"Femmes Fatales - The Power of the Feminine in the Art of MMO" |
The concept of TSW is entirely different from AoC. It is unfair to compare them as a FunCom product at this stage. Similarly it is unrealistic to get hyped up about TSW possibilities. All I can say is please, please, please do NOT make a TSW that is full of instants. That for me was the most miserable aspect of AoC. It never felt like a seamless gaming experience like LoTR, Lineage2 or DAoC.
Lets just quietly keep our fingers crossed for TSW. The fact it deals with modern day interface between banal everyday life and some hidden and dark alterity is interesting in its own right. So in terms of imagination the developers have it right. |

Myself I find it funny how people mention AoC on a TSW forum. What's the connection? Just because Funcom provided money for both? The teams are completely different! Let me illustrate it using cinema as an example.. New Line Cinema finansed both The Lord of the Rings and The Golden Compass... can someone tell me the difference between them? Did they have anything in common? No they did not. By the looks of it AoC was Funcom's golden compass, and TSW will be LOTR in terms of quality... after all the guy behind it is the guy who created The Longest Journey and Dreamfall, Ragnar Tornquist. And most people who compare it to AoC also fail to notice that AoC, while having some new features like free combat, was, all in all, just another medieval fantasy.. thus having to compete with WoW, LOTRO, Warhammer and countless other medieval fantasy MMO's.. so who will TSW compete with actually? What's the name of the big contemporary MMO that dominates the market currently? Can't remember the name? Because there is none. At least none of TSW calliber. It might become a really huge hit since people are bored of fantasy... |

Horror MMORPG? Why? Becouse horror movies and games like Resident Evil 5 are popular? What a utopic concept. I personally not gonna be playing this crap. |

One was unpleasently surprised that this game will be focusing on horror theme. When one watched a video clip #1 they didn't mention a single word about focusing on a fantasy horror theme. Other than that it sounded pretty interesting. Quite unique from what is already there. No grinding, no levels, fun... Then one finds out that its gonna be something like "Resident Evil" online. Daaaaamn. Spoiled the whole thing for one. Game forums is a good place to express one's opinions. Unless of course some defensive person comes and starts to judge one's opinions. |

Yes for the love of God we wouldnt want anything different. Just give us another fantasy based MMO like the hundreds that have gone before. This one feels that anything different would be a step in the right direction. I enjoy the fantasy genre, i have enjoyed it for the last ten years, but its becoming hard to tell the difference of one game from the other. Dont like horror games? Play a sci fi mmo. Dont like sci fi? Well maybe one can find a fantasy game, i here there are a few around. |

I'm glad that they're going to be using the AoC engine. Instead of starting from scratch, like they did with AoC, they're using a now proven engine to run thier game. AoC is actually a great game if you get into the genre and leave previous experience (i.e. launch) out of it. The fact that they're using this engine ensures that there won't be the same problems that AoC had at launch, as 90% of those problems (maybe more) have been fixed. |

That said... Good news is... We've not seen the last of Stark and Arcadia yet (and hopefully not April Ryan, either.. despite circumstances at the end of Dreamfall...) If there's one person in all of Funcom I would place my money on to turn out a solid game.. It's him. |
One highly doubts that this game will be so much different. From rats and goblins to dead people? Hmm, what a grand transition. We simply need more of this crap in our life. one will be sarcastic now: There are so very very few horror movies and horror games, that god damn we just need a horror MMORPG now. Please, make even more horror movies, Hollywood! Its simply not enough to have a new one coming out every month. Now we need a horror MMORPG so we can shoot dead people and be satisfied in that genre too. That type of game will teach our children even more important things. We need more of mind dumbing games, please, MORE! We shot aliens and commies, we've enjoyed cutting of the limbs from zombies and blood splattering on the walls, brains on our faces.. WEEE COOOOOOL. Please make us an online game now that will let us shoot zombies too. Cause that's just exactly what our kids need today. one is done being sarcastic. |

Originally posted by reanor Your sarcasm just makes you look ignorant. Look around you, how many games have broken from the Orc and Elves system? You are comparing an MMO with horror elements to a single player horror themed game. Kind of an apples and oranges situation don't you think? It's a Jeep thing. . .

