chronicles of spellborn is pretty inovative the skill deck alone is an art form you need to build the right skill deck to get anywhere. also the game isnt item driven based.. so means just cause you're a higher level  you're not invincable  you add stats to armour with sigils which make the drive so much more interesting. The general art style is a bit TIM BURTONish ...  well worth the investment in my opinion.

Tho I never played any of those, Most of my WoW guild are Ex-DAoC Players.
They said the PvP in DAoC is better then WoW, but WoW did the PvE right...
Basicly saying both games are good for there own reasons.
I played FFXI back 2003 before WoW hit, for 3 months, before quiting.
Why? It was nothing but a boring group grind game.
Sitting in one place grinding mobs with a group got boring fast.
Sure I like chatting with my Group mates, but the wasn't enough to keep me interested.
Finding groups weren't easy back then, that really turned me off to the non-solo aspect of the game.
On top of those there weren't any quests andI wanted to quest.
WoW gave me what I was looking for...
Quests, the able to solo if I couldn't find or didn't want to group, a less harsh Death Penalty. (that 10% xp lost was killer, if you couldn't get a rez)  
I wouldn't have played for WoW last 4 years, if I didn't find it fun.
Yes WoW is a lillte too easy to level in, but that's side effect of being a mass market game.
Beside Blizzard doesn't want to alienate newcomers, with that "I'm never going catch up" feeling.
Right now my biggest problem with WoW is it too gear based.
Just like the OP I'm looking for a replacement, but haven't found one.

@OP: LOTR is probably your best bet... I going to try it myself.

I tried Spellbrone, with was ok, didn't hold my interest very long.. you may like it tho.

I would second the Vanguard suggestions as it's one of the better ones out right now.  For you I would def. suggest LOTRO considering it's nothing but PvE centered so it's pretty solid on that aspect.  I am personally waiting to play MO when it comes out and maybe Fallen Earth but think the PvP will be similar to WoW (which is terrible and has no point).  Anyways, good luck, but if you like wow you would prolly like LOTRO the best.

In WOW's defense it is a good game. As plenty of content, I can PVP allies in Bg's or World PVP and my Shadow Priest used to own...But thier PVP is so unbalanced. But, I'm sorry drinking beer all night with guildies and running 25 man raids is a blast.

As you can see since I've tried ever major MMO that came out I was never content with wow. I hate the cartoony feel of wow. But I gave them all a chance. Including Tabula Rasa whic was stank material.

Warhammer's open quest is a cool concept and really I'm tired of PVE. All I want to do is level my char then PVP all day long. NPC AI gets so boring and I've seen just about every variation after running all major Raids 4 times a week for a year.

I'm just looking for a well done MMO. Doesn't have to be perfect, but WOW has made me sick of cartoon land.

Defenitely gonna try Lotra and Vanguard, but I think I'll just hang out with Warhammer in RVR combat until a Blizzards next gen MMO comes out....OR DIABLE 3

Nick, if you decide to try lotro, feel free to send me a pm in game as i am just starting too. I liked vanguard, and in fact, I would suggest giving it a try but just a fair warning, Im running on a pretty high end laptop and had some frames issues never the less. Yeah I will. I just bought a new Radeon 4870 x2 which is a beast. But, I'm having issue with that...SO it will be a few days until I get it all squared away,

My nvidia crapped on  me I hate playing on my laptop.

LOL can't be more intensive that Warhammer. Plus WOW fixed all my issues so I still play it off and on with RL buddies.

Another thing I would suggest is going back to DAoC, i know you said the graphics weren't good but you must not have played it for awhile.  I was playing last night and i honestly think the graphics are just as good if not better than warhammer.  So I think you should give that another go if you want there is a 14 day trial on their website.  Well good luck and hopefully MO will come ou this year and I'll have a game to play :).

Ha! Not quite. ALL classes can be effective at max level. Player skill has more to do with it for the most part. AOC is greatly improved from it's early days, and many changes are coming to the rpg system. I am having a blast on AOC. AOC also has PVE servers if full PVP isn't your thing.

It's a nice change of combat system from the Wow standard and stunning graphics.

The Chronicles of Spellborn is brilliant.  It's a sleeper, for sure, and it's bound to be underappreciated, but it's a work of genius in a lot of ways.  It may or may not be the sort of game you (or any particular person) likes, but it's a surprisingly excellent bit of game design.  I just subscribed to it after spending a couple of weeks in the free-to-play trial mode, and I definitely don't regret the choice.  It seems to just get better and better.  Give it a look!

If you think WOW is a good MMO, then no.

Otherwise, I'd recommend EVE.
