Loved Dark Age of Camelot, WAR was a total let down. Totally average game and I am being generous. I had heard that during that time of transition Mythic lost a few of their lead designers. Matt Frior or some such rings a bell. Since this is obviously where Mythic's talent WAS where did these guys go? What are they working on now?

MMORPG Character Monuments ...When its time for your character to take a well deserved rest... |
I still feel that WAR is about the same place where DAOC was 6 months after release. We do tend to look back at our old MMO lives in highly edited rosey colored snippets. BUt as I recall, 6 months after release, DAOC had 3 seperate frontier zones to fight, but everyone only used 1 (Emain). MOst often players just zerged the email milegates and camped them...or zerged all the way to the port in camp and prevented any enemy from leaving the fort. Where we died, and had to wait 10 minutes for the portal ceremony to come back.

Except that after 6 months in DAoC just a few were even 50, or had any realm rank or saw most of the world. The most boring aspect in WAR isn't just it's RvR, which is in T1 actually nice but this fastfood kind of PvM, RvR is more of a PvM thing than anything else. In DAoC you didn't start going for a golden sack in RvR, they didn't just raid some Battlegrounds to get their realmpoints....even if it was still all just a big laging zerg it still offered more than WAR any day dos.
In a way people argue as if Mythic never made a RvR centered game before, this is like Blizzard publish a game where everyone get the feeling there never had been a WoW, Diablo etc published before. In WAR there should be a bit more experince than just about 6 months but a RvR history over 8 years and you see basically nothing of this history in WAR. Somebody probalby deleted all this experinces... |

Matt Firor ended up at Bethesda. He was one of the better guys on the Mythic team. Whatever MMO Bethesda has cooking up is under him. That's a good sign in my opinion. Mythic is really not the same people who designed and created DAOC anymore... as you can probably tell by playing WAR. They lost really competent people like Firor and ended up with chuckleheads like Paul Barnett. |
