Is there any word on when the big 1.05 patch is due? I was gonna come back and check out AoC after bailing after that abismal launch but I wanted to wait for 1.05 since so much changes and since the itemization, or lack thereof, really annoyed me way back when. -------------------------------- |

Youre better off staying bailed. AOC is going to die within the next few months. They arent making the changes that need to be made with 1.05. It bascially just a mass nerfing and nothing more.... |

Well that is patently inaccurate since Dark Templar are getting a pretty large buff by all accounts. Do you play a Tmepest of Set?
Whether 1.05 will be good bad or indifferent I don't know. But I do know blatantly false hyperbole is bad. |

Perhaps funcom has learned its lesson but even if that is the case 3 months testing for an update to a live game seems extreme. -------------------------------- |

my guess on last week of may for one year of this game |

So aside from the itemnization changes, which I understand to be a greater variety of items and better scaling with levels coupled with getting beefed up in terms of character bonus what are teh highlights of 1.05 verse original AoC? I have read parts of the patch notes, but without being in game of late it is hard to really get how they will impact in game. -------------------------------- |

I think you hit the nail on the head regarding the poster you quoted, heh. Nothing wrong with testing properly - I wish more gaming companies would do the same - but I'd like to think the patch will hit in less than a month from now. However, if they want a high return rate of former subscribers, they have to make sure the patch is working properly with next to no bugs. There is no excuse for ****ing this up again. |

Patch 1.05 will make or break this game. That is pretty much what it comes down to. So Sil (Craig) already said that they will take all the time nessessary to get things right, before they push this patch to live. They even pushed the 1.05 patch to TestLive prematurely to get as much feedback as possible already from the players. Wich I think is a really good thing. As sertain things they just didn't do right and need a lot of tweaking. Better getting that kind of feedback due to playertesting sooner then later. Ofcourse the downside of this is that you got the usual kiddies (who keep in eternal denial that their class was never OP) are crying like little babies now their class (wich has been way OP for a year) gets the treatment it deserves. Most of these kiddies have just read the patchnotes and didn't even bother to log into TestLive to actually test out the changes first. But all in all.... Patch 1.05 is interesting and will get the game in the right direction when it's ready. Cheers |

This patch is huge and huge for the game and could help it turn a corner. They have to spend a long time tweaking the changes to some classes, as the patch is enormous. Note the word tweaking please before you whine at my use of the "enormous" word.

Not whining at all, I think we could all agree that 3 months on a test server for a patch is quite unusual - that is why I said it seemed a long time. -------------------------------- |

There are alot of armor sets that need to be fixed and what not from the intial stat overhaul. I won't go into details but there needs to be quite a bit of work fixing alot of equipment, some more powerful than it should be and some vice-versa. An example would be a piece of Tier one having better stats than its T2 counterpart. Tarantia Commons actually seems to be pretty smooth since it hit TL and although there are some minor fixes/adjustments that need to be done I doubt alot of resources will be used in this area. There have been huge changes to many classes, and as an Advocate I can assure you that is one area that will take some work to get right. With gear/stats actually effecting gameplay to a significant degree alot has been altered for damage mutlipliers etc. Mana/Stam regen has also changed a great deal. Alot of tweaks will have to take place, this patch changes so much, it needs a good amount of time on TL before its ready and working as intended. Lets not forget about the gem revamp, the fact all mobs will have to be adjusted to balance out with the itemization changes (especially raid encounters) a few new featurs, etc There are also things that are not included in the intial 1.05 TL patch that we are asking to get implimented before it goes live. This patch is going to have a major impact on the future of this game and Funcom should take the time to do it right. |

All I have read and heard suggest what you are saying is true, that is why I wanted to wait for 1.05 to re-up AoC. I suppose it will serve as a good measure as to how much things have changed if they do, in fact, take their time in getting 1.05 right before getting it out.
To my thinking good itemization is not just about items affecting gameplay but items being a way to customize your character further, at least to a certain degree. I understand fully that 1.05 changes seek to make items matter more whereas before they mattered hardly at all. BUt that being said, is there variety in the itemization that lets you tweak a toon in multiple directions rather than just buffing him in varying degrees? -------------------------------- |
