest against new players who were unable to play the game, because there were no safezones.

Monolith didn't dare or were too stupid to cope with these issues and nothing was done about it nor anything being done against those guilds and players.

And when it comes to leveling curve. Every MMO out there today (except some horribl Asian grinders) there are plenty of players out there (be it more hardcore or downright no-lifers) who reach the max level in any MMO within a couple weeks.

If that puts you off, well then I feel sorry for you, as the only MMO's left to play for you are either the ones with No level and no classes (like EVE Online) or some of those Asian grinders.

Good luck.

For me it was the game controls for combat.  My hand hurt from all the clicking this game had for months after I quit.  I tried other methods of control, but I was never able to get them to work as well as clicking and using the mouse was for me.  Beyond that was the pathetic class balance in a PvP game, it would of been a fine balance concept for a PvE game, but in PvP, tanks were pretty much useless (unless they were of a certain level/spec'd a certain way), especially after a number of the nerfs.

I think I left 3 months in, I really tried to like the game.  I loved Tortage the first 3 times through, after that it got REALLY old.  I really wanted to like the guardian, but what good is the best armor in the game when players can ignore you and go after the squishy DPSer?  Then once you got to the 50's the combos required so much clicking that it was ridiculous.

Just because you are unique does not mean you are special

4/24/09 5:25:41 PM#31

I didn't vote because I can only pick one.  Bugs/technical issues, instancing, small zones, customer support, stealth system, and Funcom's lies.  Crafting was boring but most games it's boring...even the epic crafting system of SWG was boring, but at least the crafting in SWG was worth it.

That being said, I'll actually give the game another shot if they have a vet winback program after 1.05.

Edit to add lack of itemization, both stat  and appearance wise.

A simple truth-"What people want and what is good for an mmo is not always the same thing"-mrw0lf

4/24/09 5:41:17 PM#32

I was a more casual player of the game, and after 3 months my highest level character was 55 or so.  I was actually enjoying the game, had not hit the upper levels/end game which apparently weren't so good because everyone in my guild quit and went back to WOW or some other game.

I looked around and the cities I traveled in were now empty, so few players left from the busy, bustling days of the first month or so.

Didn't even have to worry about being ganked at the quest npcs, there wasn't anyone around to gank me.

So I basically quit because a game isn't fun with no other people to play it.

For me it was too much instancing and lack of players, i played on EU servers so don't know how population is on US servers. If anyone can confirm it i might give US servers another go. But instancing still puts me off.

Not really feeling like a mmo  with all the instancing, class balance  1 shots , city siege being broke.

The leveling. I hate grinding. If Age of Conan didn't bank so hard on the grind then I'd love it.

I subscribed again after the server merges only to witness the dead population. Forced myself to play here and there for 2 weeks, then finally buried the game.

had a lot of fun, was playing a ranged character at first, i cant stand range sadly enough, swapped to melee.. saw how HORRIBLE it is to be melee in that game. quit. literally just like that after getting to maybe lvl 33 in melee (was powerleveled) - just stopped playing in disgust at how hard it is to pvp with circle strafing and LoS glitching.

Why did YOU quit Age of Conan?

I quit for several reasons.

1) the game abused instances. I do not like instances at all, I think its a shortcut that mmo devs take because of lack of content.

2) End game was worthless. I raided for gear that was junk. Gem embedded crafted gear was better. That supports gold buyers.

3) End game dint really have a reason.

These were the 3 main reasons I quit.

Two reason I wont give it another chance:

1) because of all the lies that Funcom feed us.

2) AoC will be shut down when Funcom releases TSW anyways.

This puzzles me...

because this is the only MMO I've played where I actually look FORWARD to questing. If you read the text...it makes a world of difference.

I feel more like a hero, because there is a little bit of the real me invested in the quest.

were you playing on the BRAND NEW servers?

because on Cimmeria...I'm constantly getting ganked while leveling in Tesso. There are atleast 5-10 in Tesso at any given time.

I'm just very confused with some of the complaints in this thread...because I don't see any of this stuff.

Instancing, Crafting, and Stats are the only big "problems" I see.

Instancing doesn't bug me, Crafting isn't a biggy for me...I grew up (began MMO's) on WoW's crafting system LOL, and I'm sort of scared what the new stat patch is going to do, because I'm afraid they will make gear TOO important.

So maybe it's my point of view? I do, however, know for a fact that the servers are nowhere near dead.

You forgot to add "all of the above" option. I quit because of most of those reasons.

You forgot the most common one.

"dont have time anymore!"

and

"I maxed 3 chars so I got bored"

Yes, I could only put 10 reasons so I had to leave something out. But I don't think those two are very common reasons. Most of players don't have the energy to max out 3 characters if they don't like the game. Most players left way before they reached max level.

You are right. I meant "Lack of endgame" which is in your poll. However "dont have time" or "RL cought up with me" is imho the most common one for every MMO. Even the bug ridden ones.

Yeah but see that's only YOUR opinion. It's basically a guess that it is based on absolutely nothing. What about about those 500k+ players who quit right after launch? They all loved the game but just "didn't have time"? Lol that must have been a busy month

Sure people quit because of RL issues but I doubt it makes into top-10, MMO's being so damn addictive and all

I was one of those 500k, it was fun even with the buggs, the game had alot to offer from level 1-50 then it was missing content to level without grinding.    What was the main reason why we all left?    Itemization, my charector looked the same as it did when it was level 10 as it did at level 50 and on up.    Funcom lied about many things, thier was no social aspect to the game, no bar fights or anything else they promised on the package.    The UI was hard to get into, Emotes or any other communication in game was just plain bad.

