I''m hooked with a hack and slash game before like Flyff.. then my friends invited me to try this game, since it's my first time to play a turn based one I was board at first.. it seems that the grinding is just repetitive.. but when the I saw that the game had some special features like free league, auction, fishing and crafting.. it takes away my boredom... when I don't want to grind I always join free league... it's fun to compete to other players... where in you will be challenge on how to defeat them by using different strategies... I like the Mercenary system of this game where in you we be able to recruit upto 9 mercenaries including your Main character. You will try to control different jobs..

I find that each encounter is like a little game in itself and that seems to break up what, in most MMOs, would be a rather monotonous grind.

It starts off a little slow because you don't have many mercs to play around with. Gets more interesting once you lvl up a little and get a full group of mercs. Then you can start building a team that suits your style and how you like to play. It's something different that allows you to be unique.

Its a bit different as far as combat goes. Otherwise its very ordinary and I think its a very overrated game.

This is the top rated game because Ndoors stuffs the ballot boxes.  Nothing more, nothing less.  A rating system such as the one on this site will be captured by whoever cares the most about it.

As to whether you should play the game, it depends on what you like.  If you like "free to play"/item mall grinders and you like controlling an entire party in turn-based combat (often compared to various Final Fantasy games), then yes you should try it.  If you're put off by either of those, then no you shouldn't.

As for whether the game is "that good", in terms of polish, it's not remotely near the top games.  It is substantially different from most games on the market, though, so it's not just another WoW-clone.

Well if you love turn based. I can really tell you directly that Atlantica Online is the best turn based game out there. I've seen a lot of crappy turn based game that's why I had the perception that turn based games are not good but when I tried to play Atlantica Online, it gave me a whole definition of turn based games.

Oh please, like other companies don't try to stuff ballots as well?

Turbine just did that with some contest on some site (the Escapist?). I bet they did that here as well.

Heck, actually kind of funny, too, some people would sarcastically spam all the threads on the official LOTRO boards about the many, many recent technical problems it's had.

It's just World of Kung Fu with horrid turn based combat.

Atlantica is a VEEERY good game to relax. And PvP in Atlantica is VEEEERY relaxing. I would actually call it FvF - Formation versus Formation. Your main character is actually a part of 9 mercenary formation. And there are quite a few classes that you can add to your formation, customize it for AoE damage, stun, pure melee etc. I've started Atlantica about a month ago and it is pretty much captured all the time I've had for games. My formation mercs now are all around lvl 98 and game is very fun. It may not feel as fun if you just grind your way through without buying anything at the Item Mall.

If you like running around jumping and strafing WoW type of PvP you won't do well in Atlantica. You need to use brain there, thats why its called tactical battle system. More classes are being introduced on the way down. Recently 2 new classes for main character made their way in, now they are talking about 3 new types of mercs, battle system overhaul, new tactical system with the use of terrain etc.

Add to this beautiful graphics, specific cultures brought from almost every corner of the world, none-obligating game play and other nice features and you get yourself one of the best casual F2P game. Of course if you prefer to spend some hard earned dollar on Item Mall it becomes way opposite to F2P... If you're weak and can't stop while gambling, you shouldn't be buying anything on Item Mall. Because the whole concept of the game is a gamble. You "gamble" even with free items in the game. Enchanting - gamble, you may fail or you may succeed. Item Boxes - gamble, you get few items in the box and when you right click to open it it rolls the dice and gives you one out of some number of the items in it.

Item Mall contains all the premium items. Before, all the mounts came from Item Mall boxes and were very expensive on the market. Now with more people spending their money on Item Mall you can see many more mounts on the market but they still cost hundreds of millions and prices most likely won't change too much. Speaking about levels while at low levels 1 million is a LOT, around level 100 you can easily make few millions a day by just killing mobs.

Quests in Atlantica are mostly - 1. Kill some mobs, 2. Kill more mobs, 3. Craft something, 4. Kill Some more mobs, 5. Kill the boss.
If you take out unique battle system and mercenaries, Atlantica is not much different from other Asian f2p games. But these 2 features are so unique that it makes you addicted for the first 70 levels at least. Plus Free League - PvP type of formation versus formation battle kinda keeps you on your toes and gives you some incentive to move on. Rewards in Fl are good, adrenaline rush is there alright. Overall is a great game. Same grind as in other f2p games but a lot of different features that make Atlantica one of a kind.

And its same as in Las Vegas. While people like to gamble Atlantica will live and expand. If you don't mind spending 50$ - 100$ a month ( assuming you work and have a bit of extra money for entertainment) you can be pretty much satisfied. As on a regular basis they add new items to Item Mall like clothes and mounts for now are the most popular on Item Mall.

And your opinion really sucks, lol. Shows right out how much you played or even know about this game.

You really only make my point for me.  Ratings on a site where anyone can vote as often as he likes are a measure of who cares the most, not of broad popular opinion.  If Ndoors weren't the company most committed to stuffing the ballot boxes here, then some other company would be, or perhaps a group of fanboys for some game.  Being rated #1 in that case wouldn't be the slighest bit more meaningful.

I found the game to be kind of boring. It did have some cool features, just not my cup of tea. As others have said on this post, just download it and try it - nothing to lose.

I tried the demo awhile ago.

I found the game to be:

1)  Sophomoric
2)  Lacking in ANY kind of story.
3)  Full of delivery/kill quests.
4)  Poorly written.  I understand it's an Asian developed game, but how hard can it be to hire a decent translator?  Seriously.
5)  The quest assist is pretty heavy handed.  When an mmo gets to the point where you can click a button and the character automatically runs/ports to the next quest objective while you go and do something else is when it's time to hang it up and quit mmos.

I have no idea why this game is top rated here other than ballot box stuffing.

Since when MMORPG.COM rates games based on those points? Hahaha. Sorry, its just funny. Your have valid points there. Its all there. Story in Atlantica is pretty weak. Some Oricharukon Device is changing the existance, whatever lol. Quests totally agree, nothing interesting if you read them.

What I think makes this game fun is:

1. Item Mall Items (gambling addiction relief for some people)
2. Very unique tactical combat system
3. Mercenary system
4. Huge amount of items in the game
5. Complex crafting
6. Free League
7. Town betting
8. Championships

Or you can make it all like this:

1. Gambling
2. Unique tactical combat system
3. Unique mercenary system
4. Gambling
5. Grind
6. Adrenaline rush
7. Intrigues and Grief
8. Adrenaline Rush

Add all the ingridients together, some salt and water and you end up with some pretty delicious soup. :D

What I can tell you for sure - the driving force of Atlantica is gambling and Free League. I know people who spent thousands of dollars in this game, got to Division 1, Ladder in Free League and then stopped playing. Competition and gambling, thats what drives people in Atlantica. Kids grow up make money but they are still the same competitive. So games like this will always be popular. Also Atlantica is one of the best free to play games. It was nominated best of year 2008 in China and still holds several top places.

Yeah right but of course the game needs to improve more... like the pop up announcement that is so annoyiing, the KJ system that players can abuse, and hope the mount can be use during the battle.

You can’t ever win if you’re always on the defensive, to win, you have to attack.
