Now I have not played any of the Sci-Fi games except for Eve-Online, and I got really board with that one, and I quit after a few months because of some of their stupid rules, but from what I have seen, looking for a new Sci-Fi game to play, none of them let you leave your ship and do missions and or quests on planets. Don't get me wrong, I love the to be able to fly around on a ship and do all the stuff JG:E has, but I also want to be able to leave the ship from time to time and actually do something on the ground, on a planet, or moon. You take the time to design your toon from head to toe, but all you actually get to see is a headshot of your avatar, in the cockpit of your ship.

Nope, you wont be able to leave your ship.

So far the only game that will allow you to leave your ship and explore planets and what not on foot is going to be Star Trek online.

there was a f2p game.. I dont now if its still around called Space cowboys... It allowed you to get out of your ship but you had to be at at station.

there used to be a game called earth and Beyond which allowed you to dock at stations and run around but you couldn't go to the surface of the planets and run around. you had to stay in your ship. But you were able to go to the surfaces of some of the planets and moons in your ship.

I was hoping that wasnt the case of you can only stay inside your ship. This means this game will get boring quick cause what other then going around shooting inside a ship can you do? This is one reason why I didnt like EVE, this and the fact its initial tutorial lasts about 5 years.

At least now I know better then to waste my time on this one.

You could leave your ship in Earth and Beyond, go on stations like Friendship-7 and see hundreds of players walking around the stations to by ship equipment, meet with agents for missions, go on the dance floors and stuff...one of the better parts of the game and should be included in all space RPG's imo.

I can see why they dont allow it.  They would basically need to make 2 games.  One for space and one for on foot.  Oh well different stuff for different people.

Star Quest Online allows you to walk out of your ship, some ships need crew to operate because of their size.

It would be nice to have a lounge type are like Earth in Beyond but its really not necessary and I would agree they would have to make two different style games. I would wait for Blackstar or STO because they will offer this.

It is possible to do in a single game, though.  Star Wars galaxies is a good example.  I hate Star Wars Galaxies, but it's still a good example lol.

No it is a MMO there is no single player component to it. But that doesn't stop you from just playing solo in the game.

Same as Eve, you stay on your ship.

Star Wars Galaxies is possible to walk inside the ship, have multi players ship (1 person in gun turret, 2nd in other gun turret, 3rd at the helm, others inside repairing the ship or just having fun,..), and of course leave the ship and do land quests. But that game is suxxzor.

I would have to try the trial period myself but graphics are a bit dated but who knows the gameplay could be great I will be adding this link to my website.

How long could it possibly take to design space stations and avatars?  I don't need a single player game  on foot, but for fuck's sake, give us some place to stretch our legs, grab a drink, and talk to people.

Agreed, they should have cities / player hubs where you can just walk around, buy equipment and talk to people. Being stuck in the cockpit of a spaceship for the entire game just seems weird.

Played and enjoyed: EQ1, DAoC, WoW

Because devs have learned that releasing games with just basic features (not only JGE) is good enough anyway.

So why bother with "fluff"?

Cue in stream of fanbois confirming this attitude.

Planets? not needed...

avatars? blasphemy!

ship customisation? meh!

etc...

Playing: Aion, Failed Earth
Waiting: Final Fantasy XIV, JGE
If a game has all the features of WoW, its nothing but a WoW clone, but if it lacks any of them, its incomplete.

EVE has no avatar views, and is doing quite well. I wouldn't mind seeing this type of interaction in only the biggest stations but who knows maybe it could possibly be an option. But they should really concentrate on gameplay and immersion to make this successful because you don't have too many social areas.

EVE won't have avatars till ambulation expasion. JGE is not a bad game for a arcade shooter, just misses out on a lot that a mmo could bring.

No one has played JGE yet so we'll see what they bring to the table but I have to admit I wouldn't mind them implimenting some of the things they did in EVE because I think they did it right. EVE would be perfect for me if they had more of a twitch style combat system.

Well, if Eve is any indication, doing it properly can take quite a while...

I give it to CCP they have been giving EVE some great support and all content addons have been free the way it should be.