Funcom like many other gaming companys spend a great deal of time, effort and money to make games like this and just when they look like thier finished.   Someone pushes the start button, but hey its not like any of the grunts "developers" are making any objections.    Whatever the reason why games are getting pushed out before they are finished will always result in pissing off the customer and ruining whatever reputation the company has.

I'm missing the option to check more than one point in these polls.

For me it was

1. Bugs and technical issues.

I played the trial a few days ago and many things seem to be fixed by now -in the beginner areas. Still waiting for the veteran-trial to see if that is the case in the later levels as well.

2. Small zones

This is a point that is not going to get fixed and i'm not going to get used to. Probably something i would quit over again.

Small and boxed zones make it impossible for me to immerse and relate to the game-world, this design doesn't belong into an mmorpg. This subject was raised very early in the beta and concerns and input from the testers got smashed by the devs. We were also lied to that the game would completely open up in the later zones. That wasn't quite the case and in addition, invisible walls were added/removed/denied etc. at a point.

Personally, i'm very glad to see that the testers were right and tons of people refuse the game because of the small and boxed world. Hopefully that was a lesson for some.

3. Funcom itself

I've been one of the very early beta-testers (in fact among the very first who got invited, there was the number of 300 invitations floating around at that time) Without going into details, let's just say that Funcom didnt handle the testers and beta in general very well at many times. After release and the lies of Gaute, Ellingson and Tharaldson, at a point i lost the wire to Funcom as a trustworthy company to give my money to. I can deal with bugs and unfinished products and still love a game, i did so many times. But how Funcom's trio twisted and turned all the things on purpose was just plain lying to the folks who were SO loyal and dedicated to their product already years before release.

Other things such as the often questionable moderation of their forums etc. added up to that and i decided to just pack things.

Well, Gaute left his seat and i'm glad to not see the face of Erlingson every other day on the mainpage of mmorpg.com anymore. I think Craig is an honest and decent guy, he knew what strings to pull to clear some of the mess Gaute left behind. But one guy doesnt change the image of the whole company in a few month when his predecessors gave it all to ruin it. And this is a thing that can't be fixed by a patch.

I would love to see AoC getting together. But all bugs and such aside: before i would re-sub, first of all FC as a company would have to earn my trust again.

After I played a siege and had large amounts of server side lag along with the low FPS that I got.

Make the sieges playable, and people might actually have something fun to do in the endgame.

I am guessing you like to just one click abilities?

I thought the combat system kept the players on their toes. Especially in Boss fights, missing one arrow key may mean that you drop down the dps charts or in 1v1 pve that one miss could mean your death. The game is good and very bad at the same time.

Great graphics - Nice combat system - lots of blood and adult content, 1-40 is great, and 40-80 wasnt too bad.

Bugs - Instanced linear zones. - too many single player instances (villas) - No solid end game - Item (gear weapons) are god awful. Crafting sucks (gems were useless). - Too taxing on most PCs.

I love it and hate it and do not currently play.

Remove quests, bosses and trigger them back in is called Dynamic events now?lol..i think not.

4/26/09 5:49:24 AM#47

There was not enough players to interact with.I also felt the rewards in game were too weak and not interesting at all.The game felt quite decent on a whole ,but i felt like certain areas were thrown together too quickly.I really find it hard to pick aprt the game,it is decent enough, i think it just lacks diverse content.

If you have ever played FFXI,you would know there are several different forms of combat ideas.I mean everyone gets bored of just killing and leveling and killing and leveling,so a game needs to bring forth new ways or ideas.FFXI has ASSAULT/Salvage,Einjehar,arena for pets,Campaign,Beseiged, well you get the picture ...SEVERAL ideas to combat.A game also needs diverse abilities and spells, everything can't be an icon with a certain damage element to it,that you just endlessly click.

I know i am nick picking, but the MAJORITY of gamers have a home, for a new game on the block to pry players from their homes,it has to be bigger, better, not just the same or lesser.Games like WOW/FFXI/EQ2/Vanguard are big massive games that have a ton of content and for the most part, aside from WOW,offer new ideas and concepts.AOC kind of comes out and looks good but offers nothing new or nothing to creativity for game play, players are looking for something NEW.

If there was 5 million players looking for a new game and AOC was released during that time,it would have a great chance to post big  numbers, but i fear there is less than 1-2 million players truly looking for a new game.SO for any game to succeed and maintain 500k ,it is a tough go at the very least. Then you have to realize there is always 1/2/3 maybe 4 new games coming out the same time as yours,so these 2 million possible subscribers are bounced around several different games.

There was not enough to do. I mean, the graphics are great, the gameplay is fun (I like the combat gameplay), the music is great. But that all is worthless, if there is almost nothing to do

Everyone not playing wow is a wow hater! :P

I quit because there were better choices of MMOs.  Ones that had:

1. Better PVP,

2. Better crafting,

3. Better guilding,

4. Better open zones,

5. Better character balance,

6. More trustworthy management,

7. Other games seem to at least have the POSSIBILITY of being fixed,

8. Oh, and better questing.

No 1 reason.  TONS and TONS of little ones.

And if you tell me that these things are better NOW, I say 'too little, too late'.
