A rather interesting read from a Neilsen blogger which touches on world of warcraft players in North America. According to this there were 1.8 million unique North American players that logged in last month. It looks like the most players are over 25 years old and there is a surprising number of female gamers. Over 1.1 million of the 1.8 million fall into the 25 to 54 age range with over 400k of those being women. It looks like the 55+ age range is the lions share of the remaining 700k users according to the minutes played.

Of course, we always knew that. It is the MMORPG HATERS that can't handle SOE getting their asses handed to them by a grossly superior game that post drivil here about what age the players of WoW are. The players I have met in all but two cases were MUCH nicer than the idiots I met in EQ were. I seldom met anyone helpful or remotely nice in EQ. Most were swindlers and liars, and would whine like mad unless they got their precious way. The raiders in EQ were the worst scum with spawns arriving every seven days and no instancing: SOE encouraged and did everything they could to encourage hateful behavior. |

EQ was no bed of roses, however, WoW isn't much better IMO.. I've been around for 4 years and have seen some of the most ugliest conduct by people yet in any game.. I've seen guild bank robbers, I've seen people lie, steal and cheat others, then transfer to a new server.. etc etc.... THIS all being done by ADULTS.. 90% of all so called raiding guilds on 2 servers I've played on are run by adults and have the worst attitude of any player.. I refuse to join such guilds and I would NEVER consider meeting ANY of them in real life.

MMORPG Character Monuments ...When its time for your character to take a well deserved rest... |
I'll be honest, I didnt know neilsen did anything with online games/entertainment. I am not surprised at the median age is 25. HOnestly, that seems a bit low to me. |

Make sense to me.... most people I know (and there is a lot) that plays wow are at least 25 or older. So... is it full of kids or full of immature adults? lol... Anyways, i'm having fun playing it. -Read my thoughts on gaming: |

Well, most "bored" kids use forums.... and the older players are just far less represented on forums. This study is indeed a BIG surprise for the game designers who are targetting subs of "Wow players". :))) Now we know why AoC and War failed - when viewing these stats - ---> these people are not bored :) And forums give a complete different image from the REAL mmorpg players (as I always have stated).

I'm somewhat surprised, but not entirely. I think the bigger issue with the WoW players is the age they act, not the age they are, though. Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |
