I have not yet played WAR, but would rather see it continue to stay running rather then fail and close down. Every game helps to add competition for the other developers, and will cause everyone to improve due to the competition. Sadly those that are not able to improve will close, but they might have at least caused other devs to improve their games. Every improvement will help the genre in the long run. Without these small improvements things will grow stale and all will come to an end.

This game is no where near the point to be considered a failure if anyone is insinuating that. It is actually somewhat successful in it's own right. It's got a few innovative ideas that other MMOs, in this or the next generation, will copy and become MMO standards such as Open Parties, PQs, etc. I enjoy the game from a creative standpoint but much more from a "fun-factor" standpoint. It's just fun. In my opinion, it does suffer from being shallow in most other aspect besides RvR, though they've made it no secret that RvR is their main focus. A couple of years into the future, I think they'll expand it plenty and we'll look back at it as one of the best MMOs.

Oh and as for the nay sayers who really haven't tried it, your opinion really isn't validated. And for the people who complain about "balancing" issues... well that's just a tired one-side argument because at your argument's core, you're really just whining that someone has killed you. Ugh... whiners.

It's far from uber lol, but I really don't think its any worse than any other of the trivial games that are out there.  What, op, do you think is a good mmo that is currently out there or on its way? :)

Terrible thread. There is no reason to make a petition to close down Warhammer. Hey, if you dislike, hate, loathe a game, that is one thing. You can rip on it all you want. But some people out there may enjoy it.

The Petition begged the question and offered four alternatives along a range. If you read the title of the thread carefully it ends with a "?" which also begs the question "should we or shouldn't we". It is an open question.

Ah! I see! Well, Obviously this post was very much needed. This entire thread is nothing but a troll post by you, to get you some sort of intrawebs status hun.  Some sort of petition or poll on mmorpg.com forums is not going to have any effect on the amount of money Mythic is making on the game.  Sadly, I bit on your troll because I needed to point out how silly and pointless the post was.

I have to say I really dislike trollers who post things such as this for attention, then try to slam people for pointing out how bad it is. In future posts/threads Keridwan, please put some forethought into what you are posting and why instead of this. <3<3<3 Thanks hun, that's a good little boy <3.  I do so enjoy helping young boys try to gain some knowledge of posting etiquette.

But anyways, to get past your terrible trolling attempt. Mythic is making money.  It may not be a lot, but it seems to be covering the continuation of the game.  If it is not, again, there is no point to you pleading for attention by creating a thread that would upset people who play the game.  I personally think the only fun part of the game, was the first 10 or so levels, since you can PvP , after that, it is pretty terrible.  You're post had one point, saying other was is proven otherwise by the tone of your post :(.  Ah yes, and if you do care to try to troll back, by all means. I visit this forum infrequient enough that your Trolling/Poster/Intrawebs status will not dimish since I won't post to your reply.

IMO Warhammer is one of most boring MMO's I've played.  Great to begin with but over time progresses to an endless numb skulling keep grind with lacklustre PvE as a side attraction. Would I like to see the game closed down, my answer is no.  People are paying their subs and enjoying the game.

No, there are some people who still play Warhammer and like it, so there is no need for a petition. I am not one of them but there are enough. I'd hate to see people with nothing to play and idle time on their hands. No need for a forced closure.

Based on Mythic's track record as a company with IP MMOs, Warhammer will be just as dead as Abraham Lincoln within a year from now (Godzilla Online, Aliens Online, Independence Day Online, Starship Troopers Battlespace). They seem to have a way of giving IPs a "magic touch" and rendering them mortal. Then those games go crawl away and die.

Give it at least 1 year guys, is not that bad. I know it was a total letdown for A LOT of ppl. including me, but lets wait and see what are they gonna do with the game.

Is this a troll topic/poll? The only "no" option basically requires people to come across as a die-hard fanboi, so I guess it is.

I dont think Mythic will ever be able to fix this game. Not without completely changing it. And thats not the best move...

NGE anyone ? ....

But the game is still fun to a group of people. And I dont think it should be cancelled.

Thats just bad

My thoughts exactly, why couldn't the OP just put in the option "No the game should not be cancelled"

Exactly... Whether WAR lives or dies will be decided by the consumers and their subscription dollars. No petition will bring it down or any game for that matter. Besides, doesn't WAR have a small but very dedicated fanbase? That is all it has taken to keep SWG alive for years. The only thing that will bring WAR down at this point is if everyone quits the game and goes elsewhere for their MMO fix.

I'd rather "petition" to start eugenics, so we won't have to worry so much about people like the OP. I could start naming off worse MMOs than warhammer this morning and probably not finish until several weeks from now and still not be sure I'd named them all, 90% of which are still around.

