I know griefing can get out of hand, and I am never an advocate of following players around and harrassing them.

But "minor" griefing, I mean stuff like occasionally aggroing monsters and pulling them to an area where other players are not prepared to deal with them.  Or seeing a giant walk towards where players are, but not saying anything in General Chat to warn anyone.

Of buying stuff on the Auction House and setting it at ridiculous prices, hoping someone will accidentally click the "Buy" button.

You know, minor stuff.  Sort of mischievous and fun at times.

Remember a game called Shadowrun which allowed players to do all the fps cheats but was part of the game, that game was so cool. I'd like to see an MMORPG where the entire purpose of the game IS to grief and you get griefing powers as you level up.

I'm confused why would you want to grief underaged players?

Oh i get it you mean you miss being a asshat. I Think WoW still allows some of that. Also Darkfall might be right up your alley.

You have to have griefing in an online game because it can always be really funny. My mates and I always uses to train mobs onto other people man it was so funny and in Planetside we'd suicide and fly into the vehicle pads back in the day when there were queues of like 50 people.

Well.. In WoW.. Yes, wow, i played a hunter and often pulled Strong Elite mobs / bosses to towns.. The chaos was amusing.
I dont mind being griefed a bit.. As long as it doesn't get out of hand.

I don't see where the OP mentioned anything about "underage" players. I guess you just invented that to reinforce your opinion.

The fact is that the average age of a MMOG player has been established to be mid twenties by several reliable polls. Your accusation of taking advantage of less sophisticated individuals is therefore false.

I do miss the reality of being able to train mobs, whether I am the trainee or trained. Games that have disabled this possibility thru coding that warps mobs back to their original pathing or that prohibit mobs from adding players they clearly pass by and see to their hate list, just kill immersion. I like as much realism as possible in my MMOGs and no one should ever feel completely secure in so called "safe spots".

Griefing in WoW?

If you gank someone in WoW they run back to their body in 30 seconds, If you gank them while questing they may have to restart a escort, even pulling a boss to a quest hub does very little to really mess up someones day.

When I mess with someone I want to mess up their whole day, their Week, their month. I want to destroy 6months to a years worth of progress and make them so mad that they actually cry in the corner of their home in RL.

When WoW lets me mess with someones day so bad that they lose a tiers worth or armor then I consider the game to have real grieving.

Until then Ill play games like UO (fs) and Eve.

I was never a griefer myself, or at least I think that if I killed someone unfairly it was justified,

but i'll admit being a victim of it was an exciting expirence. I mean I was usually just pissed when it happened, but looking back it was part of the game for me.

Erm no.  I don't understand griefers.  Maybe a griefer can explain how they get fun = destroying fun for others.  Honestly, I don't understand what must be going on in someones head for that equation to work.

It's hard to miss something that's not gone. Griefing will exist as long as developers see their products as games and griefers see thm as something pretty to be smashed with a hammer.

I guess I'm no wired that way. Don't find griefing other players amusing or fun.

If I'm playing a pvp game and I'm griefed it's not a big deal. I'm a big believer in understanding the game you are playing. But for me, It would never even occur to me to do such a thing.

Well for me it's about role playing.

My need to roleplay as a pirate scumbag in Eve is higher on my list of priorities then making sure the general population is having a goodtime.

In eve it's easy to mess up someones day. hell just getting blown up and losing everything could piss someone off.

We have our roles in MMOs and mine plays a big part in Eve.

The other day I saw a three month old player in a Hulk ( a tech II mining vessel). those things are expensive, the guy had this thing fitted like a complete asshole. it was obvious he was flying a ship he couldnt afford to replace.

So I flipped him and blew his ass out of the sky. this player had no combat drones for defense or even tech II shield systems.

While I probably ruined his next month of playing I feel I did him a great service.

Next time he flys a Hulk he will make sure he can replace it, He will fit it with juicy tech II drones and Tech II sheilds so he can survive.

He may not realize it now but I helped him more then anyone could of at that point.

Playing: EvE, Ryzom

You do realize that he was just making a PUN about his usage of the term minor, right?

Basically OP you say you miss the 'ability' to train NPC mobs on other players who are minding their own business.

You're not interested in actually fighting them, just trying to get them killed with no real risk to yourself.

Do you trip people on crutches just for grins too?

There's nothing entertaining (to me) in spoiling someone else's fun. (unless some sort of clan enemy or something)

No, we can do w/o trains and other annoying mechanics like that.

LoL....this reminds me of some RL "griefing" I did....

I mangled my knee while practicing at the martial arts school I study at.....anyway, I'm on crutches, in the grocery store, and this soccer-mom and her screaming brat of a kid are in the isle with me. The kid keeps running back and forth up and down the isle, and she's screaming at him.

So I wait 'till he's running by, and innocently shift one of my crutches....tripping the kid, and sending him sprawling.

His mom proceeds to yell at him for running into the "poor man's" crutches, and I'm ready to piss myself laughing....

....anyway, yeah....I do miss griefing in MMOs.

good man, i dont play eve anymore but your absolutely right about teaching that noob about not risking what he cant replace in pirate space, if only eve combat wasnt rock paper scissors it might be engrossing enough to hold my interest

When I see somebody in need of dental work I smash them in the mouth with a baseball bat to force them to visit the dentist. They thank me later.

It is because of people like this that I hate world pvp. I'm glad I didn't have to deal with this crap when I played WoW thanks to PvE servers.

However, to be honest, I don't consider what the OP is talking about to be griefing hardly. Kiting mobs into crowded cities? That's just hysterical. I loved it when people did that, it gave me something to do while I waited for a group lol. I think they should have more of that kind of thing in MMOs and actually offer some rewards for it!

As far as overpricing things in the AH, what kind of idiot doesn't pay attention to the prices? Accidentally buying something way overpriced ought to teach you to pay attention.
