So How would I go about requesting one of the beta keys?  I'm really excited to help out with testing.  Thanks to you guys for creating this opportunity!

My understanding was they got 1000 keys....

Anyone know what they started at when this was announced?

Probably gonna stagger the release of them over a few days hopefully...

It started yesterday, and if they only got 1000 keys, they're all gone. There were about 800 left when I got mine, which was only about 3 hours after the announcement (Lobotomist had already posted, but Prae0 had not). The keys went very quickly.

I got a beta invite by email and I would love to try the game out but for some odd reason my monitor doesnt support the games resolution and I don't know how to change it. Basically the game starts my monitor instantly goes black and there is nothing I can do, forced to restart my computer.

I'd check here and the freerealms.com site if I were you. Sometimes MMO's give out limited keys to popular mmo sites, but then a few days later offer open beta on their own site. Heck sign up for beta now, they might be flagging accounts in waves.

lol What genius came up with the idea to include micro payments for a game that's intended for 4 year olds?

Idiots!

Well, it's a game intended to be played by a whole family. Parents and their children playing together. And even if the parent's don't play, you can bet your ass kids will be bugging their parents for in game cash all the time. It's a GENIUS idea, because impulse purchases are more likely to happen when a child is involved. Just look at the checkout lane at a grocery store. Every child wants something, even if they aren't hungry, and even if they've already gotten something else, because it's THERE, and they want it.

I'd have to agree, as a business model and the fact it's aimed for a younger audience $oE are going straight for the jugular, these companies are there not to be our friend but to make money, and if getting the kids to pester mom and dad for some extra cash to buy some fluff items then thats the route they will take.

So yes some genius did come up with it, but it certainly wasn't $oE who got there first.

Infact Blizzard operates a micro-payment system aswell with their card collectables, buy the card and you might be lucky to find a fluff item or even a rare mount code printed on it, however it's still a means of extracting extra cash from players, primarily kids.