I realize that there are people who don't like it, but they still have 250k-300k people that play it...that's quite enought to keep the game open.

They also have EA behind them with the $$$

I don't EVER like to see games close. Whether they were good OR bad, because you know that there will still be one person out there that is totally in love with the game.

Tis an ill wind that blows no minds.

Congratulations. I see you have five or six people who agree with you. You should submit this massive list of signatures to Mythic so they can close the game down and make their customers happy.  It doesn't matter that they have a quarter of a million players - if half a dozen non-subscribers agreed to some Internet "petition," the company has to obey.

Why would you want the game to close down? If you don't like it don't play....

Even if i dont care for WAR, i would never be so ignorant to ask for it to close down. I respect the people playing WAR....or every other MMO for that matter.

I wonder how many people have tried to pull Keridwan on these forums via sneaky pms or in her chosen games.

I wouldn't pick out WAR in particular but I *am* at the point where I'd sign any petition to close down any MMO that does not reach the release date in a *seriously* bug free state (as far as humanly possible anyway). Something we'd expect from most of the rest of the gaming industry as well.

Its amazing how these infantile posts get from a small brain through a keyboard.

Do you honestly think a game that has probably taken over 5 years to develop from concept, is one of the founding revenue pillars for a company, employs so many people in full time employment and has what seems to be a healthy subscriber base, should close down so soon?

Why?

What possible reason is there for them just shutting up shop, putting lots of hard working people out of work - what could justify that?

If your only argument is that no MMo should be released when bugs prevail or only if the dev can 100% guarentee that the hype meets the product in every way - go back to single player console games. Many players like to be part of betas and the development journey, we like the way these games evolve and change over time. Just do us all a favour and go elsewhere.

Yap, they are using the same engine as DAOC:  darksentinelsofwar.wordpress.com/2007/10/09/warhammer-online-built-using-gamebryo-element/  ,    www.emergent.net/en/Clients--Titles/MMOG/Warhammer-Online-Age-of-Reckoning/

But i wonder why this would cause the problem? Seeing that by now they should be very well verse with this engine?

Just because it is Gamebryo Element does not mean it had the same programmers and Gamebryo Element is not the same as it was back in 1999. I already stated the cause because I just spent a couple days working through a very similar problem. The timing cycle is either on the client side or starting before the calculations a carried out so the timing gets out of sync and causes all kinds of weird stuff. including the animations to get out of sync.

vnboards.ign.com/warhammer_online_age_of_reckoning_general_board/b22997/110505193/p1

This thread sheds some light on the unresponsiveness of the server and the cause of the lag.  It also highlights the cheap shortcut and deceptive approach mythic took to "fixing" this.

-- Here we use the new Mythic seconds, fool the user that a second is longer than a real second (averaging in latency)

There is supposed to be a fix on the public test server, but this is a problem that should not have been live this long. It is a game breaker.

Dispite it has got a lot less 'to do' content in it, this topic hardly need discussing, even 'the great' WoW practically gutted itself with TBC and bounced back with Wrath.. A few years ago you could have said the same about EVE (which btw took 3 years to become somewhat accessable/playable for 'joe avg'), CoH/V, EQ2, FFXI and then theres Vanguard thats made quite a good comeback.

Just because WAR dissapointed a lot of players from hyped expections, doesn't mean the game failed and needs shutting down, it's just going to be a while before it meets those expections more then 6 months, heck keeping on avg 300k when it's raining MMOs is still good.

WAR is just another victim of bloated expectations and armchair devs.. Which these days in MMO circles theres far too many of, and I very much dought it'll be the last.

Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!

If this part was aimed at me then you seem to be mistaken. Nowhere did I say the game should live up to the prehype etc. I do however expect the software I buy on the shelf to be working properly. That they change the game after that with possible bugs etc that's one thing but when the thing goes on the shelves the content they have should be working properly and not go under some "well a MMO is always ever changing" coverup.

At least in that way we can expect a decent base game that developers can build on rather than a crapshoot for which we can only hope they actually are able to fix it in the short/long term and see them *try* to build on that broken foundation.

Also, Mythic didn't start on war till May 2005 so it's not 5+ years.Especially if you consider their original intent was to release a year earlier.

Well with them really improving casting lag, proposing an RvR token system, further encouraging oRvR, diversifying Keeps a bit (second ramp is already confirmed, but not in 1.2.1), etc., you can bitch and cry all you want. Unless you don't like the core mechanics of the game (waaaah I dun liek PVPz), you will probably start seeing some nice changes. WAR is going to be far from closing down.

Did I mention some balance nerfs to AoE damage? CC in T4 is still a rampant problem though. Will see what Mythic does about that. But, hey, maybe once they cut AoE down to size, you don't have to die in 2 seconds anymore when you're rooted/stunned/disabled/knocked down.