In my case I'm a big fan of horror games, my favorite serie being Silent Hill. Yeah, I love creepy, disturbing, supernatural stuff and I've been reading Stephen King and other similar writers since I'm a kid, and I started reading at age 4 so at 12 I was starting to read adult books. Let's not forget my goth period during my teenage time. I've been dying to play a MMO like The Secret World since I started playing a MMO years ago. I've been checking TSW since summer 2007 and now that we have more informations on it, I'm salivating because my hunger for something like this will be satisfied at some point when it comes out. Lovecraft fans have been on the forums too for quite some time as well waiting for the game. |

On the bright side if this game sucks we can still look forward to Aion and The Old Republic. I dont think this game will suck, funcom just cant fuck up the third time. |

Why should we not consider 'funcom' when considering TSW? The problems with AOC went WAY above the development team. The combat was decent, the graphics and music are amazing.. the part that AOC failed completely at were the top level deceit and marketing decisions. 1. They purposefully limited the beta to tortage, highlighting the only part of the game that was finished. The told beta testers that the rest of the game was just as polished, but they wanted to hide some of the mystery of the game. 2. They assured us that seiging was functioning well in their closed beta. (meanwhile they were telling the closed beta players that siegiing would be fixed at launch.. it wasn't). They hyped the pvp as the best thing ever, but for 5 months after launch, there was no pvp system at all in place. 3. They waited until a day before launch to say dx10 wasn't going to make it at launch. At the time they made it sound like it was a last second decision. The fact is, 1 year after launch they still haven't added dx10 to the live game... so how close was it really at launch? the answer.. not very. So why did they wait until less than 24hrs til launch (after pre-orders) to tell people there wouldn't be dx10? 4. Paid shills or just outright buying 'fans'. On this gamesite, they actually paid someone to go to Norway and meet the devs. That person then ended up on this site as a correspondent and hyped the game beyond belief... pretty much dominating every thread as a full-time job before launch. Shouting down all criticism from beta testers and defending the terrible launch and every dev decision. There is not another forum poster on this entire site that has been so persistent and prolific at defending a single game. Funcom as a company is at fault for AOC.. the actual devs did a decent job with combat and graphics. It is Funcom that is going to be telling you that 'the game is amazing' and it is funcom that is going to be paying people to post non-stop on these forums hyping every feature of the game. It is funcom that is going to launch the game broken, then spend months denying anything is wrong... same as they did with their only 2 mmorpgs |

I'm not sure. Maybe because there are monsters. I thought that was kind of universal. I've found a handful of games that don't have something that looks like a zombie in them. If that's all "One" plays his gaming options must be slim. |

I for one is looking forward to trying out this game.
To early to say wether it will be the next fix that so many mmo-players seem to be craving for these days, but it sure looks like it has potential. As we gamers keep experiencing, what makes for a good game is sometimes hard to pin down. After half a decade of WoW domination with clones and promises of WoW-killers being presented continuosly. If you check the game list on this site you'll find that the large majority is within the fantasy genre, but if you filter by rating/hype you will only find 7 fantasy games among the top 20. It's not just good graphics or large amounts of end-game content, but I think most will agree that immersion plays an important role.
I hope this game will do just that, immerse me. Also I like the idea of a contemporary setting. Definitely something out of the ordinary for mmorpg's. |

the problem with aoc wasnt the concept it was the company delivering it. therefore expect the same problems with TSW as with AO and AoC Patches that break more than they fix. {Mod Edit} |

Why to people seem to labor under the misconception that a game developement company uses the same team to create every game? Yes AoC was made by FunCom. Yes AoC had a bad release. That doesn't mean that any and every game they ever create going forward will be cast of the same template.
MMO's all share the same issues with patches. Every company releases patches that fix one thing but break another. It's an unavoidable problem caused by the constantly evolving world that exists in any MMO. |
