Just an odd question here, but being in love with storylines, one I needed to ask. What is the minimum recommended level for each of the expansions' storylines? For example, I know I'm not starting Chains at L10. And I mean more then the required level, the recommended level. Kinda like..."You should start the Zilart arc around level 'x', Wings around level 'y'", etc. Story, for me, is everything. I know I can start FF XI's main arc right away with the Zehrun Report or such...I just wanted to know when I could branch off into the x-pack arcs. Hope this makes a lick of sense. Thanks, -Xerek |

Level 30 is the cap for the beginning CoP missions so i'd start somewhere around 30. Give or take 2-3 levels. Treasures dont start until 75 as it'll make it a ton easier Wings Same thing as Treasures. EVE - Sharvala |

Ish, so Promathia is the only one I'm starting until I get to near endgame? Alright, so basically focus on the main until 25-30ish, when I can run the main and Promathia. Roll until 65ish and start Zilart, get to 75 (the cap?), and run Treasures and Wings? Was hoping the x-packs were more then just endgame. Seems like endgame gets a lot already (Dynamis, etc.) The farthest I ever got was L25, pre-Promathia. Was just hoping for some meat in the mid-range. Thank you, now I can plan accordingly! -Xerek |

Well to Finish any mission set you'll pretty much need to be 75 or close to it unless you just get someone to run you through the missions but theres no fun in that. The first few missions on each expansion are fairly easy but you cant even start Zilart until you get past Mission 5-2 of the main storyline. EVE - Sharvala |

^ This. What I'd like to add though, is that you should try and do rank/Promathia missions at the appropriate levels right away, instead of skipping them for later. Basically, try to finish all of the rank 1 missions by at least level 10. Then try to finish all of the rank 2 missions by 20, rank 3 at 30, and so on. As for the Promathia missions, they are almost all level capped, until the last few missions. Try to do the level capped missions when you are at the specific cap. For example, the first capped Promathia mission starts at a cap of level 30. So once you get to level 30, try to finish all of the 30-capped Promathia missions before you move on. Then once you get to the 40 cap missions, level up to 40, and do the 40 cap missions. So on and so forth. It makes things a whole lot easier if you take the time out to do the missions every so often instead of leveling up, whenever they can be done, instead of just cramming them all in later. Trust me on this, if you do the latter you'll hate yourself for it. I did that on my first character, and getting through all of the Promathia missions was hell because of it lol. I can speak from personal experience that the above method works great, though. I was able to obtain both the Sky and Sea end-game areas by level 60 on my second character (level 60 was the highest level job I had on my second character). It also allowed me to not have to worry about carrying around different sets of armor/weapons for different level caps. It also saves you a whole lot of gil, not having to worry about buying different sets of armor/weapons for different caps.

Also, you can always replay every cut scene in the game. So don't worry about not remembering what's going on. You just have to either go to the Goblin Footprints in areas outside of a town, or the replay BRD's in town in whatever zone the cut scenes took place.

Sounds good. I actually prefer storyline, so I'd prefer to start the arcs instead of just grinding away. Squeenix can usually pump out some good storylines, and I'd like to get them sooner rather then later. Thanks again, -Xerek |

Zilart is special. You can't start Zilart until you are done your Shadow Lord fight. Once 5-2 is done then you can start Zilart. More than likely (unless you have friends to help out) you will need to be lvl 50+ to get past the rank 5 missions. Chains you can get your first CSs at lvl 1, but probably not until 20+ when you start to exp on Qufim Island and you accidenly set it off when zoning a skeleton (it will happen). Then of course 30+ for the first real missions. Treasures you can also start at lvl 1, but realisitically you will probably be at least 20+ before you get to Aht Urgah then if you have a BLM buddy who can get you to the staging points you will be able to get through mission 2 and get your Mog Locker. Wings is really the same as the other two. Start immediately, but need to wait til 20+ when you are naturally heading towards Jeuno. As long as you have sneak and invis you can get up to mision 3 with little problem if you buy them items you need off the AH. I can't tell you if you have a level cap to start prophecies, but the first missions you need to be about 30+ to safely do. |

I think most everyone is giving great advise on this topic. I know it sounds daunting when people say that you'll want to wait to start any of the expansion storylines besids CoP until endgame but it's probably the best way to go. I'll break it down pack by pack with my opinion and experiences. Zilart is awesome but like many have mentioned you can't start zilart until you finish 5-2. Then I would say if you have some friends or a large group of people go ahead and try out some of the first missions as soon as you can. I wouldn't wait on this like many have said. I had sky access as level 64 at that's more then halfway done if I remember correctly. Back then you needed sky access to level 70-75 that has changed. So it is definetely do-able I know many that have done it. When it comes to CoP start it as soon as you can which is level 30. See if you can get the missions and content done while leveling but this can be hard to do. CoP is a unique expansion with all it's level caps and was designed to provide content for all levels of players and to be finished when you're level 75. ToAU the first bunch of missions is just running here and there so if you love storyling like I do get on that part as soon as you have access to the ToAU areas. Then I would say the first fight in the cemetary you will need to be higher level or grab a few friends to help. I'd say be well into your 60s by then almost 70. With WoTG a lot of this starts out as running around so get on that if you wan. I don't have a whole lot of experience with this expansion though because I had to leave the game for shortly after it came out. It's actually the only one I haven't finished. So to be competely honest I don't know what a good starting level for this is but campaign isn't really viable until 70+ i'd say unless you're a support class. |
