A website for the upcoming MMO, Otherland, which is based on the Tad Williams book series, has launched to allow gamers to check out development news, screenshots and more.

The game will be based on the universe laid out in the Otherland books, which follows a group of people as they try to escape a virtual reality world. The characters in the book experience old lands and new, realistic environments and bizarre ones. The game is said to bring all that to players:

"Starting from the player lobby Lambda Mall, an Entertainment, Meeting and Communication centre, players will teleport into a wide variety of game worlds. As in the books, virtual reality is a central topic of the game. Nothing is what it appears to be at first glance in this futuristic vision from the pen of Tad Williams, who played an important role in the development of the game."

The develpment team, consisting of around 80 people, is using the Unreal Engine 3, and pushing it to the boundaries to produce a visually stunning experience:

"Otherland is the largest game production in the history of our company. We see enormous potential in the untapped Otherland licence, which the experienced Real U team and mastermind Andrew Carter will implement in a unique game experience," says Markus Windelen, COO dtp entertainment.

The new official website features news about the game, information, screenshots and a place to sign up for a newsletter.

I remember MMORPG.com did an article about this a while back. The concepts they put forward look very interesting, and the whole setting looks amazing.

Hope things work out, we need more good games on the market today.
